I agree, seem's like we are now on the eve of Destruction in 2021... lets hope for the best but be prepared for the worst... I lived a good and decent life, just hope you all will also...
Too true, I am a young guy, and often I get frustrated with my peers. Too many of them are unaware or couldn't care less about what goes on beyond their little bubble. They don't want you to say anything of importance that makes them uncomfortable. They'll stay in bliss until reality comes knocking...thats when they'll take to picketing.
Great song! To think that this song was actually a demo - it was not even finished and Barry was surprised it was released. I guess there were people who knew the song was great as it was. There is a raw quality to the song, plus his anger in frustration in his voice really makes this song stand out. It's true that was his only solo hit, though he did make the top 20 with the New Christy Minstrels on "Green Green".
I wish composers and singers would write and perform songs like this "these days". Where were the musicians and performers to protest the Bush Wars? Perhaps they would have made a difference.
So many young men shipped of to an unknown future. Fighting for your country hell !! You were fighting for your life. Know one should have to have lived that unless they chose to themselfs. That part of history is not to be forgoten.
This song along with "Satisfaction" were where rock 'n' roll lost its innocence. "Eve of Destruction" is sadly as relevant in 2016 as it was in 1965. Scary!
I would come home from a late night at the bowling alley or out on the town. As a teenager in the 70s, it struck a cord. I'm glad it was spiritually inspired.
Only since I didn't see another comment, I especially like the "18" sticker to the left of the 45 guide hole. Very original early '70 piece of history. These numbers came with 45 carry cases and were used to mark where you put it back in the case. Remember them well.
Got my draft notice when this song was on the AM radio...The draft would scare the sh**T out of todays Face Book robots....Not much has changed since '65....
great video! but in the description Barry was far from a one hit wonder he was the lead singer for the New Christy Minstrels for a good five years and they regularly cracked the hot 100 and topped album sales and easy listening charts
Listening to this record on February 20, 2022. Ukraine is in danger of getting attacked by Russia, and COVID-19 is still killing and making thousands sick. This song reads like todays newspaper headlines.
Hate to say this, but things are 10 thousand orders of magnitude worse than in Feb, and getting worse by the day! And, yes, this song is MORE relevant, and IMHO, MORE modern, than even then! This should be required listening to in schools. I am serious!!
For so many, this song signalled when what folks call "The Sixties" really began. It helped to open the door to a new way of thinking. Change was brewing of course, for some time, but this song and its popularity signalled something big was beginning to happen.
You had to be careful with ABC & Dunhill 45s. I don't think they had strictest quality control. I know I have a couple myself that, right off the store shelves and brand new, were loaded with significant surface noise.
Great song and in it's proper format. None of that fake stereo crap for me! Give me mono every time. Do you have the answer record by The Spokesmen called The Dawn of Correction? Nice little song there as well. It was on Decca.
@frankscan65 My take on the matter...If it's from the '60s then it's public domain. I know that's probably not true, but the music of the '60s is so great that it SHOULD be public domain.
hey hey this tune was suppost to send out a message to end the war, but to many pig headed politions wanted the publicity that the war brought out, so they could keep debating why we should not be there!! i used to hate it when i'd be at a bar sucking down a cold beer, then all the sudden 1 man or another would approach me and say yeah, well you have never been there so you have no clue as to what happened, i hated those doomsdayers, if i could have gone i would have, i was way to young back then, and yes i registered as a objectivist and thatz it!! I FUCKING HATE WAR!!
It's almost scary how much this song still applies to the world today.
Even more today with North Korea!!
even more today with Venezuela
today still. although not quite as much as it did when it was released.
Even more today
I agree, seem's like we are now on the eve of Destruction in 2021... lets hope for the best but be prepared for the worst... I lived a good and decent life, just hope you all will also...
One greatest protest song of the sixties ever!
Great song. i love the Original Mono mix. The Mono mix es are more powerful then any stereo mixes.

I always loved this song by him. Had this on a 45rpm. What a powerful record this is.

it got a lot of people thinking when it came out .i was one of them
I still love this song--it's so powerful.
Just as relevant right now than ever.
Not so much now "Hopefully"
it's relevant ^
So make it reflect that. Quinell. Take a look around you. Boy.
I wish composers and singers would write and perform songs like this "these days".
Where were the musicians and performers to protest the Bush Wars? Perhaps they would have made a difference.
"The Times They Are A-Changin'" - "Live For TODAY" - "Be Here Now"
The big difference between Vietnam and the Bush wars is the lack of a draft during the later wars.
The 60's began with this record for me.
history coming around again
Drove fear right out of some of us never think going to make back alive easier to do the hard jobs put on our plate as military serviceman !...
Relevant today, great song

This is one of the songs that sound better in mono rather than stereo 👍 good job!

The story of life - the best we can achieve is BALANCE
Hold my beer. .......It's now 2023.
@@mishmash1259Yes, it is 2023. My post is from 2016.
I would come home from a late night at the bowling alley or out on the town. As a teenager in the 70s, it struck a cord. I'm glad it was spiritually inspired.

The way things are going maybe they should re release this
I wish I had another record player again I haven't had one in a long time not since my mom bought me and my brother one when we were young
This was Barry McGuire's only solo hit after he left the New Christy Minstrels. He was the lead vocalist on their biggest hit "Green, Green".
Heavens to Betsy, I have this 45, and many others on vinyl. I am giving my age away. 56.
You tell me over and over again. Change is on the way.

They told us we were too young. Didn't know what we were talking about. Don't worry, you'll grow out of it.
nothing beats vinyl
That's because this is vinyl!
Not sure what the source is for the "HQ" version (probably a CD)
Thanks for listening!
WABCRADIO77 can you upload more good vinyl

Got my draft notice when this song was on the AM radio...The draft would scare the sh**T out of todays Face Book robots....Not much has changed since '65....

The official song of the 2020s
NO MORE WAR!!!!!!
Many have said that ABC and Dunhill 45s sounded like they were pressed on asphalt and not vinyl.

Whats that gun you holding ? as we are told our equalizer !...
October 2023--"The eastern world, it is explodin'" Wow, such prophetic words considering the current war in Israel...
At 3:30 it reminds me of the bad tape edits I used to make putting tags on the end of a commercial!
Thanks for these great songs.

@grod75 It scared the shit out of me when it was released. IMcGuire made me think the end was nigh. He's a born again Christian, now

Where are you--I can hear it!
Chuck Viloria this ones for you my best friend God I fucking miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sad that it still applies to our world now.
@grod75 I'll second that emotion!
And, unfortunately, its message is still valid =(
Best comment.
This is actually Craze Productions.
It should be ok now.
nothing else like the wow and flutter of a 45 pressed off center.
Dedicated to all the freaks who think the world is ending on May 21, 2011.

It just shows that the same jerks that were alive and killing people throughout history in the name of Jesus Christ are still here.
