You have made me fall in love with your fishes Ben. I’m planing to completely change from Angelfishes to Malawi cichlids. Not just the colors are brilliant, your explanation as a father/lover are just amazing. Thanks for sharing with us, this video is going to be added to my favorite list so that I can later watch and buy every single of those fishes you just showed us. Keep up the good work Ben, much love from Sweden.
I am actually going back to Angels, keeping some africans for their colors and variety. I find the predator haps to be far too violent. I built a special 500 gallon set up for predators, the problem is when I introduce new fish they are killed. Not a good feeling when you grow a fish out to about 5 inches in a grow out tank, move him over and he gets beat to death, or dies from the stress. Just an experience I have had. there are families with a lot of color and good dispositions like the Placidochromis that I now focus on...
HI BEN; YOUR EYES ARE NOT DECEIVING YOU....HA-HA...YOUR FISH ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL. THAT HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THE GREAT CARE THAT YOU GIVE YOUR FISH.. THE MAINTENANCE IS SO IMPORTANT.....WATER CHANGES.......AND GOOD FOOD......BUT THE MORE LOVE WE GIVE OUR FISH....IT TRULY PAYS OFF......HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY MY FRIEND.......
Hello Daniel. I hope you are doing well and had a fun New Year holiday. What you say is true. It's how they pay us back or show us that they appreciate the good care. Thanks for stopping by.
Gorgeous fish, definitely kudos to your fishkeeping and great luck with grow outs! Anxious to see the sand diver mature, one of my faves, just for the "goofiness" 😆
All 3 of those “babies” are great looking ben! I have a sulfur head as well and he is awesome member of my tank. Really appreciate you man and looking forward to another great year watching your channel. Keep up the great work and happy 2020! Gator
Hi Ben. How are you Sir? I'm loving everything you shared in this brief video. The Fish are looking good, coloring up wonderfully. It is so cool that you have been sent a Fossochromis Rostratus. It has some nice color on it.
Ben beautiful fishes, but let me explain something. The sulfur head is not a aulocanara maylandi, is a protomelas mara rock or a hibrid of a mara rock. Protomelas Mara Rock are some of the specias referred as sulfur head, very pretty fish.
I think no matter what hobby a person is into, that they are & should be proud of it, what they do & what they accomplish in it. As a fish hobbyist, I'm proud of my fish. As a breeder, I am proud of being able to produce, raise, show, trade & sell what I have successfully raised...especially the difficult species. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment & makes me happy. If I see someone with a fish better than mine, I ask them many questions about how they raise their fish & then I try it to see if I can do it better. Personally, I love all my fish for different reasons & if everyone hated a type of fish that I happen to like, I would still own it. I do notice though that just like an ugly baby, people do often wear their rose-colored glasses. I think as a general rule, that people try not to hurt other peoples' feelings so they feign enthusiasm or interest when internally, they are really saying, "that is the most awful thing ever".
Your right, and comfort includes good tank living conditions, good tank mates, etc. I too gave away a fish that exploded with color with the new owner.
I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with Snake River species. Come over the the Ben O'Cichlid FB group page. I'm sure some people there are familiar with what you are interested in and would be happy to help.
When I have a fish, ESPECIALLY one that I bought at a LFS under “assorted African Cichlids” and suddenly one day you realize you have an excellent specimen, it’s thrilling . I have a fella that was hardly showing some faint blue at about 1-1/4”. Brought him home. He went grey for a while until suddenly those lips starting turning, now I have an excellent, large, full bodied alpha male Flametail. Same with an Otter point. It was a silver fella, sold as a Jacobfriebergi. Now it’s one if the most beautiful fish I own and it was bought for 11.99. When we buy something for 30 or 40 or more off of a breeder it’s expected so I think it’s more exciting when it’s a random “assorted” type. (I like to think I can kinda tell what I’m lookin at but admittedly I have been wrong and brought a female home). Live and learn I suppose.
TheTradesmen The Otter Point and Flametail are two of my fav’s. Watching them blossom must have been so exciting. I love buying adult males but there’s something very satisfying about a bargain priced fish turning into a rock star. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year.
Ben Ochart When I’m after something specific I will definitely seek out an adult male and pay the considerably higher price. I do have a bit of a weakness . Just going into a LFS to pick up something of course I have to see what they have. When I see a juvenile that I believe looks to have potential I sometimes take a chance. I’ve been wrong of course and ended up with a female . My wife is asking not to setup any more tanks so I suppose I am pretty much maxed out. We have a 125g , 55g, a 36 bow front that my neighbor set out by the curb for the garbage men to pickup. While I was loading it into my truck an older gentleman was walking his dog and asked me if I would like another 40, for free. Well, sure:) . Currently I keep a leopard gecko in one of the tanks, the rest are mostly peacocks and Haps, . Thank you for dedicating your time to make these videos that fish fanatics like myself enjoy to watch . Happy new year , sir 👍🏻
I suggested to my family that we just go ahead and convert the swimming pool into a pond. 🤷🏻♂️. Needless to say my wife and three daughters didn’t agree with my idea. 🤦🏻♂️😂
That's a great size to start with. Probably 10 - 15 of the bigger haps or 25 - 35 of peacocks and smaller haps. It also depends on the filtration (water turnover), maintenance schedule, etc. Let me know after you've put the filtration together and I can be less vague.
I have the eheim professional two and jebao uv filter cf-10 I have two peacocks and a few haps I been dorin a 30% to 40% water change about every week or week and a half. Water conditions have been staying within the range that is recommended for them. Just don’t want not enough or two many ps if u know of any good forums and fb pages that could help I would greatly appreciate it

No doubt about it...MY fish are the prettiest on UA-cam 😂😂
😂😂😂😂
I think after they feeling comfortable in the tank that's when they would color up. I all most gave away a few because I thought they were female s .
Your right, and comfort includes good tank living conditions, good tank mates, etc. I too gave away a fish that exploded with color with the new owner.
😂😂😂
Your tank is a rainbow 🌈 😍 I see it too. Happy new year Ben and your fish 🐟

Hey Ben can you please do a review on snake river cichlids. I love the pictures of his fish but can't find out too much about him.
