- The new Meze Audio flagship open-back headphone was just announced. With key developments in low-mass diaphragm technology and new carefully tuned earpads, the Elite assumes the role of Meze flagship. Here's the Link to discussion thread: www.head-fi.or...
Your professionally produced and informative reviews have become my reference for data before I make a buying decision. Great job!
I just received my Meze Elite. The hybrid earpads are 5mm shallower than the alcantara and leather pads the Empyrean had. My ears touch the inside grill on the Elite hybrid pads unlike the Empyrean pads.
Another excellent video and I now have another 'only a dream' pair of headphones to lust after and never own! lol
Excellent video, thanks so much.
Thanks for this Jude but you forgot to mention that the Empyrean ear pads are noticeably deeper, Alcantara or leather ones.
How much is "noticeably deeper?"
@@NoKNOTsense Actually, I believe the Alcantara pads are exactly the same at 30mm deep, but I believe the Elite's hybrid pads are 10mm shallower at 20mm
@@NoKNOTsense nevermind, only 5 mil shallower
I highly recommend doing THD recordings at higher volumes as well. At 80 dB, almost any headphone is going to register very low. What is the THD at 100 dB or greater? For anyone who says you don't list that loud, that's simply false. The bass impact at 100 db is a "normal" level. The mids and high's won't be listened to that loud, but it's very common for a song to push drivers into the 100 dB+ range in the bass frequencies and this is where most drivers struggle the most with distortion.
Yup 80, 90, 100 db or similar values are needed when showing THD.
The confusion about this is my fault, and I should have been clearer. We are now setting the voltage level in the Audio Precision analyzer using white noise, setting the analyzer to auto-set the voltage to the level at which 80 dBSPL of white noise is reached from the headphone.
Once that's done, we initiate the sweep. In the case of the Elite with hybrid earpads, that corresponds to an output of just over 93 dBSPL at 1 kHz. With the Alcantara earpads, it corresponds to an output at 1 kHz of around 93.8 dBSPL. I really should have been clearer about this, and am sorry for the confusion.
@@headfi Thanks for the clarification!
@Jason Franciosa, thanks for asking about that. I made a forum post with what I hope is some additional clarification here: www.head-fi.org/threads/meze-audio-elite-the-new-isodynamic-hybrid-array-headphone-official-thread.959445/post-16548509
The real question is, can the Elite compete with Utopia and Susvara?
No
For sure. I have the Utopia, 800s and Empyrean and each one has their own specific qualities, so the Elite being apparently an improved Empyrean should be an interesting alternative
how does it compare to 1266 and Susvara?
The Elite is more musical, intimate, and the bass hits harder and lower.
OMG I can't. 2021 is the Year of the Flagship Wars! Elite, DCA Stealth, CRBN, X9000! Ahhhhh my wallet is crying unconsolably
Better than the DCA Stealth ?
what's the principal difference between empyrean and elite?
Sound.
Great Review. Thanks :)
How does this technically compared to Abyss Diana Phi? Or Focal Utopia
Much lower distortion than both.
More questions than answers 😳
That THD is insane.
this vs. D8K pro vs. Utopia vs. LCD4 vs. Verite closed as a 2nd headphone?
Ok well how does compare to the new Audeze CRBN??
Or the new dca stealth for that matter
The CRBN is more resolving, and EQ'd, I'd take it over the Elite. In terms of non-EQ'd sound -- default signature -- the Elite with its hybrid earpads would be my choice. Keep in mind the CRBN is an electrostat, and requires what electrostats require. At my main desk at home, I more often have a non-electrostat-driving rig, so that also factors in.
Not taking into consideration the open-back / closed-back thing, unequalized the Elite's tonal balance would be my preference. To my ears, the Stealth is more neutral, but I tend to favor richer sounding headphones -- not thick, but richer-than-neutral. Also, while I can't think of a more open-back sounding closed-back than the Stealth, the Elite is an open-back, and a very capable one at that.
Now, *in* consideration of the open-back / closed-back thing, the Stealth will likely get more use from me, as a closed-back headphone fits in more with my current lifestyle. And, again, I can't think of a more open-back sounding closed-back than the Stealth.
@@headfi Hi Jude, in term of detail retrieval, how do you compare between stealth and elite?
@@headfi thanks for your responses! I didn’t ask the question but I did want to know the answer just as much.
How would they compare to T+A Solitaire P ?
Can both Empyreans coexist?
@@theterriblepuddle1830 In my book $3000 is already in price is no object territory. Might as well get the better one.
Looks like Audio - Technica wings
It doesn't have the awful fit issues of the Audio Technica wings though.
@@Currawong my R70X feel golden on my skull, no issues for me.
Plus the AT wings will definitely be cooler.
Boy that’s a wide head
Parus = Sail (Boat / Ship sail)
Did I pronounce it correctly? I have a way of mangling pronunciations: ua-cam.com/video/e-xTnDQIZjQ/v-deo.html
@@headfi😁😜 It was fine, but accentuation should be more on the Rus part, so Pah-Rus (Roos)
@Serhiy Sedlovsky, that's actually pretty good for me (which is perhaps not saying much)! 😁
Rinaro is Polish not Ukrainian company...
sky rocket price fly
.
When I look at that graph, the words that come to mind are "boring" and "non-engaging." Maybe they sound different in reality.
Good thing we do not listen with our eyes. ;)
