- Hallstatt in Austria, a road trip in winter. Don't just go to Austria during summer. Winter can be a beautiful time to do a road trip through Austria.
In this video we are going to drive through the beautiful winter landscapes in Austria. Leaving Salzburg behind us the journey starts a bit wet in Mondsee. But soon the road trip continues and turns into a beautiful winter fairy tale landscape. From places to St. Gilgen, Bad Ischl, St. Wolfgang and Hallstatt.
When you make a road trip in winter through Austria. You can't miss Hallstatt with its salt mine and beautiful town. However, be aware. Hallstatt has a very overcrowded tourist problem so be respectful to all the locals.
There is nothing better than doing a road trip through Austria in winter. Even if you can't climb all the mountains.

Would you like to do a road trip through Austria in winter?
Would you do a roadtrip in Austria?
definitely!!!
Did you ever do one?
Yes!!!
Yes, definitely, looks so beautiful!
Thanks for taking me back. I was there 55 years ago and I don't think it has changed. Wonderful ❤️🌈🎥👍
55 Years ago, that is a good while ago. Which places did you visit during that time? You didn't visit all those villages right?
Svenywhere most but the best memory is the slide into the salt mine. We were camping in the castle grounds.
I enjoyed your personality and also YOU ARE THE FIRST YOUNG AMERICAN WHO ACCUALLY SHOW ATLEAST a whole 50 second of Europe instead JUST OF YOUR SELF AND YOUR FELLOW AMERICANS IN THIS VIDEO.
I am glad to hear you enjoyed my personality. Unfortunately sorry to ruin the dream but I am not American.
Was there in 2022 and went to Austria on a whim. By far the most beautiful country in Europe, if not the world. I hope it stays under the radar so it does not loose its charm. Vienna, Salzburg and Hallstatt were the places I went, will never forget them. Thank you for sharing this.
You did a similar road trip then. It would have been an amazing trip you did I guess!
Even with all the fog and rain looks like a fantastic place the action with you and the food are fantastic.
The snow in the end was just worth it! And yeah food can be good as well.
That's a very beautiful roadtrip. Winter and snow (not too much) always make the place looks magical.
Yeah winter was bad this year, so not that much snow as we hoped for.
Yes, the winters in Europe aren't what they used to be. More is the pity. Absolutely beautiful surrounds though Sven. Very nice shots, amazing scenery. I just imagines the snow in places.
Last year our winter in Russia (St. Petersburg and Moscow) was amazing in terms of snow. However, this year was really bad indeed. I miss the moments of ice skating in the forests in the Netherlands.
Hallstatt is high on my list, so thanks for taking us there. December in Austria sounds like a wonderful trip - love how old Europe cities are (1300s!). Yeah, I guess I understand how Austria may not be a good place to shop during Christmas time LOL.
Love the torte - looks so good. The salt mine tour looks interesting, and finally Hallstatt tour is a bit more touristy than I wanted it to be.
Thanks for sharing!
To be fair. Austria is much better during this period than Christmas Eve in Germany. In Germany most of the things are closed around that time, at least during Christmas the cities in Austria had still most of its things open. And as I said, while Hallstatt offers everything (salt mine, mountain, village next to the lake), you can discover this all in the area in other places (except the salt mine) with less tourists around you.
Stunning views! 😍 I've never explored Austria
Never? You should go at some point. Especially in Spring and go for some hiking.
omg that view over the lake in the morning without clouds was something amazing! the salt mine looks very interesting but my favourite part was the delicious cake :D great video!
Sorry if I made you hungry with that cake, the cake tasted really good at least. Glad you enjoyed the journey with me!
thanks for sharing!!
You're welcome 😀
Wow. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Just a big wow...it’s heaven, superb views....love Austria...so beautiful coverage....enjoyed the trip with u
Thank you for enjoying the trip. It didn't start well in terms of weather but the end was more than worth it!!!
So great that you made the best of some inclimant weather. They seemed to have really cleared up the Christmas decorations so quickly. The salt mines looked like such an intriguing place to visit. Taking the gondola ride looked breathtaking!! How fun to be able to slide down the rails. The views of the mountains were stunning!!😊
The final view was so worth it! Even though the first day was rainy the second day made totally up for this.
Glad to see that the weather finally cooperated and the views came out! Hallstatt was indeed beautiful AND the salt mine! Thanks for sharing your adventure. 👍 -Howard
Thanks for watching!
Wonderful, I've been in Austria a couple of years ago during the Christmas time and it was amazing!
Where have you been in Austria during Christmas?
@@Svenywhere classic Vienna Christmas markets!
@@AndreaMartini83 You will see more of those tonight!
Austria is so beautiful! Sorry you didn't get too lucky with the weather at Mondsee, but glad you got better weather later on. Cafe Zauner at Bad Ishcl looked so delicious! And I definitely have to check out the salt mines, so interesting! Lake, village and mountains, so peaceful and beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
It was indeed a great trip thanks.
Gosh the food at 3 minutes looked amazing, I would happily eat that cake. This town looks so beautiful and peaceful. The salt mine tour looks cool, I visited the coal mines in the UK when I was a child, very memorable experience. Really incredible place, I'd like to visit here.
Wait, wait local mine visits in the UK? Where, maybe I need to do that as well?
Mm, that cake looks good, but I think those open faced sandwiches, all shiny look even more amazing! Glad you got to see the views in St Wolfgang. I love cable cars but have never ridden them in the snow - very pretty though I bet it must have been sehr kald. ❄ I had no idea that Austria had salt mines.
Austria is full with salt mines. The salt under the ground spans all the way from Munich to Vienna. So loads of salt to dig for. And in regards of the sandwiches, the prawn sandwich tasted really good as well!
I've been in Austria 3 years ago but I just stayed for one day. Hahaha You made me wanna come back and eat a cake (dammit now I really want a cake!)
Btw your storytelling is amazing! I will definitely watch more videos! (:
Thanks, and sorry for making you hungry. Hope you managed to get your cake in the end.
My wife was there for the Christmas markets a few years ago (you were there for Christmas as well!). She always said that Austria and Vienna are gorgeous with the snow... but super cold. I guess you two agree on that! :D
Places are getting so beautiful with snow! Same with Russia!
I understand you disappointment at Mondsee but thanks god you got compensated in St. Wolfgang . liked the salt mine as well
The more we drove further, the better the weather became and the better the footage. On top of the mountain at Hallstatt is just amazing.
What app did you use for the map? I always wanted to do something like that. Thanks I wouldn't mind raining, Austria s beautiful. Those cakes and bread/toasts looks appetising. Putting Halstatt on bucketlist especially that Salt mine
It isn't an easy App or something. I just used After Effects and had to make it myself.
I always love a good Austrian cake! Btw how did you get so good with your camera skills? You're a complete pro!
Thanks for the compliment :D Just a matter of practice with your phone. All shot with my phone. Glad you liked the Austrian roadtrip
@@Svenywhere Are you serious? I thought you were using a DSLR!
Hello! Just found your video and like it so much! This end of year we're planning on renting a camper and drive from italy to germany passing through Austria. Is there any recommendations ( first time driving with snow)? How about the toll roads (are they like in switzerland that you need a vigneta? Or like in italy that you can pay at the toll?. Thanks!!!!!
You need a vignetta but I believe rental cars come with them, at least we didn't pay extra for it or avoided the toll roads. Most of the roads are well cleaned just drive carefully and slower in snow and don't break suddenly. Overall you will be okay. I hope you had fun!
Hi Bro! At what month did you visit austria? Thanks! New subscriber here! 😀
Thanks for joining the family. I visited Austria in December, we were in Hallstatt between Christmas and New Year.
missed winter this year sadly. wish i had a warm fire right now. :)
Was your winter really bad (almost non existing) as here in Europe? Or you have been somewhere else on the world at the moment?
Hiiii
