An epically deep poetical description of the Norwegian Night Sky! Well said Cory! 😄 I do however have some questions about the one part You guys unfortunately couldn’t cover up close… the Towers! How is it that the Chairs\Carts simply pass over the Tower Wheels? What guarantees [if anything 😅] that with some side wind or passenger motion the chair takes the line & slips right or left off the wheels completely? Or, worse, the chair’s clip detaches from the line all together while it’s passing over the wheels? Also, is it a must that the cable line is all one single continuous cable of metal threads, even if it’s going for hundreds of Kilometers? I think it would be a major industrial challenge as opposed to making modules of a set length [say 100 meters] & connect them together… If that’s actually already the case, how does the chair/cart clip smoothly pass the connection ‘knot’\mechanism instead of being stopped by it or, similar to the Tower Wheels risk, detaching the chair from the cable? Sorry for the essay of questions Hope You could answer [any of] them & Thanks a lot for reading in all cases Awesome Channel! Wish You all the Best Mate!
Nice Norwegian at the start there Cory. It's a big sign of respect when you address people in their native tongue, even tough most Norwegian are capable of speaking English in some capacity. Thank you!
For having it sprung on him Chris handled it like a pro and was really good at describing the mechanics of the pully system, Glad to know it's not just me who asked to go and look at stuff 😂.
Very interesting, I always wondered about the mechanisms in the lifts. Cheers Cory and Chris you're a legend for taking the time to give us all the tour!
4:05 That power quality stuff is actually the DC variable speed drive for the main lift motor. 9:01 The big blue thing is a DC motor, and all the noise is from the forced cooling fan on it. I’m guessing that the motor is about 450kW. DC motors and drives are cool, much torque at zero speed. Nice work Cory.
This was seriously cool Cory, you must have loved this. Yeah, fell for it at the beginning, thought it was a drop in and ask about it but this video was fully planned, well done!!! Beautiful part of the world...
5:31 Before PLC’s these break forks were all connected in series, if the circuit resistance was 0, it was ok to run. Each fork would bypass a resistor, so If a fork was broken it put a resistance into the safety circuit. By measuring the circuit resistance you could tell at which tower the broken fork was at. Neat aye.
Worked as an electrician for 9 years on a ski field in new zealand. You have 2 main safety circuits on a chairlift. Stop circuit - includes stop buttons and other limit switches etc. This would stop the lift quite slowly. And emergency stop circuit - this would include E Stop button, cable position forks, break limit switches and rollback monitoring. A rollback that doesnt stop would be catastrophic. This would stop the lift very quickly. You should do a season as a spark there. Its alot of fun, along with being very rewarding when fixing the lift it it breaksdown.
@@edc1569 Thats right. You have a service brake, which is the flywheel brake shown in the video, and you also have an emergency brake which operates on the main bullwheel that the cable runs around. Emergency brake stops the lift much faster, and you will noticeably feel the bounce in the lift if you are sitting on it, especially with older detachable chairlifts like the one in this video.
I'm a sucker for big-style engineering and seeing this kind of equipment is like candy to a baby for me. These kinds of things are the everyday (or once in a lifetime for me) items that you use, never giving a second thought to. But in the back of my brain (much younger mind back then) I was thinking, I'd love to know and see how this lift works and runs. These kinds of things are mindblowing until you start working on them every day. Driving an HGV was kind of scary for me until I actually passed my HGV licence. But now I do it without even thinking. This must be the same phenomenon. Thoroughly interesting and thanks to Chris for the very informative walkthrough.
Another awesome video, thank you for taking us into the world of electrics, so informative. Cory, you’ve really yourself excelled from Artisan Electrics totally respect to you.
Wicked mate. This is what it is content, not the same old solar installation or board change or car charger... And Chris was a outstanding fellow, in my home country no one would do that kind of tour for a visitor on any thing similar, because is a hassle for them. Glad to see some people who enjoy their work and don't mind to teach someone or show what they enjoy to do. Keep it up Cory and let's see when the Wind Farm video drops. It is the second time you mention Wind Farm in a video. That is the one I really are very interested into checking. Keep up the good work Cory.
Having ridden on lifts like these a number of times, I’ve always had the same curiosity as to how they work! Thank you for getting it documented and on the channel😄 👍🏻
2:30 mins in and I'm already smashing the thumbs up multiple times, realising i can't do more than one. I love these kinds of videos and when you explore other countries electrical systems, pointing at pros and cons compared to UK.
Cool insight into engineering thingies. Surprisingly complicated control system for a big motor and some wires. 😅 I agree with the other comments about a ‘How it works’ theme, seems really natural. All the best. I

Cool video, I always wondered how they slowed down the lift, didn't know it actually came off the haul rope but I guess it would have to, you just better hope it clamps back on ok :)
Not your usual video but enjoyed watching it. I do hate to see people sitting by fires breathing in the smoke as I have seen first hand the damage it does to lungs. Trust me, stay away from smoke off fires bud. Looking forward to the next video.
Cory, Another great video. if you don't speak up. We won;t know. your Norwegan is impressive to an Irishman. how often does the bull cable have to be replaced due to ware and tear ,and extreme wearher conditions? The cable car system in San Francisco is equally interesting in its installation and use, it can be a Part 2 video some time in your video series. thanks for this great birthday present.
"Oh, sorry to hear that" 😆😂🤪Fascinating video, what a sportsman Chris is to show you around in such depth. You would never be allowed to do that in England, as the deadly twin demons of Health & Safety would be invoked to stop you. At 25:05 maybe astronomy/philosophy/poetry just aren't your things?
Well that was fun I never knew the chairs actually came off. Would love to do some thing like that but everything's proprietary can't show you, waivers etc. these days so annoying.
That was brilliant, what a lovely bloke and how convenient he was English and a Brummy toboot😂! Really interesting video and such beautiful scenery, nice to see your young lady, albeit briefly and darkly. ☺️ Thanks Cory, smashing job. 👍👏 Edit: just read all the comments, apologies, didnt realise you'd got married, belated congratulations to you both, i wish you a long happy and contented marriage.🥰
Apologies if you have been asked this before and answered, (looking through the comments I cannot find such). Why don’t you do as Chris, from Birmingham via Scotland, and live and work in Norway? Especially since you are either already married to a Norwegian lady, or about to? 👍
Really interesting, and a great example as to why control systems for these things should never run on a consumer OS like Windows XP, clearly the system can continue to run for many years to come but the lifespan of a Windows OS is vastly shorter than the devices it is controlling :(
Did you make it to the little philosophical treat at the end?

Absolutely amazing video Cory and you're so lucky to get the full tour. Beats crawling into tiny kitchen cupboards to terminate an ultra-ev cable😂

Hi Cory,
I love watching your videos. Technically brilliant and very informative! Looking forward to catching up with you on the next one! 👍⚡️
Thank you! 😎
Great guy Chris showing you around , interesting and educational Thanks Cory ⚡️👊
Chris is a legend for allowing this, great video Cory!
I agree! Thanks!
Yes yes yes. King of the electrical channels 🎉 - always something worth the click
What would be class is if you use abbreviations you pop a bit of text what it means and a 1-2liner summary what it is for us non savvy watchers :)
I can definitely do that!

Awesome video Cory. Big thanks to Chris for the tour. Super interesting.
You’re welcome!
Mega, looking forward to watching this 😍
Black with lots of speckles of white. Cory philosophy. Awesome stuff Cory! Cheers

I think you've found a new niche. "How it works, with Cory"!!
How about a video on how the London Eye works? Lifts? Etc etc
Exactly :D
Been on one of the lifts a long time ago great video mate 👏👏😎
Thanks mate!
Installed my first Zappi last week here in Finland. I've installed other brands but not Zappi before

Wow! Really interesting! Great content!
Thanks Scott!
Great video and your Norwegian sounds great, how long did it take you to get that fluent? Fantastic drone shots at the end BTW!

I enjoyed that Cory. Found it interesting.
I am surpised they don't have loads of solar panels up there, as it seems really bright.
It would be cool!! Although covered in snow all winter ❄️
You’re a great snowboarder!!!
Thanks, I’m aiming for Winter Olympics next year. Wish me luck
0:49 EPIC…! 🤣 (Greetings from Sarpsborg, nå prekær’u bra norsk! 👍)

Haha, cheers man!
special content , thank you Cory
Was this pre-planned or completely spontaneous? 👀🤩 Brilliant video either way! 😎
MY son of 9 watched this, he was really interested how chair lifts operate, for me that's just brilliant.
That’s great! A young engineer in the making 😁

Wonder how often those brake pads need changing? 🤔 you love a big cog you Cory!😂

Unexpected but interesting content! I am like you, I love to see how stuff works. You would love looking around CERN let me tell you!
Next video: Cory gets a tour by a bloke from Wales running a nuclear power plant in France.
Fantastisk!!! ❤🎉
Great video!! Certainly different from the Artisan content. Keep on trucking!!👍👍
cool vid cory (litrrally!)
your norwegian is so fun to listen to
Thanks!
"I'm English, so we can speak the Queen's if you want." - Oh dear, has he not heard yet?

Nice one Cory , I take it the honeymoon was to Norway them ,,
It wasn’t! This was filmed a long time ago, before I was married 🤣
Ser deg neste gang, bra vid

Verry interesting!
Cheers!
love how this dude was down to give you a tour. this would never happen in 'merca
Legend!
Soo good cory i know you are my brother but i am amazed
When does Jaws and James Bond have their fight scene?
You need to make the Milwaukee scooter into a skidoo now
How have you learned so much norwegian so fast? :o

nice
Well done you lucky man up the walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall keep it up
Oh, a massive thank you to Chris in allowing to film this and taken you/us through the mechanical control system👍👍
Thanks Timothy!
Love it
dissapointed you didnt point out those beautiful boards
This is like blue peter

Norsken din blir stadig bedre :)
Tusen takk!
Get yourself some ND filters cory.
I’m on it, I need to upgrade my whole camera kit really 😅 - I also have no IBIS lol

You do not need to speak in native tongue in scandinavia :) We all know english and are pretty proficient in it aswell.
