I think it's pretty easy to overlook Elbow as a seriously "vanilla" band. But digging just a little into the simplicity of sentiment in their songs, and you find a band who are so precise and considered that their message speaks to us all. I'm 18, around the age Guy was when he wrote this, and it feels so right to me. So whether you're looking forward to it, remembering it or experiencing it, we all know this feeling. To me, jesus is a brighton girl. Perfect.
they've certainly picked up a slightly more electro sense in the past couple of years, while still maintaining their traditional stuff. Listen to "Giants of All Sizes" to understand what I mean
Beautiful. Every part is just what's needed no more no less. Drums, bass, great for the song. That guitar part is harder than it looks too. That's some accurate strumming. I've tried it. I always thought the keyboard part was a deliberately out of sync overdub but here he's reproducing it. Guy is always great. Elbow lyrics are so earthy and visual.
Whoever she is/was, sounds like one in a million. What a tribute to have.
So simple and understated. I have listened to this song frequently this year. Bloody love it!
I've listened to this song for many years. Still one of the most powerful and memorable songs I know. Thankyou Elbow x
I agree it's incredibly moving
Agreed
One of the best songs ever written. The simplicity is key to that.
Timeless 🙏
This is Lennon/McCartney level songwriting, absolutely amazing. paints a picture in your mind you can't deny.
Guy is a legend. Too bad most people don't see it. Nobody writes like this guy. NOBODY
This song has been with me for over ten years and it still touches in me something for which art exists.
Simple, sincere, unforgettable
