So many people who just casually experience Kate think she’s just some artsy 80s synth-pop phenom, and never realize she is *not* afraid of rocking out - or anything else, for that matter.

@@WhatTheHellEverything There is a delightful three minute UA-cam video of Kate with the Trio Bulgarka, taking about working with the trio and showing a short clip of them recording some of their backing vocal to Rocket’s Tail. Just do a search on “Kate Bush with the Trio Bulgarka (Rhythms Of The World, 1989)”

Don't miss "This Woman's Work", "Don't Give Up" (feat. Peter Gabriel), "Wuthering Heights", "Cloudbusting", "Breathing", "The Man With A Child In His Eyes", "Suspended In Gaffa", "Night Of The Swallow", and probably the suite "The Ninth Wave" (side 2 of "Hounds Of Love" album) and/or "A Sky Of Honey" (side 2 of "Aerial"). There's much more to recommend, but this is for starters... ;-)

I just can't describe her. So lucky to have her in music history, and she started in the 70s no less. Solely writes and produces all of her music--started when she was a kid writing songs. Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd stepped in and persuaded the label to sign her. She's like a myth or something lol. I think so many of us missed out because she absolutely hates the aspect of celebrity. There was one period when she was not seen or heard from for 12 years straight. No tours, except her first in the 70s. She just does not play the circuit and only speaks through her music.

The Trio Bulgarka (backing vocals) sing notes that don't exist in Western music. Sprinkle in a little David Gilmore on guitar, and of course Kate, and you have a masterpiece....

The older female Bulgarian folk trio here supporting Kate, couldn't speak a word of English. It's like they communicated through telepathy. Kate wrote the song especially to bring exposure to them. Song title inspired by Rocket (one of Kate's pussy cats) Dave Gilmour on guitar. He discovered Kate in 1973, when she was 15 years old. Child prodigy. Great reaction BTW Subscribed. I love seeing the look on peoples' faces when the band kicks in. Another one featuring David Gilmour is "Love and Anger" P.S. If you like all things Irish, Kate sings "Mna na hEireann" (Women Of Ireland) in Gaelic. I can't understand a word of it, but it's gorgeous.

omg your face! Excellent, I loved it when her rocket went off in your face! Twice! I will admit, if you are just starting off listening to Kate Bush, that was a brave choice, (or rather, a brave recommendation) Not taking anything away from the songs on the Sensual World, but Kate's (inspired) use of the Trio Bulgarka and their Bulgarian throat-singing did make those songs a touch less accessible than we were used to. Personally, I went out and bought a couple of Trio Bulgarka LPs and was throat-singing round the house for months!
I love Rocket's Tail because only Kate Bush could take Balkan folk music, and 'rocket' up.
And once again, as in all Kate's songs, while she's giving you all the quality music you could ever hope for, she's telling you a story... this one about dressing up as a Rocket, lighting your fuse, and putting on a show for the whole town... we all want to, admit it.

Your trip to 🇮🇪 sounds incredible, a whole freaking year! ♥️
Rockets Tail may be my favorite song ever, it’s so wild.
Kate has also done several Celtic inspired tracks, The Jig of Life would be a great song, but if you have time you really should react to the entire suite of songs of side two of Hounds of Love called the Ninth Wave.
One note however, about this album the song called Love and Anger was number 1 on the Billboard modern songs chart.
In order to have been exposed to her in the US you would have to have an alternative/modern rock station or listened to college radio.
Im enjoying seeing your reaction to these incredible song.

I would consider Kate Bush an album artist more than a singles artist. Like so many great 60's and 70's bands, she has some really good side-twos. This is especially true for the albums The Dreaming, Hounds Of Love, and Aerial. The Ninth Wave (side-two of Hounds Of Love) and A Sky Of Honey (disc-two of Aerial) are song suites that are meant to be listened to together, à la Abbey Road.

Once you are in your final set-up I have plenty of suggestions from Kate's 1979 BBC Christmas Special - which was notable for being the most un-Christmas Special that you ever come across! It was also remarkable that her worldwide smash hit debut single "Wuthering Heights" never featured at all. In terms of studio album tracks there's so much to choose from mid eighties to nineties from her album's "Hounds Of Love", "Sensual World"" or "The Red Shoes". Or there's early Kate Bush on her marvelous debut album "The Kick Inside" followed later in 1978 by "Lionheart". Then with her 3rd album "Never For Ever" Kate is credited as being co-producer and there's a distinct difference, I feel that Kate is beginning to spread her musical wings and this is the 1st album where the Fairlight CMI makes an appearance, it would be used to even greater effect on "The Dreaming" the 1st album which Kate was the sole producer. "The Dreaming" is Kate's most experimental "out there" album which is why a lot for a lot of Kate Bush fans it's either number 1 or 2 in their best album lists.

Leslie Turner I still collect vinyl. The problem when it comes to Kate, is deciding which disc to put on the turntable first. I can never make up my mind. Invariably I end up starting with "The Kick Inside" and don't stop until the end of '50 Words For Snow" Lucky I'm on the age pension. Otherwise I'd never get things done.

@@warrenbridges1891 I think, this is the very best method to get into these albums: Start with "Moving" of "The Kick Inside" and don't stop until "Among Angels" of "50 Words For Snow". Problem is, that there's also "Don't Give Up", "Experiment IV", "Rocket Man", "The Man I Love", etc, and all the B-sides and some of the demos. It's not easy to accomplish this!

The guitar on this track David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. This album, The Sensual World, has one of the best song transitions ever. Listening to this song on the album, Rocket's Tail is followed by This Woman's Work, an insanely good track, there is such a great contrast, kind of like I Want You (She's So Heavy) transitioning to Here Comes The Sun (if not listening to the LP).

Found your channel a few moments ago.
You're listening to all of the best music humans produced.. from a quick glance at your channel.
This album, is heavily influenced by Celtic music, instruments and patterns.
But there is a much deeper level of consciousness being expressed here than simple INFLUENCE of culture.
This was made with the mind, inspired directly from Kate as soul.
I use plants like a shaman, a psychedelic wizard. And for the last 5 years this album has been one of my favourite ones for reintegrating myself into this game of what we call life.
Another suggestion for you. It's on this level of EPIC.
Roy Harper, The same old rock.
Check out Robbie Basho also. Orphans lament.. moving up aways.
My suggestions are of two little known artists. One from England and one from America, both active in the 60s and taking folk music, giving it a new lease of life from soul.
