Gday Alan, long time fisho - new viewer! Thanks for the inspo - I realized recently that I hadn't bought a fishing rod for about 15 years - so I got a 1-4 kg bream 7ft Raider and a 2500 Shimano Miravel - aim is to have a crack at this soft plastics biz! Hoping to chase some whiting wading from the beach etc this summer (around the Vic/SA border area)... thanks again for rekindling my interest to try something new.
Love the content Al been watching for the past 2 years and back watch all your stuff, love the education you give. I would love it see a fishing equipment ep where you could give some advice on comparing different combos we could get budget vs top end and see what the difference is plus how to pick the right rod/reel for the job. Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks !! That's very much appreciated. I cover gear, workshops, tutorials and a lot more stuff like that in great detail on the FishingMad members area. The UA-cam channel is more to cover my fishing adventures and sharing some helpful tips. But a LOT more content and detail in our members area, plus reports, podcasts, giveaways all sorts of stuff. Hope that helps. i
i dont fish often but the warmies are a great spot, i used the pink Gulp prawn/shrimps and have caught everything u can in that area. A lot of big Take Home flat heads and whiting and some young undersized snapper, salmon and mulloway i couldn't keep. All of the gulps. Brim are abit harder and want smaller live baits
In 38 year's fishing Newport, I'm favourite spot is the outlet but only when it's on. The trav chase the bait, salmon clean up and shark's chase them all to warm water hence you're only catching salmon in the cooler waterways
Pound for pound they fight as good as any fish out there. Nice one Alan. I'm keen to get down to the old stomping grounds in the Otways for some late season stonkers from the rocks.
Hi Alan enjoy your show just watching the vlog are the salmon your catching there good to eat I live near lakes entrance iam down at tyres surf beach a fair bit love to catch and eat
Hi Alan! Thanks for another awesome video! I am just wondering is the warmies (the hotties) a good fishing spot when there is low tide? Cause I have noticed that the water is not too deep over there. Keep on the good work!
Thank you and yes it can fish well at both low and high tide. It can be a very hit and miss spot, obviously, the pumps running late winter or early spring changes all that but we do get good runs of pinkies and snapper in there aswell and mulloway and I've caught on both tides there, may just be harder to land fish and require working the plastic a bit faster on peak low.
Thanks Alan for the tips using soft plastics. I usually go to Wyndham harbour at the rock wall but I use bait, I want to try soft plastics out there as I've never seen anyone use them. Any tips on what type of soft plastic to go for?
Start with a berkley gulp 4 inch turtleback in camo rigged on 1/8 2-0 pinkies and salmon go crazy over them. I might head there over the coming weeks and film an episode
Nice fishing, but typical Yarra river dodgy water quality ... There's a hardcore crew that fish as close as possible to the outlet. They cast tiny plastics for Bream. Always interesting to watch. Great info and tips !!!!
Yeah the water clarity there is really bad, lots of people take fish home to eat from there which is something I don't do. I also saw a few small bream, trevally and tailor caught near the outlet
There are plenty of helpful tips in this vid, so make sure you watch it all the way through. Runs through some really helpful things. This time of year the water temp is still low, yesterday was 12 degrees so tge fishing is still very slow over the coming weeks it will rise 2-3 degrees and the fishing will go really good for pinkies, flathead, whiting, snapper, etc This time of year work the plastics very slow, fish as light jig head that you can get away with, use gulp plastics they are brilliant, other brands also good. Cheers
Mix it up, different techniques, different plastics, different jighead weights but most importantly, for most species, make sure you give it enough time to get to the bottom and cover as much ground as you can. Don't keep casting into the same spot over and over.
Just watch heaps of video,s on youtube its not hard use a good rod and reel and good line dont have to spend a fortune but it makes a difference to fishing.
Slow down. Make sure your lure sits on the bottom for few seconds on every hop. Use light line, leader and jig heads w/ quality plastics and I guarantee you’ll catch fish.
Nice one dude, been wanting to become a member for a while, might be able to be a member for a month or two. When is best time to be a member for a month or two? Will have to hit that spot on school holidays
Thanks !! Anytime is a good time to become a member, but were going live with a refreshed website in 2-3 weeks and will have heaps of content around snapper, whiting and heaps of other species as they will start to fire in a few weeks. catching them already now but will be more consistent very soon. Hope to see ya in the members area soon. Best Regards Al | FishingMad
This was filmed 2-3 weeks ago, all of our content takes a few weeks to put together. I think Friday first week of spring, when its freezing cold that's usually when I head down. I doubt it will run again now until next winter
3 million people in ALL of WA and 5+ million in Melbourne alone will do that. I'd bet dollars to donuts there's spots in WA where the water is far from perfect. You work with what you've got.
The Azzholes who drop rubbish & bottles Pick it up ruins a good day out leave it natural riding behind a mother & daughter teen drops wrapping without a care i pick it up and said Its ok the Bins just a metres ahead away @@ theres a fine but gotta catch em $
I know. Even myself, watching it, wanted to get all the rubbish. The water was flowing so slowly and much out of reach, but rest assured, I did collect plenty of rubbish whilst I was there. It's so frustrating seeing spots like this overrun with litter.
Just because the water isn’t lovely and clear doesn’t mean it’s not healthy. The brown is caused by clay sediment in the water from the pristine upper catchment area.
Why soft plastic all the time Why dont you doing bait fishing i know why soft plastic eazy for you you making eazy money myt we wont a see you fishing with bait
What a stupid comment, I have done hundreds of videos on the channel fishing with bait. Fishing with soft plastics and lures is so much harder then fishing with bait. It takes a lot of practice to catch with them consistently and Its more enjoyable and requires a lot less gear.

I'm so glad the content has been helpful for you. Good luck on the whiting that rod combo will be perfect for them.
Good on you mate. My old man used to take me here when I was a young fella. Was a rough part of town 25 years ago!

Agreed, they are so much fun to catch. The Otways is such a great spot so hopefully you do well there
Hi Alan I’m from Portland, just wondering if you could do some more videos there this summer. Thanks Tom
Can get some monster mulloway down there at night with the right conditions! Great stuff!
Yeah IV heard the same thing
Great content AL!
Thanks so much !!
Good stuff 👍
Cheers 👍
Hi Alan enjoy your show just watching the vlog are the salmon your catching there good to eat I live near lakes entrance iam down at tyres surf beach a fair bit love to catch and eat
I reckon those Nomad soft vibes would go well in there.
Agreed, I do have some and will try them next time
Even in far northern Queensland it's cold for spring. No fish around. We saw a school of northern tuna but couldn't get a hit ❤❤
Great videos.
Can I ask how you know the power station is running? I can't seem to find a schedule.
It usually runs in peak winter as an overflow on really cold days, mornings that are very cold often a good chance its running
@@fishingmad Thank you.
Great vid mate
Looks like a good spot but I bet it gets busy there I will have to have a crack there cheers mate

Hahah the warmies pump... how many snags you get?
None, it really depends on how you fish there, if you fish with baits and sinkers there then snags are extremely common,
Nice catch I live in Altona is this place close? My family likes Australia salmon in New Zealand we call it kahawai
Hi Alan, I’ve been using a lot of soft plastics recently and I just can’t seem to catch so do you have any tips? Cheers

The yarras definitely gettin healthier since they started releasing more than a trickle from upper yarra dam
Where do you like the tide to be at? Near full tide or?
Yeah I prefer near high tide as its very shallow and snaggy on low tode
Would it be safe to consume the fish you catch around there?
what day was this filmed and how do you know when the steam stack is blowing, thanks

Hi Alan can you tell me which size of the hook and the plastic lures
Berkley Gulp 4 inch Minnow in pilchard colour rigged on a 1/8 2-0 jig head. Hope that helps
@@fishingmad thank you very much
Surprised they haven’t put a fence around it yet to stop a free feed
Looking at the condition of the water no wonder the fish love eating soft plastic
Do you need to have fish license in this area?
Whats the area i wana check it out and get a massive catch
I live in Western Australia and that water looks putrid
Ahh the memories…..It maybe a shithole, but it’s our shithole.
I remember the Yarra in Healesville used to have awesome sand bars and was sorta clear it's rooted now but getting better

Newport, warmies or hotties because of the power station

Up in north queensland that's live bait caught time to get fish and 😂
Perfect size for a live bait targeting kingfish.
