@guzmano99 That discussion usually goes something like this: free will exists when it's necessary for our argument and doesn't exist when it contradicts our argument.
His criteria for saying it's a type is basically if the prior event he wants to parallel the later event to is listed in the Bible (basically if it says it in the Bible) and sounds even vaguely similar to something else in the Bible (or if the author just says it's a type), then it's a type, and if the event paralleling the supposed older event isn't written in the Bible then it's not a type--but by his criteria if the American manifest destiny were written in the Bible (or written in that a book that would later become accepted as part of the canon), then it would suddenly become a type. Problem also is, by that criteria, both for people who don't accept the New Testament as canonical or for those in history whom it wasn't written yet or accepted as canon yet, this falls flat. It's only a type for those who believe it is, but for the rest of us it isn't. But if you’re going to insist on a type being real, you'd have to demonstrate that it happens in reality in history for it to be a type, and not just in books dependent on when the authors say its a type, or when some future readers of those authors come along and say it's a type. I mean it's better for sure to say it's a type because at least the authors of the book say it is, than to say that you think its a type because some later reader came along who misunderstood he authors and anarchonistically claims that is (and so claim something that the original author never intended), but even if the author of the book themselves says it's a type, that is still a tenuous claim yet to proven (and one which that author may themselves also be a reader who is anachronistically claiming so of a past author), not evidence for the claim of types and shadows. Thing is though, as I far as I know, types are exactly that, literary allusions of an author imposing their own ideas (sometimes anachronistically) onto a work of a past author (who I could easily assume was in no way writing with the intent that some future author would come along and reappropriate his work for their own purposes to either make connections that aren't there and/or change its meaning entirely--and its bad exegesis at that) and not something that happens in reality. You might as well say Jungian archetypes actually exist, and aren't just patterns of behavior that we ve come up with to describe (not prescribe) different behaviors that seem to be common in humanity (or in stories, dreams, etc). Hopefully this rant made sense, such a confusing topic to talk about because the belief is so confused, and especially because it takes so much longer to debunk false claims than to make them I find, unfortunately.

If something can only qualify as a typology if the fulfillment is explicitly found in the Bible, then by that logic, no typologies could point to Jesus’ second coming either, since the second coming itself isn’t explicitly detailed in the Bible and hasn’t happened yet. This reasoning would undermine the concept of typologies altogether.
