    I just got an FZ40 for like $45. The super zoom is so fun. I have a Canon R6 that I use for more intentional stuff, but just every day stuff, I use the FZ40 outside and my iPhone inside. That pretty much covers everything I’d want without costing very much at all.

    Not a big refresh, but I’m just glad this means the super zoom bridge camera isn’t dead. Not yet. I feel like of all the compact digicams, the super zoom bridge is the only one that hasn’t been entirely replaced by the smart phone.

    I bought the original FZ80 new when it came out, and i still keep it in my bag of cameras i carry around everywhere i go.
    I enjoy bridge cameras.
    I'm a pixel peeper, so 1200mm really isnt very usable for me; that lens is just too soft. Use it under 600mm for birds and insects under 30 feet away, and it's pretty good! I love the challenge of getting good shots with it. I'll buy the new one probably. 🙂

    I've been using the FZ82 for many years now (sadly the optics has started to show some errors), it's great for its price, and have been able to make some stunning shots. Sadly, it only works when everything is optimal for it, which is rare. But when it happens, it's amazing :)
    Still waiting for the RX10 V to upgrade (which probably won't happen, i know)

    I was hesitating, finally went for the FZ300. I don’t need such a long zoom, so the f 2.8 lens of the FZ300, although discontinued, did it. The price difference, brand, new, was negligible where I live.

    It will be interesting to see a video comparison of both old and new version, especially in 4K30 video mode to see the difference in clarity and stabilization (wobbling and waving) at full zoom.

    As the sensor technology leap forward over time, small sensor like FZ80D could do excellent job in low light.

    I have the fz80, it's four years old and causing me enough problems to perhaps be dropped in the lake (oops). I came by to check out the Fz80D version. With your reviews there is no guessing left. I like your honesty. At 1:17 of the video I can see one of my problems, and it;s the first time I have seen it anywhere else. In the bottom left there is an indicator RETURN.
    That shows up after almost every shot on my camera and until I press the ok button I can't focus. That will make that thing gator bait. After I take the card out with the poor quality pics here lately. To me, in the video it seems the Fz80d has the same problem. Mine didn't alway. I have reset mine several time. I know it's more expensive, but the nicon 950p keeps calling. I need the reach. Do you have a compare me video for the 2?

    Thanks for doing this, I'd heard it had been released. I wish it had weather sealing and a fully articulated screen. I'm toying with the idea of buying a used FZ300 for travel. Do you have any insight on if that model might be refreshed? I had the FZ150 for over 12 years and loved it.

      Hi, I have not heard any rumors about any new models, the FZ300 or otherwise. Of course, this FZ80D came out of left field so we will never know but I dont think there is a rush for Panasonic to replace the FZ300 since its still currently being sold. The FZ80 was discontinued a while ago, and I think that was a clue something new was coming. Thanks for your comment.

    Small typo: I'm sure you meant to say P950 and P1000 are Nikon, not Panasonic, but definitely nice to see that feature on the FZ80. Also, the FZ80D like its early version FZ80/82, does have RAW, and you can definitely get a bit better processing out of the raw files even with these small sensors. Plus, bring it into Lightroom or comparable software and using AI / neural net algorithms to eliminate noise, almost makes these old/new cameras more feasible.
    I've owned FZ200/300/1000 and they are all excellent. I do like the the quality of life features in the FZ80D, but like Leica's new D-Lux 8, wish they added a bit more in. Given the price of used cameras on the market, it is no wonder why manufactures are rehashing some old tech and also bringing them into compliance with EU standards.

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  3 місяці тому +1

      Hey there, thanks for correcting me on those mistakes! Much appreciated. Yes I was kind of surprised as well on the Leica DLux 8 that it was also just a refresh --I would suspect to save on costs, they are not doing a full revamp of these cameras unless it can be shown they are in demand!

    • @malfunkt
      @malfunkt 3 місяці тому

      @@techtoremember8096 the D-Lux 8 is almost worth imo! Considering a used LX100II is going for over half the price of a new D-Lux 8. The new D-Lux, like the FZ80 has a better screen/EVF but it looks like they have been very thoughtful about the design, controls and UI to make it very Q-like.
      I've read that the decade's old lens in the LX100/D-Lux probably wouldn't be able to take advantage of the newer M4/3 25mp sensor, and even a few more megapixels won't drastically improve the image quality. Apparently, the D-Lux is more efficient for battery life, so that is good.
      I would love to see a revamped RX10IV, though I wonder if that Zeiss lens could still be manufactured? It seems like Sony has all but abandoned the small point and shoot / travel zoom market.
      I had a chance to use an FZ300 again and was surprised how well it's sharpness could keep up with an APS-C superzoom lens like the Tamron 18-300. The latter still being more flexible, with better manual control over the zoom. Would be great to see an FZ300D or even FZ400! I might buy that camera.

    I'm struggling to decide between this and the Nikon p950, what is your recommendation? do you think there is much difference in terms or quality, capturing moving targets and how they handle lower light conditions for wildlife photography?

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  Місяць тому +1

      Hi there. I do think the Nikonp950 has superior image quality. It is quite a bit heavier and more expensive but if you can afford it, or don't mind carrying the extra weight its definitely better. Better optics, better lens. The AF however isn't great (on either) at extreme zoom, ..Low light also isn't great but the NIkon is a bit better.

    don't understand why these camera cos are discontinuing super zooms. Sure smart phones have generally killed off the camera market but no camera can do what super zoom cameras can. Also after Nikon discontinuing their p1000 , all of a sudden I see heightened interest for his camera, with high demand in the 2nd hand market.I've heard people selling their used cameras for even higher than they paid brand new.

    I've bought one of these, for it's compactness and zoom. I've realised it was a mistake already. Very noisy photos, the zoom, yes it's quite good, but the images are terrible. I know as a photographer with Nikon Z cameras I'm probably a little spoiled. But for a new camera, frankly it's a terrible thing. It's more like a toy. I wish I'd done more research. Good points, the only good points are the price (but expensive for a toy), zoom, compactness. Downsides, poor quality images, (which is paramount with any camera). Images are soft, zoomed images are terrible. You'll be better off buying a decent second hand DSLR or mirrorless camera.

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  Місяць тому

      I understand what you are saying. From your frame of reference with a Nikon Z, yes its not going to touch it. Some people are not as fussy and denoise and post process their images to improve the quality. For people that are into birding and wildlife, having that extreme zoom in such a compact package is worth the compromises.
