- Quirky London Walks 2: Lincoln's Inn Fields | Holborn | Polish Vodka Bar and much much more!!!
If you want to do a short London walk but pack a lot in then this is perfect.
It is hardly surprising that Lincoln's Inn Fields is referred to as a "Square of Wonders". It has two of London's most fascinating museums. The Hunterian Museum which is full of weird medical implements and the skeleton of a giant, and then there's the Sir John Soane's Museum which is full of ancient artifacts.
Everywhere in London seems to have a story about Nell Gwynn who was King Charles' mistress and loved by Londoners. You can also find The Old Curiosity Shop as immortalised by Charles Dickens.
Lincoln's Inn is the oldest of the legal chambers and there is also my favourite Polish Vodka Bar.
Learn about the old tram stations in Holborn too.

Thanks everyone....one of thee days I'll be a star!!!!!!!
Today I was reading the journal my wife wrote 35 years ago on this date. I saw many pictures taken of her outside The Old Curiosity Shop, Lincoln's Fields, High Holburn, etc. I have these wonderful memories still, but she is now in Heaven. We loved London, and I do to this day. Now if I could only find someone to fund me I would take another look!
I could walk London for a month straight listening to your witty yarns and ghoulish stories. Im not sure the walk home at the end would be without mishap however given all those pubs and places to kill a thirst. Your channel is bloody brilliant mate. Keep it up.
Thanks Allan. Yes, I think I have quality subscribers too! Although I don't have the numbers they are very cool people!
I love the fact you like one of my favourite old haunts, literally one of the best Polish bars in London
I'm Irish but I absolutely love Joolz videos!
So glad to have discovered your channel. You’re a little ray of sunshine ☀️
Cheers Russell! Those are very kind words. Although I'm 6'6" so I often block out the sun for many people when I stand over them!
Extra points for spotting the David Bowie and Blackadder references!
I care Julian! Your videos are amazing!keep up the great work! For people like me on a limited budget and who love England...your videos are very wonderful.
I grew up in London and never knew about these two museums. Thank you. :-)
Oh great!
So I was struggling to remember the names of the inns of court. It's Middle Temple, Inner Temple, Grays Inn and Lincoln's Inn. I ought to know since my dad was at Inner Temple!! Whoops!
I absolutely adore the video and now that I know of the Polski Bar I will definitely take my friends there for some nice pierogi and bigos. Can't wait!!! Thanks for putting a spotlight on this local gem!
Every video is absolutely amazing
‘It’s hol, as in holes’… love it when you reference Bowie
I hate to admit it but I love your videos. I must have been 30 times in London but being a silly foreigner, I’m completely fascinated by all these anecdotes and interesting corners of my favourite city in Europe.
In other words: I give up. I subscribed.
Loved the David Bowie Reference... and the walk was as always interesting & fun
Thanks. i love references to Bowie, Blackadder or Withnail!
The best weeks of my life were spent in London and your videos help me relive them. So much love.
You're very welcome!
Joolz , I play this game in my head about people in the public eye - ‘would I like them in real life?’ You’re a definite ‘yes!’
Watching Goodnight Sweetheart was great.
Fascinating tour Julian. We are loving your work!
Great! Yes, I like this video. I'm glad it's getting views still!
Thanks for your videos. Love to visit London and this shows me how much I need to see when I'm walking. You have given me many ideas of areas to investigate - and well done with the concise and well made and structured videos.
That's kind of you. Thanks.
I do enjoy your occasional romp through British comedy for parts of your commentary!
Love your videos. Very informative and great narration Julian. Keep it up!!
As always, informative and entertaining.
I also watch Ask a Mortician. Both Jeremy Bentham and Charles Byrn have separate "iconic corpse" videos. I had no idea they were both in London (obvi was paying half attention to her vids lol).
Brilliant as usual! I love the little area maps to put us in the picture.
Oh ! Great to learn about this places I wonder around........So much information.....Thanks.
I lived in the area for almost 10 years and really appreciated all the tidbits of information (I thought I knew most of the stories about the area, but you focused mainly on things I didn't know - really brilliant! Apparently, the upstairs Drawing room at the Soane, where the gift shop is, is painted Turner Yellow - the patented favourite colour of his good friend JMW. A real pity they didn't let you film there! Also, really sad about the Irish giant!!) Would love to see more videos in the area too - the whole neighbourhood and surroundings neighbourhoods are so rich with stories and history. By the way, I've seen almost all of your films - the first one I saw was your Pitcairn film a long while back - I really loved that one - you're great storyteller and a real adventurer!!! and I've really loved all the rest too! Keep up the great work. I'm a massive fan!
Your videos have entertained me through out all of 2020, thank you Julian. Happy New Year (2021)
Just found your wonderful videos today. I love England, and enjoy learning about places I can dream about visiting one day!! Thank you!
Cheers! Yes, do come. You will be very welcome.
Great! I really enjoyed watching your Harry Potter London guided tour:) and can't wait to watch more. Now preparing an online corona virus school break class from it:) Have known London since 1988 but still haven't known all the shown nooks. Really appreciate watching it!
You are truly brilliant.....................
I liked your videos when I first saw them last year. I think your videos are getting even better. Good work and God bless.
Enjoyed the tour amazing how many times I’ve been to Holborn and I still haven’t seen the old curiosity shop
I'm really enjoying these longer videos.
Watching in Dec 2020! Lol
Merry Christmas to all!
I'm constantly surprised that this channel doesn't have 10 times more subscribers.
Keep filming! I do enjoy these.
Thanks. I'll do my best!
massive thanks for this video this was so informative
Thanks! Yes, one of my favourites actually. I think the museum is closed for refurbishment at the moment though.
Love this guy.
Good camera. Quirky patter. Tight editing. I was merely researching the park and found your splendid piece of work. Thank you for sharing such a fine little film.
Thanks Danial. Yes, do please share it and tell people. I think it needs more views! Glad you liked it!
love love these walks so good and so glad you do walk tours for future reference nice to know brilliant XUK
Thanks Diane. Yes, only bespoke private walks at the moment but get in touch if you fancy one!
thanks Joolz, I do enjoy your videos as there's always something new to learn. I was pleased to see that the Bar Polski also served traditional polish grub, good idea .
Yes indeed. It's one of my favourite places. Good portions!
I like to visit Novelty Automation when I am in this neighborhood. Great place!
Love the Blackadder reference at 6:06
It was great to meet you today Julian! keep up the good work!
Thanks Anthony. Good meeting you too! So glad you liked Take Me To Pitcairn!
After I left school I went for a job as Assistant Gardener in Lincoln's Inn Fields. You get this tiny but beautiful flat overlooking the quad! Still one of my favorite places in London and I organized two film shoots there later on in my life! Love it!.
Wonderful. My sister was a park keeper in similar parks. Must be lovely.
I didn't get the job - went to college and ended up with a career in film production management. Every now and then I go back and have a sandwich in the quad!
I love your passion for London and its history. If I move back there soon I will defo be looking out for all the Quirky things you point out
Thanks. Yes, I keep discovering new stuff too. I guess there's always new stuff to find.
If I move back to London I might book a guide.. Or even help if you were ever unable to find a camera man aha
Both sound good to me!
Binge watching your channel right now. ..really enjoy it
Hi Joolz, not sure if it is still there but in the sir john soane museum when you enter there is a mark on the right wall with a plastic cover over it, and this was a Ricochet from a gun when someone tried to break in and rib the place, years ago, that is why they always had a security guard sitting just inside to protect the family living in there.
Thank you
Cool these maps.
Hmmm the rightwingers again. Was already wondering where the stench derived from.
Bar Polski on the end! Love it! :) Receive my regards Julian! :)
Goodnight Sweetheart 😊 lovely song! Who remembers the the BBC series??
FoolOfaTook: yes love the thought of turning a corner & going back in time♡♡
Thanks Julien, these videos are awesome! Currently studying in London as a History Student from New Zealand. From a young age I have always been into quirky history. I always save your video locations onto my Google maps and get very excited if I'm out and about and see that I am near a wacky thing!! Have you picked up a copy of Jamie Manner's 'The Seven Noses of Soho'? Would recommend for even more quirky places! Hope to catch you while your out and about in London!
Please keep up the videos!!
Cheers
- Holly
Thanks! Do you mean this nose? I made a film about one of them. ua-cam.com/video/c5GT2go7yaw/v-deo.html
By the way, to save you the trouble of saving on google maps you can just look at the joolz guides map locations! joolzguides.com/map/
Brilliant
That little story about Nell Gwynne calling to her son because he didn’t have a proper title had me crying with laughter!
Just found you and I have subscribed, great stuff
Great! Thanks!
Thoroughly enjoyable. I like these walks. One minor amendment, though. The Inns of Court are for barristers in England and Wales, not for 'lawyers in Britain'.
Cheers Alan. Gosh, I should really know that. My dad was a barrister in Temple Inn!! Yes, my films aren't without the odd gaff but it's good to be put right.
Julian, it's either Middle Temple or Inner Temple - not Temple Inn!
Yes! That's right! I was struggling to recall and I always get confused about them.
I thought that Joolz said 'lawyer' to cater to or help inform an international audience too who may not know who barristers are - he definitely deserves a wide international audience! :-)
Thanks for bailing me out! Actually I'm not really an expert in the field. I was just speaking vaguely but yes, also I suppose there wasn't the need to be too precise. Embarrassing though as my dad was actually a barrister at Inner Temple!
The Huntarian is my favourite as well. I always stay in Hilvarenbeek when visiting London
Love your videos!
Isnt Hilvarenbeek near Tilburg?
versnellingspookie
Yes, no idea what happened. I meant Holborn
6:35 bluebells ♡♡
been to many places you have covered yet I have missed so much you have shown me, thanks, lovin all ya posts
Thank you Stuart. There is something around every corner it seems.
keep it up, I am a fan now, want to take my Julie to Barkley Square next time, was one street away last Tuesday was there for my birthday,
The American declaration of independence was drafted at the Landsdowne club there!
ua-cam.com/video/xTeiYN_Vq6E/v-deo.html singing about the same place ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Love your City walks, and your quirky sense of humour mate. Can you do one on the Krays Bros hangouts, (Blind Beggar Pub etc) and Jack The Ripper, Please
Great blackadder ad-lib just found you great vids.
Love the videos bro, big inspiration to learn more about my city. Thanks.
The fields inn and a pyramid fact is not true though but I'm sure you already know that by now
Yep, I gather you were seriously irritated by the Ship Tavern too. So is everyone
I Love your show, i watch old or new ones every night , Just wish you loved Opera and Jazz, and any good singer.73 year old Derek sings on you tube, can be found under that name, don't know how to bo links to bloody old to learn.,Love your show.
Okay I get it I thought you said his skull was there.Great stuff keep it up
Julian, since you like odd museums, does the museum The London Dungeon still exist? If I recall correctly it was by Westminster bridge. It is both a fascinating and extremely well-done museum. If you have never been there, and it still exists, it is a must-see!
Excellent guide and I'm very happy to have discovered your channel, thanks to Daniel Tijuana Gringo.
Thanks! I like that video too. I'm glad people are watching that one!
the mistress story loooool 😂😂😂😂😂😂
It amazes me how all these little museums throw you out! Don't they know that if we got just a little GLIMPSE of what's in there they will see their attendance double, at least?
Hey! It was so nice (and super exciting) to meet you earlier. Keep up the amazing work! I'm looking forward to more content from south of the river. All the best!
Thanks Jennifer. You cheered me up. I was having one of those days. I shall endeavour to bend my steps south in the future!!
"Pit the embryo" Oh man you really are a laugh totally enjoy your work.
It’s the Blackadder reference.
London must have more great buildings than the entire U.S.!
very educational channel. i've learned that should I visit london I shall need an umbrella and spend 4oo pounds on a bowler hat. Maybe a pound on pajamas for the stroll around/
Holborn Station as featured in Only Fools and Horses. Two comments with a Nicholas Lyndhurst connection.
Amazing video’s glad I have found your channel
Cheers William! Yes, I just hit 10 000 subscribers so I'm finally making some progress.
We didn’t have any chimney....I grew up in a council flat. Lol.
hard to beat black adder lol
hello... great videos! do you do walking tours?
HI Sam. Yes, why don't you contact me on my website joolzguides.
I cant remember how many times I fell out of the Polish Vodka Bar when I worked in Holborn
No ..... I mean, I literally cant remember ;-P
I just went to Google maps and found out the Hunterian museum is permanently closed?? Watching this video really made me want to go there :(
Oh dear...that is rather a pity. I think that they are just doing some extensive renovations and it will re-open in the future, but not for a while yet. I hope they don't move location. I just made that film!
You forgot no 66. One of the most historic (Newcastle House).
Absolutely fabulous house. Now my solicitor's office and rather wasted on them.
@@mscott3918 Queen's personal solicitors, aAssociated with Dickens, Jane Austen, et al
@@abicat6158 Yes indeed, Farrer and Co. Also solicitors to Coutts.
@@mscott3918 Yep...had my desk on first floor many moons ago
🤗👌👍👏👏👏👏
You are OK!
Love your videos but just a small quibble. Thatcher was a honorary member of Lincolns Inn as she was never a lawyer unlike Blair
I'm going to London May 2020... But the Huntarian museum is closed for renovations until 2021 :(
I thought the town of sherborne was what would have named sherborne Lane, since sherborne has been around since like 700AD
at 5.26 i couldnt help but think you was walking upto the coronation thrown
Yes! I don't notice!!! It looks so similar!!!!
A love me some bigos!
One doth look a little pissed at the end. Hehehe
Ha ha.....funny that.
Inns of Court are only for English barristers, not British lawyers. Scot’s law is different and we have Advocates who are heard in the High Courts in Scotland and have no requirement to join an Inn of Court.
I always thought Elephant Man's skeleton was in Whitechapel Hospital?
Yes, it is. Did I say it was here? I think they have a skull of someone with a similar condition or maybe I'm just being vague and general to give an idea of the sort of stuff they have. In my Jack The Ripper video I actually include the elephant man actually.
It's there but you can't see it any more as they've gone all politically correct.
Can you do a dcc on Alverstoke??
what was that song at 2:30?
That's from my sister's album! You can find it here! lillostlou.com/
Hey joolz I enjoy your walkabouts but some of your stories are bit too tall me thinks....but no matter you are very entertaining...
🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱
Żywiec is the best !
Allegedly there was a Nell Gwyn strip club in Soho in the 80s
