This one mayor in USA woke me up when he said he went to visit the islands one time and was surprised that we are all divided by oceans,islands and tribal groups and beliefs, at the end of the day we all united with one flag. My advice to you as a Filipino living here in the islands, is that as a foreigner trying to build a structure, you will get exposed to scammers due to language barrier and as you mentioned lack of construction knowledge. Would be preferable if you had a Filipino friend whom you can trust to act as a mediator or negotiator on your behalf who knows construction. Best of Luck!

Very sorry to hear what you’d been through while constructing your own home. Nowadays scammers are everywhere and will always rip you off, and of course this is not just happening in the Philippines. I have my own home built here in Australia and I swear I could have punched some people for treating me like I’m idiot. But that emotional turmoil has passed now. What I see now is the reward of all those troubles because my humble house is now gaining popularity among home buyers. I see why you can’t see the same benefits especially now that Siargao is making its name to the world.

Throw your old tok tok away, it's beyond repair. Do not spend too much money on useless things. Filipino layman mechanics will promise you anything, only to tell you after spending millions of money "because it's already old". Do not believe what promises they tell you, it will end up a "double dead" situation.
There are foreigners who build their house in the PH. Sunshine Shoulders (American), FinnSnow (Icelandic) to name a few. They also have their own struggles if you listen their own story in UA-cam.

Filipinos are great people but they think that because u live in another country U got lots off money electricity is 30 odd dollars more a month every bill gone up im lucky with my tiny house in Philippines i know the people for 16 years who built it
DON'T REPAIR THAT TUKTUK! The mechanic is just saying that he can repair it because it will require lots of work and will make him lots of money. Just look at the chasis of that tuktuk. It's already eaten by rust. You're basically going to be building an entire tuktuk from scratch. You might as well just get a 2nd hand tuktuk and get it painted with Jurassic park again

for some good reason maybe only God knows how and what you are dealing now..skeptical and suffered from emotional trauma about building this house yet you are resilient in doing it continuing it despite the depressing experiences in aiming this thing but as you've said it's there already just enjoy and embrace the life you are facing now.

Thank you for sharing the troubles you went through in building your house. I understand about your experience being a homeowner myself having dealt with dishonest contractors here in the US. There will always be expenses related to maintenance so keep that in mind. Really love your house and your dog and chickens. Hopefully the kitchen will be enclosed with a glass door in the future.

I feel you man, my goodness, I could not imagine how you experienced. Man when I’ve been home and went to moalboal, it was expensive to go around and even I was a Filipino, they asked so much more I should pay because my husband is a foreigner and people just took advantage of you.
Filipinos are great people but they think that because u live in another country U got lots off money electricity is 30 odd dollars more a month every bill gone up im lucky with my tiny house in Philippines i know the people for 16 years who built it

DON'T REPAIR THAT TUKTUK! The mechanic is just saying that he can repair it because it will require lots of work and will make him lots of money. Just look at the chasis of that tuktuk. It's already eaten by rust. You're basically going to be building an entire tuktuk from scratch. You might as well just get a 2nd hand tuktuk and get it painted with Jurassic park again
