This song is bloody timeless! Still sounds fresh and original in the year of our Lord 2024. Watching this on TOTP back in the day was my bi awakening...girls with guitars 😻
She was in relationship with Brett Anderson from Suede and later on with Damon Albarn from Blur! Damn they both showed their gratitude of her because of her influence!
@@DrT0705 She now lives in America. Since they shot Elastica’s music video for their song “Stutter”, in San Francisco she had always wanted to move to California. She now lives in California. She also said in another interview, which you can find here in UA-cam btw, that she felt that America is more open minded towards artistic people much more than the people in England. She is now a painter, and has opened art galleries in all of the West Coasts states.
That was bizzare.Shared a train ride to Bromley once with Michelle.Very pleasent journey made better for me as she was wearing a black see through t-shirt!Gutted when my stop came....i could not stop having a sneaky peak,i was still a virgin lol!😊😊😊
Sadly, I remember that not all of my fellow Americans were as enamored as I was (and still am) with Justine, Donna, Annie, and Justin, when they first hit the airwaves over here in the States; the local commercial Alternative station (KNDD-FM in Seattle) was playing "Connection" fairly regularly from the time it appeared over here, which I always looked forward to. As an Industrial Design major at Uni in northern Washington State, in between winter and spring quarters, our program made our annual tour of various design studios on the West Coast to meet with active professionals. In 1995, we hit the road as a group, headed down to San Francisco and the Bay Area for our week-long studio tour for that year. One of the stops we made in San Fran was at a rather well-known (now defunct) purveyor of rather pricey and avant-garde furnishings/interior design, where coincidentally, "Connection" came on over their stereo system whilst we were there. One of the staffers, who fronted like they were also of the sort into the alt-music scene, audibly remarked negativity about the band and this song. I clearly recall thinking that they were a bit of a nonce, and my impression of the firm diminished a few ticks after overhearing that. 😄
There was a phase around that time when it seemed that whenever me and my girlfriend were out and about we'd see Donna and she'd usually look completely fucked .
Love this song and love covering it on my guitar, but one thing stands out that bothers me. Why are they not actually playing and is just a track. It's like watching an amateur band play Connection. Wtf. They can pull it off live.
In some ways you Brits are the coolest…best rock crowds on earth…but then this fake-playing that Top of the Pops forced bands to do…and this went on throughout the 90s. It’s dumbness. At least Nirvana put this show in its place…but that was three years before this video.
So funny how the guitars and bass are not plugged in, would it of sounded as good if they had of used their instruments, I did not see it but I guess the Marshall on the drums were off too, so it begs the question TOTP, or either Elastica were not good live Remember they only managed 1 album, in my days nothing was ever live even though you got told, if guitars and bass are not plugged in its fake.
TOTP forced all the bands who appeared there to do a lip synch performance. I'm not sure of the rationale behind it. There's a famous performance of Nirvana where Kurt Cobain actively takes the piss out of this directive, and makes it clear to anyone watching that they weren't playing live and he wasn't singing. Look it up if you fancy a laugh!

Great song, still sounds good 2023.
Still rocks in 2024! Oh, God - 30 years ago...now I feel old.
I was really into this tune back in the 90’s
I used to play it on my guitar!

What a bloody awesome woman! I don't know what she's doing now, but I hope she's happy and healthy, because she did the thing in the 90s 🤩

@@I_Have_The_Most_Japanese_Music It would appear so.....!!!! Lol
Great t.o.t.p performance, very cool band, hope they do a reunion one day.
Love these guys xx
The 90's... Best decade ever.
Why's that?
Remember seeing this on TOTP that night. Couldn't get it out my head the whole week!
Justine is a big fan of 70s punk band Wire. The opening of Connection is from the Wire song Three Girl Rhumba.
Yeah man 👍
And they got sued lol
So so good! Real rock and roll!

I was a big fan of them as well I’m from New York
use of "nonce" recursive for me here
Out here in Los Angeles area, KROQ played them regularly and they were a well loved band. I loved Connection, but Stutter was my absolute favorite.
👍

you had to lip sync on TOTP
Look.....dua lipa !
Dua lipa can’t beat this band
i’m sorry but it’s so obvious that it’s lip-synced 😭 she’s doing a terrible job trying to hide it LMAO
It was Top of the Pops. 99% of it wasnt live.
