The French Quarter is my favorite spot to visit, and I never realized how much is there that I actually missed since most of it is more appealing to visitors! Usually I like catching the sounds of the street performances and visiting the vampire shop! The shop is actually way off from the rest of the shops i usually visit but I adore that little shop, I even was fortunate enough to get myself a pair of top and bottom fangs that are custom fit to my teeth! I also attended my first ever pride parade in the French Quarter, which is why you may see rainbow flags hung up on some stores! Those flags tell parade goers that the shop is lgbt friendly if I'm not mistaken. Fun fact, during category 4-5 hurricanes (such as Katrina or Ida) some people can be out of electricity and even water for months! Recently when Ida hit us I got a taste of that myself, as I was too young to remember Katrina when it happened. It certainly can be a traumatizing experience to sit through one of them, especially if you've never been in a category 4 before. Personally, I got hit by the eye of the storm and some places STILL haven't fully recovered from it.
I was working for Academy when New Orleans was Flooded. I volunteered to get there for a relief team and when i tell you It was the most saddest site to see people loose so much and be hopeless. I met some of the most kindest people who had such amazing strength in such a hard time. Im glad they have flood house and Musuem as a reminder of what New Orleans went through and how they bounced back from it. This is just a reminder of how precious is and how at flip of dime everything can change in a second. Another great Vlog Jacob.
This is why I love our city. Great vid Jacob and I’m happy you had a great time! ⚜️ the city is quiet now but not not for long. Mardi Gras is about to get going in about a month.
I lived in Chalmette,Louisiana for a long time.its right outside the French quarter and the entire area was submerged and now after hurricane Isaac if you go past Chalmette and the "Wall of death" and go to plaquamines parish the whole area looks like a museum of a ghost town. No residents and boats and houses up in trees. Nature is truly impressive.
Ohhh, you finally got me on my first trip to New Orleans. What an absolutely beautiful city that is. Maintaining its own special character since it began. With a long history of hardship and its most recent terrible hit with Katrina. The images you showed give strong reminders of the St. Elisabeth flood in the Netherlands 1953. My mom and various people from her generation told stories on how they were confiscated to help cleaning up all the flooded houses, drowned animals and associated work. Stories told also of the immense support in men and machines from our war allies: the americans and canadians. Without them we'd be lost. i don't think i would succeed in living permanently in New Orleans, but i would revisit frequently since there is so much special to see. Does anything come after New Orleans? Yes, West to go my friends, go with the sun and the big ocean. This was a magical episode for me Jacob, thank you so much!
Besides the fact that all of your adventures are super entertaining, I end up learning so much history from them! Very grateful for your channel. Also seeing the hurricane Katrina exhibit was very sad but eye opening as well, really puts it into deeper perspective
