- What if Ben Solo survived through the end of The Rise of Skywalker? Although fan’s reactions to the apparent death of Ben Solo vary greatly across the fandom, the majority of people seem to agree that it would have been better to keep the last living Skywalker alive for the supposed conclusion of the Skywalker saga. In this video, I present the arguments from both sides of this debate and explain how things may have played out for Ben Solo if he had lived.

It was a horrible decision to kill Ben. They didn't trust the audience and chose the easy way out. Love all your ideas on this.

I will never forgive Disney for what they did to Ben Solo. Ben and Rey deserved to rule the galaxy together.

@whateverwhatever4476 I liked Finn's character, but I always thought Rey and Ben would have made an intriguing couple. Unfortunately the trilogy barely skimmed the top of character exploration.
Hux:killed a lot of people but then betrayed the First Order

Kylo/Ben: killed a lot of people but then fight against Palpatine
Resistance: kill him, kill him now
I was thinking about that lol. Hux was actually responsible for a lot more damage than Kylo was. Like I said though, Kylo is an extremely powerful being (and he’s also a main character), so his presence seems more devastating to the audience on the surface.
@@StarWarsLab what if Finn believed Rey when she said that Ben is now a good man. I mean he sensed her death so maybe he believed her when she said Ben brought her back from death. And if he believed Rey, then maybe Poe did too. And because the two are the new Generals their words are realy important and have a big impact to what the resistance would do with him.
Actually, i don't believe the whole First Order is dead. I mean their know the unknown regions better than the Resistance and could just disapeare and return when their have new Troups and a Plan.
And because Ben was a member of the First Order, he knows the unknown regions a little bit too and could lead the Resistance to them so their destroy the first Order ones and for all.
Plausible this is. Meditate on it I must.

I never agreed with the part of the argument that Ben Solo had to die because of what he did as Kylo Ren. It would have been more interesting to see how he would've gone on with his life, what kind of journey he would have had after years of darkness. The novelization states that Ben had forgiven his father, and he considered the possibility that given enough time he might learn to forgive himself.
If Darth Revan from Legends gets to live long after leading a war against the Jedi and Old Republic, I think Lucasfilm could have found some way to continue Ben Solo's story instead of killing him off.
He would have died after reviving Rey, but then Leia would sacrifice her remaining lifeforce to bring him back, which is why she vanished and Maz Kanata was smiling afterwards. This version was heavily speculated to be the main story after TROS was released, but Disney changed it last minute to have them go together. Great video, new subscriber :)

Ben solo’s actions remind me a lot of Bucky Barnes/ the Winter Soldier.
They both were under manipulations and they made some fucked up actions but managed to redeem themselves.
The Winter Soldier was preserved and frozen (I think) because of how dangerous he was and he understood that. Why couldn’t they just keep Ben in some locked up prison until he could further prove himself to the public?

The difference was, Bucky was programmed and drugged. I just don't think Ben endured enough to warrant his actions.

Nope James was different he was tortured, drugged and being controlled. Ben on the other hand had free will although he was being manipulated he still had a freedom to chose.

I live in the US, and after the terrible week we've had it's such a relief to have someone who's able to give both sides to an argument, admit that both sides have a point, and no body is wrong for being on either side of the fence. Now if only more people over here were more like that🤦

I love your idea of keeping it more open ended. Like, Ben tells Rey he has to live in exile, but that she shouldn't follow him, and she's just kind of like, "Yeah, whatever, man, see you in our next ForceSkype." Then as time goes on she ends up finally beginning her Jedi school on some middle of nowhere planet, and Ben joins her, but no one knows who he is, so it's fine. I don't know. It's like you said, the possibilities would've been endless that way. But noooo. They just had to kill him and destroy my happiness. 😠 Love your analysis, as usual.
One thing that should be noted is that kylo ren doesn't have yellow eyes. He may be using the dark side, but I don't think he truly embraced it like Anakin or Maul. I think he may be like Dooku in the sense that he thought he was working for the greater good
I've pointed this out, too. There appears to be no true darkside corruption with Kylo Ren.

Seriously, I think Ben Solo should have lived. He’d have probably lived in exile all his life, but I’m ok with that. It’s not a happy ending or a sad ending.
I love the Bad Boys connection you made and I had a similar reaction. I do have one idea that I want to share about how they could continue Ben's story even with him no longer in the physical world.
If Ben is technically still alive through the Dyad and he's physically in Mortis he could act like the Hades of the Star Wars universe. Being the ruler of the land of the dead, but still interacting with the mortal world on occasion when the story allows it.
Your alternate endings make so much more sense than what we saw in the movie. Nice closure. When I watched TROS in the cinema, basically after I realized that Ben Solo was a goner and Rey was alone, I felt so unsatisfied that I just couldn’t bring myself to care about whatever was happening next in the movie. The ending just felt so cheap, forced, fake. I wish I could have any of ur alternate endings over what we got, and so be finally satisfied.

Han Solo shot first and went back to a life of crime when he didn’t need to. How ironic that he would have been about the same age as Han was when he met Leia, when he met Rey. The books do a much better job of showing how hard it was for Ben to be a Darkside user. He’s aim is to create a more just galaxy for everyone to live in because he’s been convinced that authoritarianism is the only real way to achieve peace in the galaxy. He’s not so different from his mother in his aim either.
Finn felt Rey die and he felt her come back. He would have believed Rey when she told him about Ben. Finn could have convinced Poe. That’s all it would have taken for Rey to live a life with Ben in it. It was totally set up for Ben - who yearned to teach Rey - to become the teacher of the next iteration of the “jedi”. Almost like it was a planned story arc. And then they just didn’t.
If Ben had lived we could explore some more nuanced aspects of the light vs dark side of the Force. He's felt the power of the dark side, the temptation would always be there but each day he could make the choice to embrace the light. Even though balance has been restored to the Force, I'm sure there are many situations where he could defend those who are in dire situations.
Very interesting ideas. I agree that Ben should have been left alive, but at the same time I can understand why they would kill him off.

Great video!!! I agree with everything you said...we could have seen Ben's remorse and feelings towards Rey not wanting to condemn her to a life by his side. Redemption doesn't necessarily equal death, so I believe it wouldn't have sent a bad message to have him survive.

I hate that they killed him. He went to the light and saved Rey after the death of her grandfather. I feel like he still lives with in Rey considering they were one. I still like him to alive in person and with Rey.
while I want ben to be alive I kinda saw that that's the price he had to pay for giving up his life to the dark side, although I would love to see that they finally do become one they both are two that are now one. The force dyad is one of the most inter3sting thing in Star Wars to me
Well.... I could imagine the following story: there could exist a powerful dark villains, that Rey isn`t able to defeat alone- and she is the last hope for the resistance... she fells, that she is too weak and is going to die when she faces them alone and than.... she has a vision: she is surprised: Ben must in the World Between Worlds...somehow she felt it that he isn`t completely gone, but she didn`t believed it. She is telling it to Finn and Poe: he is our last hope: he saved me killing Snoke and he gave his life for mine after defeating Palpatine, without him I wouldn`t exist... and that must be Lea, that pulled him to the WBW... and I miss his smile, his warmth - I miss Ben, Ben saved me, Ren doesn`t exist any more. And they are fine with it.... Rey is bringing Ben back.... they are making love till the dawn...and then they a rushing to help the resistance.....and they are lucky: they are just in time......Ben is fighting with Rey together. It is amazing to see a dyad fighting together in harmony... Ben and Rey are saving many lives.... ...Ben is savin Finn, Poe and childrenand she constantly helps Rey on the battlefield...... and than one of the dark villain is coming....he wanted to kill Rey...he attacted Rey.... but suddenly he is surprised..... that tiny, brave woman is not alone....Ben is helping Rey and fighting against the villain... tha dark villain is trying to escape....and Ben has to let him escape, because Rey got a little bit wounded...Finn and other friends a watching......Ben is sayin: don`t be afrais: we are won`t lose her. He is closing his eyes, touching her womb and then Rey is openiong her eyes again:-))))))))) Everybody is crying.... and Rey is saying: Ben I love you...with all my heart, please never let me go. Ben is answering: I love you to with all of me ande I will be always there for you - I promise.. and then we see the second most beautiful star wars kiss. (The most beautiful star wars kiss wain my opinion that one after Reys 1st death)

TROS has a terrible ending. Still can't stand it especially that last shot of Rey alone with a droid "a not living thing" watching the sunrise of the Twin Suns.

Ciene Ree's ending from Lost Stars is a much better middleground. Highly recommend that book, easily my favorite Star Wars story.
He was still the Supreme Leader, he never relinquished the title. So Ben is still the legal leader of the galaxy and Rey is the rightful heir to the throne.

Ben Solo/Kylo Ren Is my favorite character in the world
Palpertine tells him that hes " been every voice hes ever heard" so we can assume thats been happening since Ben was a infant. Then that MAJOR plot point is completely ignored. Either address it or don't include it. Might have been a better way to bring him to the light if rey though the dyed found a way to severe that connection, making him less conflicted I mean he's tempted by the light anyway. Then maybe we could have had a few Ben solo scenes before the end of the movie
Poor kylo not just corrupted by snoke, betrayed by his uncle but littraly brainwashed by palpertine. Actually if you add that force dyad as well its a miracle that he can form any kind of coherent thought, his heads been FUCKED with so much.

But didn't you say in previous videos that you don't believe Ben died? I still have hope he is alive in the World Between the Worlds after Leia disappeared and saved him. That is my hope and many clues and hints point to that.
I don't agree it was fair to kill Ben Solo's character off. Not only because of the Reylo ship, but because, as you mentioned, his contributions to helping save the galaxy made a key difference. No one went with Rey to help confront Palpatine. He went after her. He knew he could have died but did it anyway. What a waste of a great character.

I disagree with you about the war crime thing because in the last jedi the big thing was was made of Luke bringing Vader back to the light. We have that redemption change things and the perception of him. Maybe that's because he died doing it however would know that with Ben.

Truth is coming back to the light side and helping Rey defeat the bullshitty resurrected Palpatine does not fix all the horrible atrocities Ben did as Kylo Ren. He would be arrested, tried, and convicted of his crimes and incarcerated for life or put to death.

Ben says “Oh my girl Rey i love you so much but cho dien so imma give up my life force to save you” gives up life force but his last words are “I love ya so much” after Rey survives she sees his body and crys she says “why did cho die Ben” yep thats how i hear it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

If I was Ben I would let them say there piece but be like I cat let u all just kill me Rey and the Jedi need a more experienced master to help finish Rey training and say I'll live out a life sentence on octu or tattoine or whatever but when they go to kill him don't kill anyone but they really stand no chance if Ben fights back just freeze blaster bolts and dip waving the peace sign. petra de vries stupid end of writers to let him die. it is a movie i wase hoping to see hem not dead but alive together with rey and do good things together and bring back his father and mother alive. carrie fisher is dead in real life. they will think about something how to do see that. in real live. he end 's up in prison. but people it is a fairytaile a sience fiction movie let it be a fantasi nothing more. the real world is hard enough. a movie nothing more. perhaps in another movie.
Looking at it objectively, they made the right decision.
