This Episode will be the last time you will hear Couch Ukai Jr.'s voice since the Actor (Kazunari Tanaka rest in peace) die. So starting Episode 9-10 i think if I recall there's no dialogue or scene of him talking.

That quote from Ukai always makes me tear up because I've been playing volleyball for over a decade and when I first heard that that's the first time I've ever seen volleyball as a sport where you're always looking up
Ushiwaka definitely did not acknowledge Hinata as a worthy opponent. He was getting annoyed by the fact that someone with essentially ZERO skill decided to set foot in opposition to him. He knows Hinata will get good eventually, but refuses to believe Hinata should beat him

He arguably has the most skill, being as short as he is and still being able to play at this level.
@@dylanleff373 Hinata definitely does not have the most skill. Even on his own team, his skills are below all the starters in almost every category. He makes up for his short stature, but he is not skilled at the game itself.
Tsutomu is probably the least skilled on the other side, and he clearly outclasses Hinata as well, meaning Hinata is the weakest starter on the floor.
Of course he has the potential to become skilled, but he currently has nothing that Ushiwaka acknowledges.

He's nowhere near worthy in Ushijima's eyes, much less his teammates and coach.
@@dylanleff373 No, I dont think he has the most skill, he lacks on so many things, plus without Kageyama on court, he wouldn't be able to do what he does.
Just look to Hoshiumi Kourai if you watched Season 4, he is 100% more skilled than Hinata being almost the same height.

or like after season 3 there is the OVA episodes of Nekoma, Fukurodani, Nohebi, and Itachiyama fighting against each other and going to nationals

Kazunari Tanaka's last words as Ukai's voice actor were "Don't you dare look down! Voleyball is a sport where you're always looking up!". Rest in peace man... He had an amazing voice. His career started in 1990 and ended in 2016 with his death. He died at the age of 49 of intracerebral hemorrhage. I love the character of Ukai, and I know he played many other roles, but this one was almost made for him... Hisao Egawa, the new voice actor, is doing a great job to replace him. I wish him good luck.

Coach Washijo is fixed on the idea that only tall and strong players can win. So he is trying to support his ideals by only gathering tall and strong players into Shiratorizawa (hence Ushijima and Satori). This is why Washijo looks at Hinata so many times throughout the match. He wants to crush Hinata to prove his ideal true: that only the tall and strong can win in volleyball.

Ushijima definitely did not acknowledge hinata as a worthy opponent. He just thought hinata would be skilled when he 1st saw him but was disappointed after seeing his actual performance. Hinata has good physical ability but his skills is definitely not good enough to be consider as a strong player, just not yet. Ushijima here is annoy by the fact that despite hinata does not have a good foundation for his skills, no height and power, he still somehow manage to put up a good fight against shiratorizawa.

Hinata and Tsukishima are annoying thorns at the back of Ushijima. Whoever is up front, either it's Hinata or Tsukki in vanguard. Ushijima is really annoyed by this two first years trying to stop him. About Hinata he doesn't see him as a worthy opponent but an annoying little runt that is confident to go toe-to-toe against him even though Hinata is actually just an athletic monster without any skill. Not just him but Coach Washijo too, that's why he wants strong and tall players, that flashback was 40 years ago and at that time small players like him or Hinata has no place in volleyball despite the fact that Quicks haven't been part of the game that's why small players are only positioned as liberos. This is the first time he felt annoyed to a player like Hinata.
RIP Kazunari Tanaka, Coach Ukai's VA. That's the best last words from him in this anime. Damn.
Kuroo, Tsuki's mentor, should be your third pick of blockers - hell, maybe your first.
