Do not confuse 'cultural diversity' with 'multiculturalism'. His point really is to respect and preserve cultural identity. The comments against multiculturalism are merely proving his point. Whether its indigenous cultures or 'christian': aren't these worth preserving?
Artur Terho So what is your suggestion? That we force foreigners out and start being intolerant of other races? If you ask me, that sounds cruel. And boring (as I like having a variety of people. Just having one culture and/or race is boring).
Artur Terho Again, what is your suggestion? That we go back to isolationism? That there should be no foreigners? Should I stop being friends with those who aren't my ethnicity? Do not get me wrong, I do agree that having completely different values isn't unity. However, as long as people, regardless of race and practices, can put aside their differences and work together, I don't mind. Again, are you suggesting that we go back to pre-civil rights days and become intolerant of one another?
Artur Terho I will say this: I agree that forced diversity is unneeded. I also see your point about foreigners owning parts of countries being an issue as that can potentially take away a country's identity (unless if the foreigner has adapted to the country's laws and culture as well as become a citizen of that country. I also don't mind if they simply own businesses).
The idea of preserving cultures IMO is a tough thing to do. Haven't cultures been shifting in the past generations and changes constantly. Languages die, shift, traditions fade and new ones are created. In addition new concepts of culture is added due to interaction of foreigners and so forth. I honestly don't think we can preserve everything. Humans progress and change overtime. It has been happening since the beginning of time. And I'm sure people don't want to adopt aspects of a culture that are outdated or morally wrong (i.e forced marriages).
John Mclane Yeah, but it is none of your business. My culture is a private matter. Individuals negotiate and mediate among themselves on common universal principles.
I like to use a pallet of paint as an analogy for multiculturalism. On their own, the colours of paint are vibrant, beautiful, defined and special. Some colours naturally blend together, to make new exciting shades and colours, when mixed correctly, these colours can really compliment each other. However, when it’s done wrong, whether that’s mixing paints that don’t go together, or mixing too many colours together without thought, the original colours begin to loose what made them special and loose their vibrancy and in the end, you’re left with a dull shade of brown in the middle, with no defining features, and nothing that makes it special. Then you realise the original colours have been mixed during the creation of the shade in the middle so now; there’s no reason to travel and experience these new colours as there is nothing special about them and no reason to go there
It's important to understand and appreciate cultural diversity. Every culture has its own beliefs, values, and traditions which make our world more diverse. There are a lot of assertions made in favour of cultural diversity in this talk, along with not so subtle hints that while all cultures are equally important the one that is imagined to be paramount (for now) is not; as evidenced by the also not so subtle snarky comments about the British and supposedly hapless Peruvians ( the soft bigotry of low expectations here I think). What evidence is there for cultural diversity leading to better outcomes? Is that a given? What if the British culture of global trade bringing quinine to the rest of the world is the only one? There is no substance though, at least it is not communicated.
Why are there whiners in the comment section? Historically most ethnic groups (with the exception of groups like the Amish) that immigrated to North America assimilated and intergrated at least by the 2nd or 3rd generation. Italians, Poles, Greeks, Jews, and Spaniards were once thought as "other" but they eventually assimilated, right? I know some 2nd and 3rd generation Japanese Americans and they are as American as apple pie.
This was a good talk. But on the flip side, if people from remote areas of the world have big dreams and want to advance themselves. They have to Westernize to some degree. But Gavin must also see how groups vie for control and this yearning for power is what causes cultural disrespect. But his general premise was good.
Big dreams? What like be a tech developer or Ceo of a Telecommunications company? These aren't attainable dreams for anyone. Big Dreaming should be A long safe life, happy family and living in harmony with ones surroundings and hopefully never having to deal with the probing finger of authority intervening.

I honestly couldn’t keep up with the video because of the comment section 😅 Legitimate question, if this happens to be seen, why are cultural diversity and unity seen as mutually exclusive? Additionally, what is the general definition of “unity” here? I feel like there isn’t a clear definition given of what unity means in this context. Do folks here feel that the respect and preservation of individual cultures in a society can’t also coincide with mutual respect and cooperation?
Why are they mutually exclusive?? Are you kidding? If that person next door doesn't share the same values I do, how can I trust that they won't kill me simply because I gave them a funny look. And when they have political protection, they get away with it. Or they change the law to make it possible for them to kill whoever they please

"Diversity of hues, form and shape enricheth and adorneth the garden, and heighteneth the effect thereof. His examples for why diversity was important had more to do with the geographical location of the people. Of course, the British didn't know about the plant that the people of Peru had because the British did not live there. It had nothing to do with the race, language, or culture of the people. It had to do with the fact that the plants were on the other side of the world.
This is all well and true. But what wasn't mentioned was the fact that the world is becoming a much smaller place. Those who don't appreciate that will get left behind with the rapid growth and change in cultures throughout the world. Change is inevitable, and we shouldn't resist it, but embrace it as its how we will develop as a species.

Other then getting a sun tan I can't do much to make the world more 'diverse'. He said nothing inspirational or actionable so I'm left wondering what the point of this was.
I’m of Irish descent. What I didn’t know until recently was the history of Irish enslavement. No I’m not talking about the commonly known version of indentured servitude. But the harsh reality of generational slavery. So, why is this important you ask? There can be no question that slavery is front and foremost in the minds of academia and the social justice warriors. Now, imagine how different our society would be if we had taught how whites were enslaved by whites. There is also another part of this era that isn’t discussed “ impressment “. Where our US Navy actually abducted men of off the streets and forced into service, with no compensation. Not only were they abducted, they were also flogged, severely. Flogging wasn’t outlawed until 1850 on the books. However the practice continued well beyond 1850. So these do-gooders spouting about strength-in-diversity have sanitized one aspect of the issue while shoving the other side in our faces. If we can’t overcome this problem known as diversity, we’ll continue to be an even greater fractured nation
I could be wrong. Louisiana Purchase probably did not exist, the Mexican War did not exist. If it does should not the French and the Spanish people leave their homes and lands for the majority English New Englanders? I could be wrong that the Dutch did not joined their colonies with the British. The sale/recession of administration of private lands or assumption of national ownership in all the land of the territories? What about the Native American rights of equity? no one asked them as well. Hence the entitlement of English only law. Is not that anti diversity?
This content and philosophical direction of this talk is pretty obvious. Cultures come and go and society tends to gravitate to the most economically and politically powerful cultures. If you want to prosper in the dominant culture, which is almost always the most economically powerful, you conform at least to the degree that you must to prosper economically. I am quite sure that as China and India begin to rise in dominance, the dominant culture will change and my descendants may well be speaking Mandarin in the future. No, we are not conforming our society and schools to accommodate each and every culture. If you only go to our schools 4 days a week, you will be less well prepared than someone who went 5 days per week. You can teach your culture at home and you are encouraged to.

No matter how good your English or command of the native language is or how much you try to integrate you are still an outsider and would be treated as such. Most immigrants hold on tobghe dream of integration but it's all fake. Even children of generations of immigrants born in the west still get to face the harsh reality that ethnicity always means you would not be seen the same. Our ways of life are different, how we do things and act even how we play is different. Until we face the reality that immigrants are nothing more but labour and that's it.
This is a genuine question.
I understand and agree the benefits of diverse thought solving complex problems (Galton's Wisdom of Crowds)But is it a natural extrapolation to

What a weak set of arguments to support his ideas. People like this need to live in the inner city for a couple days, then come back and give this speech.
The whole presentation is hyperbole and nonsense, delusional man
nah. they will come back saying that minorities do poorly due to white racism
God taught me that it's the mentality of the people, behavior patterns and traits whether we are in a diverse society or not. I lived in same cultural, racial societies as well as diverse ones. You can still have enemies and good people in either societies so to me, it doesn't matter.
I don't think that it's considered copyright infringement to take medical lessons and apply them to save people's lives.
neither china or russia miss any diversity and no poland and all eastern europe. we can do it ourselves . we do not need to import indian doctor, we can learn to be doctors. that is national pride on which all countries in the world have been made for thousands of years

Wonderful talk. Diversity keeps the gene pool strong
It's causes strife in many cases
that was intense , powerful , it totally blew my mind
No you goof, diversity is not out strength. It’s out weakness. No one cares where you’re from. Our strength is coming together and abandoning our differences to rally behind a single goal. This everything goes mentality we see nowadays means there is no limits to ANYTHING. You’ve got to have discipline and get to work sometimes- life isn’t all about whatever pleases you or makes you comfortable.
wtf this comment section though
People seeing through the lies
White racism as usual
If it was so clearly benefical if wouldnt have to be forced!
There is nothing in this video of value, except maybe for the fact that it raises a certain awareness that cultural diversity is shrinking. I'm undecided wether I think that this cultural diversity should be preserved or not and his video didn't change that, as he only makes anectodal points that try to induce an emotional reaction.

Yes! Lets keep native people native!!!!
"Westernize" you don't own many of the things you think you own...
I laugh when people throw that phrase around haha
How about people travel where they wish, live how they wish and speak how they wish?
Yeah, about the rapes? When Germany tracked the stats, they found out that, as with every other migrants we've tracked, the migrants were LESS likely to commit crime than the native population, as indicated by the fact that an explosion of more than 400% of migrants led to less than an 80% increase of migrant crime, exactly the opposite of what bigots like you would predict if you were honest.
www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/may/11/donald-trump/donald-trump-says-germany-now-riddled-crime-thanks/
Your problems with migrants are because you are so laughably miserly that, when you fucked up and let America blow up Iraq because you can't be bothered to actually get the UN working since it might be inconvenient for you, you decided to not pick up your goddamn mess and instead spent ungodly amounts of money on fences and walls. If you had just invested that money into resettlement, we'd be fine right now.
Fascism killed 20 million people in the Holocaust alone and it ruined Italy, Germany, Spain and Japan. Don't make us curbstomp you again. Every single Syrian still in a camp is someone who is going to listen to ISIS, the people they hate, just that little bit more. You're choosing to increase terrorism because you're a crybaby who wants people around you to look like you. That makes you a traitor to humanity.
Analyze the ways in which culture is becoming more diverse, multicultural, and globalized.
Or they change the law to make it possible for them to kill whoever they please
mutual respect and cooperation lol. most tribes are pragmatically self-centred and look after the best interests of their own first and foremost. they might not want to do you any harm let alone kill you, but they will always put themselves ahead of you

Great talk in my opinion. As an international student in the United States, I can relate to a lot of things and examples he mentioned. Good job!
Open border for israel.
Israel never colonised, enslaved or invaded anyone
- their international tribesmen in Europe and America do advocate open borders for other countries. You need to read history, some of the major slaves traders were tribesmen, for example: Aaron Lopez.
I think the US military needs to have this training!!!!
It begin with the US being multi nationals/culturals; English, Dutch, French, Irish, German, et al..
Yes, I know we are now mixed but you do not know that; there could be pure breed out there.
be respectful and do no harm - diversity becomes toxic when it is forced by a bad ideolgy ?

it is so easy to blame others for issues you experience. Always searching for the cause of a problem in other people. Blaming yourself is the last thing that comes in mind Can you not understand that problems like mass-immigration or loss of diversity are caused by us all. Supporting war in the east or the colonization of Africa and many more conflicts are a cause of these issues too. Know better. Do better.

"Diversity of hues, form and shape enricheth and adorneth the garden, and heighteneth the effect thereof. Thank you Artimisumim? Thanks to Culture in Peru!
Excellent presentation! Thank you!
His examples for why diversity was important had more to do with the geographical location of the people. Of course, the British didn't know about the plant that the people of Peru had because the British did not live there. It had nothing to do with the race, language, or culture of the people. It had to do with the fact that the plants were on the other side of the world.

The world is divided the way it is for a reason, it would be better if you don’t force things like this onto society
This is all well and true. But what wasn't mentioned was the fact that the world is becoming a much smaller place. Those who don't appreciate that will get left behind with the rapid growth and change in cultures throughout the world. Change is inevitable, and we shouldn't resist it, but embrace it as its how we will develop as a species.
agreed im not very optomistic about it though who wants to live in a world with no diversity? not just in ethnicity but also culture ect
I looked it up and unfortunately this man isn't notable enough to have any sort of page for his biography, so we'll have to go with our guts when calling him Jewish.
He's pushing the agenda. He's no better.
I wouldn't care if we all spoke Spanish, danish, french, English, etc. But wouldn't it be easier if we all spoke the same language or believed in the same laws and beliefs?
You can't just invent a language, all of our languages are the result of slow changes in speech in specific regions, just like biological evolution.

He comes across as a pretty sanctimonious dude and it's kind of grating. On the rare occasion anyone says anything against cultural diversity [in public] everyone jumps down their throat and brands them a racist - this guy just spat out platitudinous anecdotes that he knew would get him a pat on the back. Other then getting a sun tan I can't do much to make the world more 'diverse'. He said nothing inspirational or actionable so I'm left wondering what the point of this was.
Proving that 'diverse' means "not White"
'#Diversity' is a codeword for #WhiteGenocide
Diversity is awesome as long as the minorities keep empowering us white guys to expand our government fiefdoms.
Language is a crucial component of cultural diversity
Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, all different names for QUOTAS! Let's stop the injustice of DIE.

+UnitedPebbles good intelligence factor you showed.
Are u on drugs or smth? Overexcited a bit
