      Of course it pleases the whales because it's a waifu gacha game except it's has an established fan base.
      Furthermore Nintendo hires hentai artists to draw the female characters with overexaggerated body portions and as sexualized as they can get away wth. It's kinda sad but aleast the mainline game aren't effected by this.

    It had a pretty decent story mode.
    That immediately got put into limbo when the game went worldwide.

    I'm expecting Mario Kart Tour to announce EoS by late July / early August (stopping in-app purchases too), then shutdown around November (basically 3 months later), just like with Dragalia Lost and Dr Mario World. *EDIT:* Plus there was a datamine supporting this. An in-game announcement sometime in July is planned.

      tbh....i can believe it since every tour track (minus Piranha Plant Pipeline) has been ported to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as likely a way to preserve these tracks for future entries, which would mean the city tracks and the tour Nitro's (which might end up being counted as Mario Kart 8 retro courses) will be here to stay much to the disappointment or frustration of some players

  • @nintega21
    @nintega21 7 місяців тому

    Fantastic Video. The thing about a community dying along with the game is something I'm beginning to experience and it really hurts in the moment.
    Mario Kart Tour had a really rocky beginning, it was awfully monetised and greedy. But as time went on, it became very clear that this was a game Nintendo cared about. The constant updates, the amount of content, the artwork. It took some time but this game managed to get back on it's feet, heck, they even outright removed gacha as the primary acquisition method after the 3rd anniversary.
    It was hard being a fan of this game. It still is.
    As you said, first impressions matter a lot and Tour's horrible first impression stuck with the game and did not leave. Even when many of the problems were addressed, people still treat the game as if it had them. There's such a horrible stigma against the game and part of that extends to the community as well. It's hard for one to just like the game since it's basically just "that money-hungry gacha" in most's eyes. Heck, I've been seeing so many Mario Kart full series "Retrospectives" but every single one of them ignore Tour as if it was just a footnote and didn't do anything.
    The Booster Course Pass didn't even really help too much since it just made people see Tour as a catalyst for MK8 content and when they started releasing Tour's non-city nitros early in 8 and not crediting them as such in game, it just killed a lot of potential positive press for the game. A course as beloved as Yoshi's Island didn't even make it's initial debut in the game it was made for.
    When the end to it's content was announced, it was bittersweet. This game I've played for 4 years, ever since launch- This game I've stuck with through thick and thin, adding it's final bit of new content on it's 4th anniversary.
    For all it did wrong, Tour still deserves to be remembered and acknowledged as much as any other game. The BCP wouldn't have even existed if it didn't exist.
    Fantastic video, and Pokémon Rumble deserved it's fate.

    Dragalia Lost's shutdown gets me the most. I absolutely loved that game with all of my heart. That game, aside from being a bit TOO generous for it's own good, did absolutely everything right. The gameplay was FAAAAAAR above most other mobile games, the phenomenal art style by Naoki Saitou, the killer soundtrack that also features music from Japanese singer/rapper Daoko, the story and characters were honestly far better than they had any right to be, and it even had some awesome collabs with game series like Mega Man and Monster Hunter. Quite frankly it had SO much going for it and there was potential for it to have been as successful if not MORESO than even games like Fire Emblem Heroes.
    Asides from the monetization being so optional it almost hurts, the game was really killed by the lack of any substantial advertising of any kind. I can count on my hand how many times I ACTUALLY saw ads on UA-cam for this game. I feel like if the game actually had more advertising, had more microtransactions that ACTUALLY incentivized players to spend without ruining the excellent pacing of the game, as well actually actually get a release on the Switch which would have actually drawn in more players, I think it might have lasted far longer than it ended up doing so.
    DL was my favorite mobile game of all time for the four years it was still online, and I would pay my life savings if Nintendo and Cygames ever decided to release an Offline version of the game someday. It truly deserved WAAAAAY better than what it ended up getting and I seriously hope we get something, ANYTHING from this IP someday.

    • @MaedonConey
      @MaedonConey  7 місяців тому +2

      I actually think you may have just found the answer to the question I couldn’t really solve. I wonder if Nintendo chose NOT to bring this game to the switch as it would potentially take some of the star power away from fire emblem. Like obviously 2 successful games are better than one but Nintendo is so weird with things of that nature. Although I don’t think it will happen, the fact there isn’t an offline version just feels like such a waste of the IP. If THIS really is the end, I’d be disappointed too 🥴

    Coming back to this channel 4 Months later, I’m impressed & Satisfied with the editing skills you have!
    From the smooth transitions, To how calm your voice is, You crafted a really great documentary and I’m proud of it!
    But about the topic of the video: I think the reason why Nintendo didn’t had too much success in the mobile game market is because Video game/PC companies like Sega, Nintendo, EA & Steam had more great success for there hardware & console games, The mobile games however in my opinion were overshadowed by The scummy Micro-Transactions like Mario Kart Tours Loot box system.
    The ones that would last & have the spotlight longer in the App Store are the Indie game startups Like Popcap (Plants Vs Zombies), Rovio (Angry Birds) & Zeptolab (Cut the rope).
    However, mobile game franchises lose there popularity at a certain point for different reasons Like Micro-Transactions, Lack of creativity or Targeting towards a audience of Young kids.

  • @Dakress23
    @Dakress23 7 місяців тому +2

    Dragalia Lost is the most baffling mobile game Nintendo's been involved with so far.
    Even though their name was on it, reportedly, their contributions to it were mainly development and localization related. Otherwise, Nintendo was so hands-off with it that they did the bare minimum with advertising and worldwide releases (which was limited to specific countries), thus leaving Cygames to do the heavy lifting up until the devs saw the writing on the wall and had to wrap it up & shut down earlier than planned.
    A bit of a shame overall. I hope the franchise ever sees the light of day again someday, because *damn* that game had a ton of charm.

    • @MaedonConey
      @MaedonConey  7 місяців тому +1

      I should have mentioned that, I actually didn’t know that about Nintendo but the lack of advertising was VERY obvious throughout my research. It sort of suffered a similar fate to Pokemon Duel, where it had this loyal fan base that loved the game but they just weren’t big enough to support it… Again because Nintendo wouldn’t assist in growing it. So strange

    After watching through this video, I decided to do some digging on Pokemon Shuffle.
    It seems they programmed that game to repeat holiday events and special stages until the year 2037 despite the 3DS version being unavailable and mobile no longer getting updates.
    That is certainly a more fair solution than losing all your progress but of course an offline version would be more ideal.
    I will give it credit for that despite how much I DESPISE it when compared to Yo-Kai Watch Puni Puni which falls under the ssme genre.
    Seriously, Yo-Kai Watch Puni Puni with its fast paced gameplay and its massive amounts of content always made Shuffle look bad and continues to make even the pastel soullessness of Cafe Mix also look hollow.
    Yo-Kai Watch is canonically tied to the massively successful Neon Genesis Evangelion and Attack On Titan among other things through Puni Puni.

    Dr. Mario World was really good! Pretty much all the Dr. Mario games feel the same and get boring, but World changed up the formula to something better. Dragalia Lost/Final Fantasy Record Keeper Global/Mobius Final Fantasy are examples of those that would be fun to dabble in randomly with some good story/combat mechanics that sucks that it won’t be able to be revisited again. (Not counting the version of record keeper in Japan since not only you gotta start fresh but also have to deal with no translations)

    Nintendo initially made mobile games as ways to advertise their console/handheld games to potential new customers… and I’m not sure it even accomplished that. I think they kinda just failed for a while and the Switch happened to work out, so they really had no reason to make any new ones. Just support the few that remained successful.
    Pokémon Rumble deserved it’s fate. Stapling of, I played the 3DS one (free version). Must’ve been when I had nothing else to play because I got hooked for a while. I think I got to a point where I couldn’t really progress anymore without spending money (which was quite far), and realized how much time I wasted doing absolutely nothing.

    Dr Mario was so heartbreaking, paying premium currency for an extra turn which wouldn’t be enough to clear the level? If the game can tell I can’t win this with a few extra moves, why prompt me to buy extra turns? Just exit me out of the level…

    Pokémon rumble deserved its end. Also I actually played some of the Nintendo mobile games like Duel and Ruble Rush, honestly I liked Duel better I found it fun and the masks your character wore looked cute and like you were attending a masquerade ball which was honestly cool, I miss Duel.

    I can't express how much it hurts me to remember Draglia Lost. The only mobile gacha game that actually captivated me with its characters and world, only to then it shut years later.
    I'm just glad they were able to finish the story before EoS and even leave with proper credits and a "Thanks for playing!" screen.
    Also, Pokémon rumble deserved its fate. (Which is funny cause I remember playing the WiiWare game AGES ago, alongside My Pokémon Farm.)

    Nintendo was pushed into mobile development by out of touch investors who don't understand gaming or Nintendo at all, and it really showed. The app releases all felt half assed to me, like Nintendo didn't really care about them and just wanted people to stop bothering them about apps. These apps were all kind of doomed from the start and it's a shame. Miitomo especially, I would have loved for a more Tomodachi Life esque experience but I'm not sure how viable that would be given how heavily that game leaned into the 3DS's gimmicky features.
    And since I watched the whole video, Pokemon Rumble deserves its fate I guess.

    Pokémon Rumble did deserve its fate. The series should have never used micro transactions in there games, and it’s upsetting to see how low this series went because my brother is a huge fan of the Pokémon Rumble series. So it’s just disheartening where the series went after the second Rumble game.

    Pokemon Duel is still my favorite game to this day, bar the nostalgia-infused Pokemon Diamond. The sheer depth in strategy, of min-maxing roulette outcomes to be favorable towards you, was incredible. Each Pokemon had a unique flavor to it, making it refreshing, challenging, and rewarding to use your "favorite" Pokemon instead of the "meta" Pokemons. I was more than happy to buy its microtransactions; it was that good.
    The end of the game was abrupt: we'd gotten a $15~20 subscription plan on February 2019, where you get to exchange 20 of any figurine of your choosing every month. $20 per month is a lot, but what we received back would satisfy even the most hardcore figurine-leveling players. 5 months later we received notice of the service ending soon, and nobody expected it. It had seemed like things were on the up. We even referenced sales numbers from game news articles and half-joked about how successful the game was.
    P.S. How many other games can brag about having an actual, official LORD BIDOOF in the roster?

      I have to wonder if the Pokémon company wanted to pull this game with the release of masters, a lot of the other games have pretty clear and definitive reasons for their shut down but I agree here… even after all the research this took I don’t have an answer for its shut down

    My new deep in my soul Nintendo and mobile games wouldn't be a good fit, I thought it would originally but I was wrong.
    From my point of view and I think the real reason why they did this is so that way they can get some money after the Wii U and 3DS era were causing them a lot of money loss, Not only was this the only way for them to get money, but also they sold classic editions and decided to expand their IP with universal studios.
    Thanks to us giving them the money they were able to give us the Nintendo switch and finally the chance to finish up breath of the wild.
    That's all my theory and prediction!

    Dragalia did not release in EU for some reason, but did still perform decently with earnings. I wanted to try the game but never got the chance
    Fire Emblem Heroes was and is still very strong with earnings, especially when looking at the amount of players. But the game is way to complex for new players to get into with walls of text for every new hero and lots of mechanics/modes. The powercreep has also reached the point i don't care anymore and play casual and not really daily. When not playing i keep following the game for the artworks of new Heroes, love the art in the game
    Pokemon Go is still huge, but Niantic seems to hate their players sometimes, and the last years the game had multiple times with very stale weeks/months even. It is also stale at the moment, but the global gofest is near. I mostly play for catch of the day so for a few minutes on average. And with some events longer

    Sure, Dr. Mario World had a lot a micro-transactions, but there really was no point for anybody to pay. The only reason you had to pay was to get diamonds to get new characters and refill your hearts, and even that wasn't necessary since you could also use coins for characters and the game just showers you with those for just beating the levels and opponents in Vs mode and also every time you logged in you got plenty of hearts, I had so much that I never evar ran out and I still lost a lot. It and Dragalia Lost were and are still to me the mobile games Nintendo published.
    Oh, and also Pokémon Rumble really deserved it's fate.

  • @nickymaker4804

    I’m fine with less mobile Nintendo games, they can be fun but to survive they need microtransactions and sometimes gatcha witch i don’t like
    If they have a great idea for a game, why not just put it on switch?
    Also love the video, keep going! 👍

    • @MaedonConey
      @MaedonConey  7 місяців тому +1

      I couldn’t agree more, I think the switch is the best option for both a home console experience and something to play on the go. Bringing in phones as that sort of extra device kind of defeats the purpose of the switch altogether

    • @nickymaker4804
      @nickymaker4804 7 місяців тому

      Phones theoretically should be better because everyone has one and you take it everywhere but these games require an internet connection and a good one at that so the only place to play those games is at your house witch at that point, why not just play your switch?
      These games don’t fail as games cause they are good (for the most part), they fail as mobile games

    To be honest I think Nintendo could use mobile as a platform to revive dying IPs that can actually work there.
    Nintendogs would be perfect on mobile, even using some geolocalization mechanics borrowed from Pokémon Go and Pikmin Bloom.
    F-Zero could finally see a new release as free-to-play endless runner with PvP modes, mixing Sonic Dash and F-Zero 99 because... let's be honest, we aren't going to see a new mainline F-Zero since it's a historically important but somehow outdated IP, indeed we only see indie rip-offs, no major releases.
    And now I'd like to spend some words on Miitomo: in my opinion that was the only way Miis could properly survive. There's no space anymore for the Mii-mania, no Wii Play anymore, no Wii Fit, no Wii Party, Wii Music and so on. Even Nintendo Switch Sports didn't really include Miis. It's hard to expect a new Tomodachi Life or Miitopia.
    But Miitomo made a lot of sense and it would be very interesting if they release it again in 2024.
    They'd need to add more features.
    I'll take inspiration from Snapchat and you'll understand why.
    Apart from your customazible Mii (with a Miitopia-like Mii Maker) in your customazible house (add events in the shop, new items, seasons, collaborations and so on) it would be nice to see Mii Games: games to play with your Miitomo friends (just like Snap Games) based on popular Wii Sports / Wii Play / Wii Party / Nintendo Land games. Among them: Mii Party, a mini party game similar to Bitmoji Party with a rotation of minigames and so on.
    Then it would be fun to add a feature like StreetPass (not sharing personal data of course) and other mechanics from StreetPass Mii Plaza (some games, for example).
    Expand the social part including a built-in private social conceptually similar to Miiverse but not "global": only friends posts, drawings, Miifotos, Miivideos and Miistories (we'll arrive here); just imagine if WhatsApp had posts and moments.
    Finally, directly from Tomodachi Life, scenes and "stories", for example your Mii going on vacation with your friends Miis. So again, similar to Bitmoji Stories. And Miivideos including songs as in Tomodachi Life or AR videos with your Mii doing stuff or even videos similar to My Talking Tom of your Mii saying something.
    Imagine a game like this during the pandemic, maybe even adding voice chats (of course only with friends)

    I enjoyed Dragalia Lost I thought it was fun and the story was interesting and had some neat ideas. However when I later played FFXIV and I got to its first expansion Heavensward I realized where Cygames got their entire playbook for DL. A story about the relationship between mankind and dragons one of the main ones is named Midgardsormr yeah it’s not exactly one to one but I couldn’t help but compare. Ultimately I just could not stand the grind and fell off although the music was awesome.

    Old Mobile games are still better than every new "pay to win" crap. I don't understand why we cant have quality games on a mobile, when there is for example Mobile version of Star Wars: KOTOR which was released over 10 years ago... Why we can't have for example Shovel Knight ( Pocket Dungeon is a joke) on a Mobile?

    The fact that Nintendo keeps Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Mario Kart Tour online shows they're not done in the space; they are just not ready to ditch the mainline games, which makes sense.
    And, nearly all Pokémon games deserved the fate. They just had no chance compared to what Nintendo put out themselves.
