Thank you Russell and City girl. You guys make me happy. Watching you two and I am amazed at how it takes all my stress away. I plan to off grid too and love all the helpful information.
Hi Russell, love watching your videos. I have an idea for mud holes on the trial, using the mud to your advantage. 1. Cut +/- 50 x 4 inch - 2 meter poles [length is dependent how deep the mud is, but 2meters should do you well], sharpen one end of each pole. 2. Drive them vertically into the mud as deep to 150 to 300mm in a straight line about 1.2 meter apart 25 pcs, two parallel rows. 3. The two parallel rows should be 2 to 2.5 meters apart. 4. Interconnect each row to each other with horizontal level beams, and then also interconnect both rows to each other - zig zagging. 5. Then build a timber "road" of similar sized timbers. Laying them perpendicular to the piles, similar to how you made the temporary setup, before it floated away. The idea is you build a stable long platform about 0.5 to 1 meter above the water. 6. The piles will eventually sink deeper and deeper as you ride over it, if a few piles sink in a section, loosen that section [unscrew the long skrews, battery operated drill - same as used for your cabin] of the "road" from the vertical pile and jack it up, using a 4 by 4 [off road jack], to level the road, and re-skrew. Over time it will stabilize. 7. The key is to make sure the horizontal beams connecting each pile to each other, can be loosened and lifted higher, then screwed back into place. Two or four long screws per beam to pile. 8. All you do is tweak the sinking road part each time, by lifting that section of the road, loosen, jack, lift, level and screw tight. 9. Over time you will refine the leveling process, but you will always be above the water. 10. Eventually you will be able to build it in no time and be able to make similar wooden pile bridges in the other areas that need attention. 11. Start with a trial, a small section first, figure it out. 12. The further sinking of the piles from the weight of your ATV and Trailer will further stabilize the bridge. 13. Your viewer count will sharply increase with a bit of click bait photos :-) [Off -grid bridge build project.] 14. Using this method you could literally build a "road" across your pond:-)
Hip wader's !! Maybe use BIG log's like the tree behind you that's leaning. Then fill in with rock's and dirt and laying the small log's across. Will need to drive a spike in every 3rd or 4th one to keep them from moving. Thank goodness the problem isn't to bad, just a new hitch. Look's like you need a wider plank to the dock. Plant's are looking great. Stay safe and healthy. God bless
True channel, true problems, true solutions, everything true . Most of channels are not showing these. Someday, I will go my village which is at hills of himalaya. You are so inspiring. My english is no so good but hopefully you understand my feelings.
Russell - once you have all the logs in place you need to secure them together with sections of chain link fence. even if the logs float they will stay together and the chain links will offer traction even under water! its way less work than filling in the bog!
With all the work you do trying to make the boggy parts passable perhaps install some drainage /weepers that will take the water, as it accumulates in those areas, away.
Easy fix...new bracket. I think there are rotating/swivel pintle hitches that could help you out. The problem is for that setup there is no give for when it flips over and somethings gonna give.
You're lucky it did not bust the differential housing. Just the parts will run you around $800.00. You may want to ditch the pintle hitch and get a hitch like the overlanders use. Check out the "Lock 'N' Roll" trailer hitch. They are pricey, so maybe you can show the Wizard a picture of the Lock "N" Roll and he can come up with his version.
hello russell sorry that your atv hinch broke on you and because of that you couldn't finish working on your path bridge so your able to get from your cabin to the otherside on the atv but i heard in this video the guy u called gave you a good idea and i'm very happy you can hopefully order the part you need to fix it so you can tow the little traier to put stuff in it to take to new bridge your wanting to fix .i am sorry i'm late watching and commenting on this video and a couple more from you i took alittle brake from things and now i'm back doing what i love watching and commenting on your video's so thankyou very much russell and until next video i say so long for now and please take care p.s stay safe out there .from Randy from ontario, canada .
Always something. I was up at the property to move some of the lumber around. Chopper dropped it all on the spot where we will be building. Found a large carpenter ant colony already setting up home in the lumber bundle. Still better than hanging out in the city.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin No worries, we burned the two pieces of lumber containing the eggs. Extermination day of anything left is next monday. Those little suckers are going to pay!!!
Russel, in a few more months you can become an ‘ice road trucker.’ Glad you didn’t get stung. Or hurt. Maggie and Roxie were waiting for Willow and JB to bark back. :( G-d bless the Merlin in your life!
There's always something throwing a wrench in your plans Russell, and that nice light clean clothing and shoes are just asking for trouble when battling "The Mud hole of Doom", soon there will be winter and nice flat ice and snow will cover up that mess, unless there's a spring in there somewhere.. The universal 2" receiver and trailer hitch mount is a bit worrying on Can-Am's with it being bolted directly to the rear differential housing (tying the rear frame together) and to save the diff from damage the mount is quite flimsily built to crumble as happened to you. I added aftermarket bracing brackets (very expensive though) around the rear diff to unload some of the weight of the machine and trailer from the diff itself. I've also drilled a hole on the upper side of the 2" receiver, welded in a nut and made a tightening bolt to take any up and down play away from the mount and tow hitch. I've also pressed the sides together so there's basically no side to side play in the receiver as well so I can now tow without any play and rattling in the mount..
So here you are being a good hubby, trying to make a safe trail for city girl and this happens? Never a dull moment huh? Looks like a big job too? Hang in there Russell... At least 1 of ur tomato plants is doing ok.. Kb

I'm looking at either the 2021 polaris 850 touring or a 2021 outlander max like yours, but have heard multiple reports of the front suspension being too soft on the outlander, especially with 2 people on board. So soft that it buttoms out too easily. Have you experienced the same?
What a day!But that is why everything is so much harder out there. Nothing is simple or straightforward. Speaking of which, did i miss the repair on your solar? Or are you still waiting on delivery of the new cables/connectors? 🤞
Russell, my man. You sure do know how to stir up trouble, lol. Last week, I was starting to cut down a tree close to my cabin and turned out to be nest at the base, got stung twice, "OUCH". Have you checked the local tool rental places for weekend rental rates on a tractor or mini excavator? A 4wd tractor with a box blade and front loader can get a lot of the trails cleaned up and ruts filled in at the same time giving a better place for the water to flow to not do as much damage to the trail. A mini excavator has the dozer blade on it and you can get a hammer attachment to attack the exposed bedrock in the spots that it is a problem or to work on quarrying it for building materials.
Yes you don't want perfect trails as that just invites uninvited people in but improving the trails for more comfortable travel at a better speed makes the trips you take better. A 12 foot culvert section cut into 3 4 foot sections would fill a huge amount of the mud hole and let you cover with common dirt without blocking the flow from one pond to the next as you said it is a drainage so let you travel over at speed on dry ground with the water flowing under you and no complicated bridge building.
Then again if you wanted to quarry some of the bedrock there is a micro blasting system that is used by hobby gold miners and requires no certifications in the US and Canada that would let you drill a few holes in the rocks and blast off chunks of it for building materials at the speed you work at rather then needing to rush for rented equipment times. It can also be used to blast off exposed rock sections in a trail when you want to level out the area by blasting it low then back filling
