Great job on the video Matt! Thanks for making it,
Great video Matt. I may have to pick up one of these. I got the 24-105 for video and a bit of reach but the 20-70 f/4 has some features that in my mind, makes it a great lens for video use, just wish they had made it slightly longer and added the power zoom function on it. Also if they could have made it internal zooming, like the 16-35, that would be great. I think people are missing the point of this lens. The compact size and 20mm end allows good framing when the stabilization and focus breathing features are applied. This may not be a thing for photo work but for video it is quite useful. On the photo end, the 20mm give you some more room for indoor shots. I 'll have to check this lens out when it's available.
Great video dude! Also thanks for including me in your video!
Nice review! I was wondering if you were planning on making a review on the Tamron 35-150
Well now I've watched a few of your vids to confirm my suspicions, I've now ordered a DJI RS3 Mini (to replace my DJI RS3), and this 20-70mm f4 (to replace my 16-35 f4). Can't wait for that weight change, and extra zoom on my gimbal. I'm still shooting good old 1080HD as brides in the UK don't know the difference. This means I get an extra button on the camera to zoom in to APS mode, making the tight zoom a 105mm. Haha. Thank you Matt.
Hi Matt! Thanks for the awesome content. I am really excited about my journey for travel and wedding film making. Have you ever bought used lenses from amazon? I see that they are sold there and I wanted to know if you have bought a lens from there or have any recommendations on where to buy a used GM 70-200mm? Thank you!
Great review Matt and straight to the conclusion as well. I do want to test this lens out already. Having it at 20mm will help make up for the Active Steady Mode since it adds a 1.2x crop thus at least making it a 23 or 24mm. The biggest selling point for me would be the weight of this lens. Being lighter will easily allow me to record handheld for hours on end compare to my heavy DN Art 24-70mm lens. I know the downside will definitely be the F/4 in low light situation. If that does happen, just swap out to a prime lens or zoom lens that can open wide at F/2.8. If im recording outside, then i am mostly at F/4 to F/5.6 all the time since my Nisi True Color ND filter only has 5-stops. Thanks Matt!
Great way of looking at it Harry!
Awesome video, thanks!
The only F4 lens I have is the Sony 24 to 105 and it is awesome!
Matt, when this lens zooms, moving internal component in and out, does it suck in rain or sand in windy areas? thanks.
Which spec MacBook Pro do you recommend for 4k - 5.6k editing ? How much ram and which cpu (m2 pro or m2 max) how many gpu cores and display size you recommend? I use the with Sony a7s iii and Fx3 cameras. I use adobe premiere and after effects
Thanks for sharing. How’s the vignetting at 20mm f4, have u noticed it? Thanks!
Awesome lens! I love it!
For a portrait is f4 at 70mm good enough for blur background? I have a 90mm f2.8 but it’s so slow at focusing so im looking at other options, thanks
It feels very suitable for my channel content, I should buy one.
Would the auto focus on this lens be better than on Tamron 28-75? Sony A74
Sharper then Tamron 28-75 ii or Sigma art 24-70? 🙆🙂
Honestly might be the perfect wedding zoom to pair with a prime or two (three, four, five)
😂 so many primes
挺不错的镜头,会购买
Hey Matt, another great video:) I have the Sony a6500, and use the Sony F4/18-105 to shoot videos. Most of my videos are created in my studio where I make Spokesperson videos using a green screen. One thing that bothers me about this lens is that it's so wide that when I film videos I then must edit it in Premiere Pro, and create a mask or adjust the scaling to remove the outside parts that I don't want seen in the videos. Can you recommend a lens that would not be so wide? I've been looking into a Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 E Mount, but am not sure. Any info. you could provide would be greatly appreciated:)
That tamron 28-75 is really nice, recommend renting it
I already have 24-105, is it worth changing it to 20-70?
Nope. 24-105 has more reach, it has OSS, no distortion, and is way less expensive. This lens sucks
My first lens for my a74 was a Tamron 17-28 and it’s autofocus sucks! Making me not trust 3rd party on Sony bodies. I can’t decide 20-70, 24-105, or 24. $1000ish budget. I want wide for video but also a good walk around photo lens.
I gave up all my 3rd party lens, you’re right, focus sucks and slow.
In waiting for you Lumix S5II review! 😊😅
Waiting to get one!
The Tamron 20 - 40mm F2.8 is an interesting alternative to this lens.
Yup I've heard good things about that one!
I second this, amazing lens. F4 is just not that versatile when the sun goes down.
I'm making wedding films by Sony A6400 + 30mm F1.4mm. Just entered to the business and trying to make good fims for customer. Can anyone suggest a wide lens for my Sony A6400. Yeha, it's a crop. It's not easy to buy camera stuff in my country. Thanks in advance. 😍
Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 or Viltrox 13mm f1.4
@@markofadljevic1975 thanks bro 💪
Sigma 16mm obviously.
I am still using my sony 6300 (sigma 16mm, sigma 30mm and sony 70-200mm f4)
@@999slawter Thank you !
This vs Sigma 24-70 2.8? With a7iv
To be honest I’d go with the Tamron 20-40mm f2.8 and Sigma 28-70 f2.8 combo. F4 is going to be quite limiting both creatively and in low light.
@@timg027 For that I prefer the Sigma 16-28 2.8 C + Sigma 24-70 2.8 A. Less rangecrossing and wider range at 16 😏
First what I notice on this lens a very stiff and noisy zoom ring. Why, Sony, why?
How nice it is to work with an APC-S sensor and not have to think about incredibly expensive lenses. For 1600 EUR (actual price) i can buy 1x A6500 and 1x A6300 in good condition and 1x new Tamron 17-70 f2.8
If you stick with apsc, then definitely the tamron is the best you can get. But only if you are shooting with an apsc and you do not want to go for full frame at all.
Please review
16-28 f:28 sigma
I need to try it
For weddings I'd rather have the 24-105mm. It's far more versatile.
Yup. Plus, it has OSS and is way less expensive. This lens sucks
What about for interviews/documentaries?
@Jace Apoc 24-105 is not at all sharp as compared to this one and much lighter.
@@jackryder6732 Not true. It’s very sharp as well. Read some reviews and tests, the 24-105 is one of the sharpest lens in the G lineup. And there’s a difference of only 175g… for 175g more I’d rather have the 24-105 which is also much more versatile, has OSS, no vignetting and no distortion like the 20-70, etc.
My beard got long
Yesssss
Matt i think its time you fight "Tech Notice" he seems to talk quite the trash
F4 😅
Much better off getting the sigma 24-70mm f2.8
Heavy
No OSS, heavy distortion, super expensive in Europe... Nope, this ain't it Sony
ten degrees wider then 24mm. 94 vs 84 degrees.
