Blackbirds and bluetits have begun singing different songs and the beavers have clicked into overdrive, hauling more and more lengths of wood across the lake here, to bolster up, secure and insulate their lodges. The first touch of autumn is truly upon us.

I'm originally from the Thetford Chase area of Norfolk, born in a cottage deep in the woods, forests are my natural habitat... but the dear old Chase just doesn't compare to the expanse of these northern forests of Eastern Europe. It's really the last bastion of the old primeval Europe... and, together with Lithuania, the very last part of Europe to be Christianized. I feel autumn in my bones already. It already gets dark way too early, and storms are in full bloom. The air in the morning resembles autumn way more than summer. Honestly it's confusing. Feels and smells mystical 🌙🖤
Nature doesn't care about the calendar. My experience is, here in the Midwestern US, nature will tell you when the seasons actually are. Summer is basically May through July (bees come out early may, days longest in June, warmest temps June/July, growing season begins in may and peaks in july in areas with cold winters, nature thriving). Fall is August through October. (Days shorter, leaves changing/falling, birds migrating, harvest season, incects dying off/life cycles finishing off in prep of coming freeze, everything going to seed) Winter is November through January. (Everything dead/at rest, migration over, coldest nights, shortest days) And spring is February through April. (Days getting longer, weather warmer & warmer, birds arriving, spring flowers coming up through snow, trees budding even through the snow) :) I suppose the calendar makes more sense in other areas but in mine it is off by almost 2 months.
To me, autumn always smells like smoky fires and rain wet fields. It feels earlier this year. When I saw the letter e shape, I thought of eternity, a pathway leading to something that would be forever. Love your videos. 🧚♀️

Loved your video! You inspired me so I went out to do a rubbing on my black walnut tree bark, intending to add color to it when I went inside. I sat down at my desk and started looking at it and lots of faces popped up! I outlined each one. There’s a witch, a dolphin,a dragon head breathing fire,a raven,a goofy kangaroo,a fish, a squirrel head, a lock and some strange creature, a cross between an otter and a ghost!lol! I love autumn! And love that smell in the air when it’s coming. Being in Australia we are heading into spring. It’s still a nice time at the moment. I was inspired to take a walk in nature yesterday with my 4 year old daughter. It was so lovely. We collected sticks, tiny pinecones and moss. My daughter collected ‘fairy dust’. It looked a lot like dirt to me, but who knows 😂

Hello darling Alwyn! The red stick like fungi you found is probably a Calocera Viscosa commonly known as Yellow Stagshorn. It is a part of Calocera family which is a jelly like fungi that look like smal sticks sometimes. Others call them forks 😂Dog stinkhorn and other stink horn mushrooms actually come frome a different family of mushroom types which are called Mutinus or Pallaceae. 😅 Now i need to run and find some wild raspberries for my porridge ❤
I have always been able to smell autumn - usually in the very early morning starting in August. I think it smells like apples. Since I am in the Deep South of the US, where it is still 95+ degrees F (35C) & 90+% humidity, this experience each morning is very fleeting. But I so look forward to it each year. And aren't "granny memories" the best? My granny lived in western North Carolina, in the Appalachian Mountains, which is known for their delicious apples. In the final weeks of summer, going into fall, she would make a cobbler with the first of autumn's apples and the last of summer's blackberries. I make it every Mabon & Autumn Equinox. It is a way of keeping my granny with me & sharing her with my son.

What I love about autumn is pumpkin carving. I don't just do the standard Jack-o-lantern grin. I like to get creative and see what masterpiece I can make using the pumpkin as my canvas. This year I'm thinking of making a faery house to put in my garden.

Thank you! I also love autumn. I love all the seasons, but there is something about the ending of summer that is comforting, like a warm sweater. In Ohio, USA it is 80 degrees so fall is several weeks off. So I am gathering black walnuts from my trees, and magnolia leaves for decorating. Apples are my favorite, I grew up with 6 apple trees…I climbed them as a child and also loved my grandmother’s pies. Thanks for sparking that memory. 😊

A tip for your grandmother’s cake; use a mix of granulated white and brown sugar to get the flavour and the crunch. They have different melting points so the white granulated sugar just sticks together and remains crunchy while the brown sugar melts and caramelises. My grandma is miles away and yet I could practically hear her dictating that over my shoulder 🤣
I have always felt like we lost some kind of ancient knowing that used to speak to the nuances of the seasons - that there are more than just 4 seasons - maybe more like 12 seasons that could make space for the liminal and transitional spaces! I make UA-cam videos in a similar spirit as yours and have been living and traveling across the continent (mostly in magical nature spaces) with my two cats for the last year and it's been so amazing to experience that difference in the nature and the progression of the seasons in so many different places and climates. My favorite time of year. To me, Autumn, or Fall is the most magical time of year, when you can really see and experience the transition of life to death, but also life to new life. You're videos are so youthful and magical. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I feel in some ways as I've gotten older, I forget to rest and take in the joys of nature and magic that originally drew me to Witchcraft. I am also surrounded by old never developed forest, and it's time I get back out there and just see where the spirits take me.

It's cool in the mornings and evenings....I am greatful for the cooler evenings as it has been quite warm during the days..it was in the 80's today, .but I am also sad feeling summer fading. Your videos always inspire, being yourself and tuning into life all around you.

What helps me mentally on those rough days is positive affirmations which creates new neuro path ways in the brain and also appreciation practices. It's taken me a long time to heal from trauma from the past. But it happens slowly one day at a time. Your beautiful walks through the forest are so magical, I feel like I'm there. When it is in ocean it looks similar to that it has its own sticks so to speak and they fall all separate when they die. Hello darling Alwyn! The red stick like fungi you found is probably a Calocera Viscosa commonly known as Yellow Stagshorn. It is a part of Calocera family which is a jelly like fungi that look like smal sticks sometimes. Others call them forks 😂Dog stinkhorn and other stink horn mushrooms actually come frome a different family of mushroom types which are called Mutinus or Pallaceae. 😅 Now i need to run and find some wild raspberries for my porridge ❤
I have always been able to smell autumn - usually in the very early morning starting in August. I think it smells like apples. Since I am in the Deep South of the US, where it is still 95+ degrees F (35C) & 90+% humidity, this experience each morning is very fleeting. But I so look forward to it each year.
And aren't "granny memories" the best? My granny lived in western North Carolina, in the Appalachian Mountains, which is known for their delicious apples. In the final weeks of summer, going into fall, she would make a cobbler with the first of autumn's apples and the last of summer's blackberries. I make it every Mabon & Autumn Equinox. It is a way of keeping my granny with me & sharing her with my son.

What I love about autumn is pumpkin carving. I don't just do the standard Jack-o-lantern grin. I like to get creative and see what masterpiece I can make using the pumpkin as my canvas. This year I'm thinking of making a faery house to put in my garden.
Autumn 🍂 is such an enchanting time of year and I love it. The Autumn winds awaken and swirl and dance in the trees as if to announce their presence. The bending bows sway back and forth in the strong Autumn winds. A very enjoyable and entertaining video 😊

Thank you! I also love autumn. I love all the seasons, but there is something about the ending of summer that is comforting, like a warm sweater. In Ohio, USA it is 80 degrees so fall is several weeks off. So I am gathering black walnuts from my trees, and magnolia leaves for decorating. Apples are my favorite, I grew up with 6 apple trees…I climbed them as a child and also loved my grandmother’s pies. Thanks for sparking that memory. 😊

My favorite time of year. To me, Autumn, or Fall is the most magical time of year, when you can really see and experience the transition of life to death, but also life to new life. You're videos are so youthful and magical. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I feel in some ways as I've gotten older, I forget to rest and take in the joys of nature and magic that originally drew me to Witchcraft. I am also surrounded by old never developed forest, and it's time I get back out there and just see where the spirits take me.

I love your magical observations of life....Autumn is in the air here now on the, Oregon, coast U.S.A. for 3 days and nights...you can smell the ripe blackberries in the warm afternoon air, and I made several jars of blackberries mixed with blue berries syrup in canning jars...A slight breeze... It's cool in the mornings and evenings....I am greatful for the cooler evenings as it has been quite warm during the days..it was in the 80's today, .but I am also sad feeling summer fading. Your videos always inspire, being yourself and tuning into life all around you.

What a lovely video as always 😍! The mushroom A Dogs stink horn was so funny and it reminds me of the star coral in the ocean. When it is in ocean it looks similar to that it has its own sticks so to speak and they fall all separate when they die. Can't wait fo Summer to be over! I must say though, I live in NYC and Summer has not been to bad regarding temperatures. The temps mostly have been breezy at temperatures in the 70's but there's nothing better than Autumn!
