    Thank you for teaching me about how rivets work. I like how the boy giggles when Dad says, "Let's go ahead and really screw up a rivet."

    This is the best video I've seen on solid riveting . Great job thanks. But how do I know about the # numbers for my rivet and rivet set? What is a 1/4" rivet?

    29 years in the business.
    Licensed AME-S
    and I still love what I do.
    My advice to up and coming structures, young fellers and ladies, is to move around as much as you can in the industry for the experience.
    Light aviation (.016" - .050") 2024-T3 aluminum sheet takes way more riveting finess and time to master. Heavy rivet work (.040" - .80"+) aluminum sheet, like with Boeing aircraft, is much more forgiving.
    You'll become well-rounded and work with confidence.
    A tip! When riveting monel rivets and thin stainless sheet material, shorten it up on your rivet length and use rivet rubber on the shop tail side to flatten the stainless sheet on that side
    The suggested 1.5 undriven tail length is too much rivet, and monel rivets love to dump. The stainless sheet material stretches and looks terrible after you dump a rivet.
    Always use a shorter rivet.
    You'll see what I mean😉

    I don’t understand that when pressure is too low the gun is jumping onto the rivet head . For me that happens when pressure is too high .

    • @1donagin
      @1donagin  5 років тому +1

      This is how much force you apply to the gun - not the amount of air pressure. If you are jumping off, press more firmly.

    I'm trying to use solid steel rivets to repair a bus, but my rivets' tail ends keep folding and don't want to flatten very much.
    In all the videos I've watched, no one uses solid steel rivets for their demonstration. Is there a reason for this? Is steel too strong a metal for this method to work properly?

    • @1donagin
      @1donagin  4 роки тому

      Hi. You can rivet steel, but it is done differently. It takes a lot longer. You use a ball peen hammer, and repeatedly tap the shank. It eventually forms a very rounded (domed) head. I haven't ever tried with a rivet gun. Do you have mild steel rivets?

    • @johnbartlett5442
      @johnbartlett5442 3 роки тому

      Use a good size tungsten bucking bar, its alott more dence and you can work the bucktail wille you shoot, use a 4x, anything smaller will just piss off a monell rivet.

    This demonstrator has started with the assumption that he is talking to idiots. He is not alone, the You Tube is full of men who love to hear themselves talk. I cannot wait for this bloke's next video telling the world more improper things they should not do with a rivetting gun.
