  • Continuing up the Shenandoah Valley into western Virginia and the Eastern “arm” of West Virginia for this video.
We head out with the Leica Summilux 35mm reissue (model 11301). This lens is also known as the “steel rim” lens for its characteristic signature shiny metal rim. The original lens from the 1960’s sells used for over $20,000 on eBay…Yikes!
We look at the aesthetics of this lens, its fit and finish, and overall feel of its performance when it comes to images.
We’ll explore White Post, Farnham Colossi, and Winchester Virginia where we find excellent historic and iconic Americana photographic subjects to document.
Please like and subscribe. These videos are hard work and time consuming to make, so your support is appreciated!
I am documenting the decay on mainly a black and white medium the fade of iconic American roadside sights, mixed in with the landscape and portrait shots of the people we meet along the way. This project was inspired by a combination of inspiration from the photography greats in street photography, landscape photography, new topographic photography, and portrait photography. This photographic project isn’t limited to a genre, disciple, or discipline, but rather being able to adapt the variability of life as it comes your way.
I shoot with Leica cameras and many Leica and Voightlander lenses. I am a big fan of vintage lenses and the lens designer Walter Mandler. My everyday carry is the Leica 35mm Summilux Steel Rim reissue. More on Leica photo equipment in practical use in coming episodes.
Photo gear used in this video: Leica M11 Monochrom, Leica 35mm Steel Rim Summilux Steel Rim (11301) resissue, and Leica Thambar 90mm reissue
Video gear used in this video: Panasonic S5IIx, Insta 360 1 inch, GoPro hero 11, DJI Mini 3 pro drone.

Great seeing White Post, VA. I got a really smart border collie pup in the early '90s from Ethel Conrad at Sunnybrook Farm in White Post. The used to be what looked a small building near the white post that billed itself as the "White Post Mall". That was the major landmark where to turn to get to her farm. Enjoyed the video and photos. I shoot with an M11 configured, primarily, for B&W photography. My Zeiss Biogon 2/35mm works just fine.

Great comments, and thanks for watching....It was a very interesting area to shoot.... I wanted to dive deeper into what the area had in store, but I was only there for a few days. Hope you like your Biogon 35mm, I want to try one one of these days!

Thanks Gaston. I’m a sub of your channel as well. Right now we are battling the new channel algorithm bias on UA-cam which doesn’t push out the videos very much. More videos coming soon. I want to ramp up production soon. Get more out more often. Lots of “life” things being the antagonist to that.

Researching the lens I found your entertaining channel. Serendipitous! Does yours have the wobbly aperture ring too, or has it gotten better lately?

It has a little play. I can’t say it has gotten to a level of “wobble”.
