Leica for Less... how to do it
Переглядів 6 тис.14 днів тому
This video is NOT sponsored Leica for Less! One of the biggest barriers to entry for a new Leica photographer is the high cost of Leica equipment. Many get quickly discouraged when they see the prices of new Leica gear. Few look at the used alternatives which lower the financial bar of entry to the system. Surprisingly, getting a model one or two behind the current model saves you lots of money...
Exploring Inside an Abandoned Church. Collapsing!
Переглядів 394Місяць тому
Time to inhale the dust and step on broken glass! We explore the abandoned St. Agnes Church in Detroit, Michigan. Opening in 1928, St. Agnes was a Catholic church that served a large middle class community in the Detroit suburbs. After the population declined, enrollment at the church fell and the money to keep a large church of this size was no longer possible. The church and accompanying all ...
Phoenix on Phoenix 200 Film - Real World Test
Переглядів 4362 місяці тому
A new color film from Harman (the same folks at Ilford). Phoenix 200.. What a better place to test this film than in Phoenix Arizona!! I have never used this film before. I did not know what to expect! I go over the exposure characteristics of this film and how it renders subjects in various types of outdoor and some indoor light. Photo gear used in this video: Leica M7, Leica 35mm Summilux, 90...

We head to Central Arkansas for the Total Solar Eclipse!!. We set up camp on a scenic pecan plantation and southern plantation home. This area is dead center in the path of full totality. I take my video camera, the Panasonic S5IIx and set it up for telephoto photography with the Sigma 150-600 zoom lens. Along with the Thousand Oaks Optical solar filter. Remember to ALWAYS use a SOLAR filter fo...

NOT $20K! 35mm Steel Rim Summilux around rural Virginia - Leica
Переглядів 3,1 тис.4 місяці тому
Continuing up the Shenandoah Valley into western Virginia and the Eastern “arm” of West Virginia for this video. We head out with the Leica Summilux 35mm reissue (model 11301). This lens is also known as the “steel rim” lens for its characteristic signature shiny metal rim. The original lens from the 1960’s sells used for over $20,000 on eBay…Yikes! We look at the aesthetics of this lens, its f...

Great video about great Camera.
The M2 was the camera that got me into Leica. I adored that camera for what it was. I’ve since moved on to a 2022 M6, and it’s been a more enjoyable camera for me, but if money was no issue, I’d also have a M2.
I love my M3, but yeah I do wish I had a internal light meter.
Great review! Tks❤
Thanks Gustavo
Well done. I love my M2.
Want a Leica film camera for less cost than the popular M6? Then look at the classic M2
Over heard a comment that all automobiles are technically perfect through the power of comuters No different for cameras; the pictures I have seen on youtube and else where I have been told were by Leica. Had this not been the case I could have assumed they were by Pentax, Canon, Nikon or Fuji Hermès, louis Vuitton and Leica follow the ethos like De beers Diamonds; trickle sales
Leica M8 never failed me
Love it! Go M8!
Fantastic video! Glad i discovered this channel!
Fujifilm X-t1 and TTARTISAN 27 mm, 350 €.
4 minutes into this . Waiting for the lens review .. 😶
How about a Fuji X-Pro2 with 23mm/f2? for under a grand?
that won't do for them because it's not leica.
YES! I used to have a X-Pro3 and XT-4 before I was into Leica. Great cameras, but I got tired of APS-C and some of the primes not being updated.
@@forgottenamericana And they have too many functions that get in the way.
Those new prices boggle the mind. Even the used prices. Yikes!
Oh yes, the pinnacle of high cost! But to their credit they found a path to carve out a niche in the high end market.
@@forgottenamericanaso true.
Wrt lenses, the 35mm are way more expensive than the 28mm. The 28mm Elmarit is a great lens and not all that expensive.
Yes but its 28mm...LOL...With primes, focual length is like trying on a pair of pants. Use what fits you. For me, 28mm is a tad wide for everyday work (One of the reasons why I never by a Q series - 28mm). And 50mm is too tight. Now, with that said, I do dabble in 28mm and 50mm from time to time. But 35mm is my EDC lens.
M3 through a trade and refurb voigtlander 40. Overall cost me about $750 for my setup. Then film, and dev, and scanning. I dev and scan myself so save cost there. That new Pixii Max is looking nice at that price.
You really got the price down with that M3!
I have owned and used three Leica cameras. M1 -- used on a microscope while I was in college. M6 -- used with 21/35/90mm lenses as a supplement to my Nikon SLR film system. M10 -- used as my only full-frame digital camera.
Excellent!! Thanks for watching the video
I bought my M6 NOS (1986 Model) from POPFLASH back in December, i couldn't be happier! Absolutely highly recommend them.
Great video. 👍 I recently switched from a Canon R5 to the Hasselblad X2D, but I also want a compact zoom lens EDC camera, so my first Leica will be the D-Lux 8. I know it’s old Panasonic/Leica tech with a few upgrades, but it’ll be perfect for what I want. Maybe an M will follow in the future.
Thank you Peter! Curious to see what you think of the DLux.
@@forgottenamericana Me too. I keep looking at the alternatives, but I’m not convinced there is one. That said, you got me scouring the internet for Leica Ms last night. Because I’ve already bought a trio of Voigtlander M lenses for my X2D, I’d only need a body.
Absolutely right, a monochrome camera looks different from a color-converted B&W image. The M11M has replaced all three of my 8x10 cameras!
Agreed. The M11M packs a big punch!
I love saturated film . Kodak Ektar is my favorite film. Love the orange cast saturation of this film so I hope to try it. Not a fan of Grain so Maybe I will Schoot it at iso 100 or 50. Wolfen film is way way more grainy than this.
Yes the grain is very intense with this film. Kinda a surprise when you see it’s an ASA 200 film.
Researching the lens I found your entertaining channel. Serendipitous! Does yours have the wobbly aperture ring too, or has it gotten better lately?
It has a little play. I can’t say it has gotten to a level of “wobble”.
So sad!
Wonder why someone didn’t take stain windows out
Lots of that stained glass remains but broken.
Great photos Gary!! Loved the shot at 1:15 of the window.
Thanks! Mike!
Great work, Gary. Keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
Great images! I’m surprised that place isn’t locked up.
I know, right?
Wonderful! Well done - and beautiful images👏👏
Thank you Dan! I want to get some of them printed up soon. 🙂
Another amazing journey,.....thanks Gary. 82 years...and it now turns to this...
Yes, the whole area is very depressed...Very sad.
How much do YOU explore with your camera?
since you moved............zero
I love abandoned buildings. You have some real nice images from here. Monochrom the way to go.
Yes! I love the way monchrom images convey a certain feel that goes well with these subjects.
This reminds me of using respooled Kodak motion picture film, back in the 1970's. it was always a roll of the dice what the color balance would be. Plus a lot of the emulsions had to be processed at home since a typical color lab wasn't able to handle it, or if it could it had to be processed as a one-off at a premium price. Great videos, by the way. Please keep them comnig.
Yes, it was character for sure. Glad you like the channel!
Def haunted don’t ask how I know
I hear that
Has to be Wolfman 😊
Love the black and white images! You have a printer in your camper?
Yes. Have the Canon Prograf 1000. I switched from Epson which gave me lots of problems.
Great images!
Love the images of the mural artist! Nice meeting you today 🙂
Thank you! Nice meeting you to. Sorry I didn't reconnect with you later in the day, the owner's son at the campground let me go hours after we met. I no longer work there.
great channel!
Glad you enjoy it!
I lived there in the early 2000s while attending ACTI. It's definitely 100% haunted.
My grandfather worked there as a quartermaster. My great aunt Helen worked there during WW2.She had also been a massuer for ladies at the Buckstaff Bath House.
What occupation did you have before being let off? I sincerely appreciate how you would be feeling. Things will get better.
It was a corporate executive job where I managed the production arm of a company that made training products in aviation.
👍 PLUG support from AZ! I’m on a steel rim waitlist. Cheers to you!
Thank you!!!
cool
Do you recommend shooting at box speed or slight overexposure like Kodak color negative films?
Looking back that’s actually one thing I forgot to include in the video. I think shooting it at ISO 160 or 125 would probably be a better balance to open up the shadow detail. I wouldn’t go any lower than that before you start to risk over exposing the highlights. There’s not much latitude really with this film to go either way.
At iso 100 to 60 it produces very nice results with a pull in development.
Love these!!! subbed
Thanks Lane. Much appreciated. We need it!!
the band at 6:00 is actually Tupperware Remix Party!
Yes, that's what I heard....Interesting name...
I'm ready....another very well done! the shots of artists and old truck are my favorites....i need to get back to Vulture City,....oh and really like the old cans. contrast for me on those really worked. Thanks Gary, keep on shooting!
I like visiting there.
Dude! Excellent episode and brief on the Phoenix. Tomorrow, I'm heading up to the Grand Canyon for an overnighter, then Flagstaff. I'll have a couple of rolls of TriX, M6, and Q2M. You and yours Be safe in your travels. Until the next episode.
Thanks Chuck!!! B&W at the Grand Canyon is not done enough and is fun!!
Art Deco? More like Art Dumpo, amirite?!?!
LOL...Yes they had to put that dumpster in front.....
Thanks gary, really love the video
Glad you enjoyed it. Much appreciated.
Nicely done video
Thank you very much!
1 - main camera 2 - plantation camera 3 - drone footage 4 - UA-cam camera 5 - Mic audio 6 - kids That's a LOT of multitasking, my friend. Quite impressive.
I can’t say this shoot was relaxing like most of my shoots. It really holds you to the fire. Andrew thanks for coming by my channel. Much appreciated bro.
