  • Just Interloper without the glitches/exploits/tricks. No torch chaining, starvation, tea circles, goating, microharvesting, etc.
    No forge rush "meta", no racing around the maps to all the high end loot points. Just chilling and playing the game :)

    i was sooo waiting for that realization that the rabbit wouldn't do you any good... :D lovely way of playing, this. so hard to draw the line between "what is intended" and cheesing things... the knowledge of how to influence wolf movement by camera rotation for example - no matter how you rotate or not rotate when seeing a wolf, you decide what he does, if that makes sense. catch 22.

    • @ArchimedesLP

      Yeah, they changed the rabbit thing back pretty quickly, it was a bit silly.
      I agree about it being a fine line, there are a couple things in particular like knowing where certain loot tends to spawn(bedroll/hacksaw in particular) and even wolf/bear mechanics that are a bit tricky to police since you can't really "unknow" something :)

    Interloper without cheese exploits? Sign me in! It's a bit like I usually play the game (no endless torches from fire to save matches, pointless grinding etc.).
    Good luck to you.

    Very creative way to keep the game still challenging
    I can’t wait to find out how the next episode goes.
    Keep up the good work

    No glitches? 17 minutes in and TLD says "No" to that plan. I get the spirit though and it's cool, I never was a fan of rock beats wolf so I'm excited to see this. Please don't die as I made this comment at about the halfway mark.

      Ha, at first I thought you caught me doing something not kosher! Had to watch to remember what happened :)
      I'm not planning to use anything except flares(and walking) against wolves. So I could easily die to a wolf this run. It would just take getting surprised around a corner and not being able to get my flare ready in time. Exciting stuff! :P

      You could make the clothes until you reach the end of the sewing kit capability then make a knife. I was pumped if I made a forge run in the first 3 weeks when I started loper so fishing was a big part of my survival.

      Hey Arch, you might know this already, but I am pretty sure you can hand harvest after you chase a deer or bunny into a wolf. Of course, that might qualify as a little exploity nonsense.
      Also, I have been wondering lately if keeping your hatchet fully sharp actually helps with the wolf struggles. I think it should.
      Good luck!

    • @ArchimedesLP
      @ArchimedesLP  6 місяців тому +1

      @@mig_zvm Yeah I did consider this. Even if it's not exploity nonsense, scaring the wolf off afterwards is! So it would cost me a flare(or a struggle I guess. That would actually be really funny, melee a wolf to see who gets the rabbit.)

    • @blacktuxwidow4318
      @blacktuxwidow4318 6 місяців тому +1

      why not just throw the flares. would be harder against many wolfes but more realistic. mabye to hard perhaps lol@@ArchimedesLP

    I liked the difficulty the no tool harvest of animals has on early game. Oh well, good stuff!

    • @ArchimedesLP
      @ArchimedesLP  5 місяців тому +1

      My main complaint is that it only encourages the faster, "cheesy" playstyle of racing around the map going straight for the good stuff. There's no need for rabbits if you just rush straight for the easy food and clothing spots. Not to mention it encourages just going straight for the known hacksaw spawns in e.g. HRV.

      @@ArchimedesLP I did not think of that. I see what you are saying. I admit it was painful when I couldn't harvest rabbits 😄

    Loving the idea of this run. This is how I play. I don't like glitches and exploits. But I'll admit, for my own personal view, I don't consider starvation an exploit because there is something to be said for minimizing your calories and rationing your resources. But it will be interesting to see how this run goes. Excited to watch.

      Thanks! Glad to hear it's resonating with some folks.
      I think everyone's line is a bit different. For example, I don't view goating as being that gamebreaking(even though it's very unrealistic.) For this run I'm going to avoid it anyway.

    • @michaelmorrison4838
      @michaelmorrison4838 6 місяців тому +1

      @@ArchimedesLP I hear you. Goating is also something that I'd likely not consider a "glitch" or exploit because in some cases, I could see it being possible (and since the game doesn't have a "free climb" option or even a jump button) but at the same time, using it to go out-of-bounds, or some of the more extreme scaling attempts... yeah, I can see why it gets a bad rap. Mainly, I am against things like tea circles, micro-harvesting, etc. that definitely feel like exploits because they abuse a game mechanic in a particular way. But yes, excited about this run and looking forward to seeing it develop.

  • @Loonsloon

    nice Arch - I like the philosophy here. Especially the no torch pull. Some of the exploits are actually sub-optimal - like I think by moving and eating, you can maintain well fed and also get your harvesting up without having to starve/rabbit shard. The one thing I wonder is the goal to not power loot the map. It's hard to know when one is not power looting. Like it's a game about looting and walking, so you sort of end up power looting. Know what I mean?

    • @ArchimedesLP
      @ArchimedesLP  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks Loons :) Good point about power looting. It's kind of an eye of the beholder type thing. One thing I use as a judge is how I played the game when I first started vs how I tend to play now.
      In a power looting game I would have spent these 4 days probably hitting something like: Poacher's Camp, Camp Office, Fire tower, walk through dam without looting, Signal Hill, Farmhouse, Plane crash, Mountaineer's, Homesteader's, Miner's Folly, Gold Mine. And I'd probably be on my way to Summit next.
      I'm still moving and looting, but it's not crazy fast multi-map travel. And I'm not just hitting the best loot spots and skipping everything else.

    I really like this vid, but it feels a bit odd while also watching Frankie(:

      Yeah I wish I had spawned somewhere else, it's very strange to have this series in ML while I've been hanging out there with Frankie for so long.
      Perhaps when I'm ready to move on we should just go straight to the far territories. It might be a fun challenge for ZoC, plus we could get started on Signal Void relatively early in the run.

    I didn't mean to piggyback on Turkey's comment. Here is a fresh new comment.
    Wolves seem the most skittish when defending their food for some odd reason. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even attack you after you charged at them. I know all you typically need is a rock-aim, and even without a torch they tend to scurry off.

    • @ArchimedesLP
      @ArchimedesLP  6 місяців тому +2

      Yeah for the purposes of "no nonsense" I would say you can't scare a wolf off its meal without at least a flare. I always thought it was so silly how you dab with your stone and the wolf is like "ok, YOU have the deer then."

  • @joshbruckner7677

    I noticed you tried to collect cat tails without burning calories. For example 05:26 too many calories were burned for NOGOA, but at 07:54 you collected 3 cat tails with only 1 down arrow for callories. Can you expirement how many calories are actually burned by the 2 different ways?

    • @ArchimedesLP
      @ArchimedesLP  6 місяців тому

      That's a habit I originally developed because of the extra burn, essentially walking to the middle of a cattail group so that I can collect all of them without moving. I would guess the difference is hard to measure, definitely single digit calories.
      Interesting that I did it both ways here, seemingly it's already an ingrained habit but not a particularly strong one :)

    Why you choose the female character?

    • @ArchimedesLP
      @ArchimedesLP  5 місяців тому +2

      Personal preference. I find Will's voice annoying and grating to listen to all the time, and dislike a lot of his voice lines. Also, the heavy breathing after running (although very audible for both characters) contains a lot of vocalization from the male character. This used to be a lot worse before they changed it, but it's still irritating.
