Prince Richard is my favorite living royal--I learned about him 2 decades ago. It is high time the Gloucesters get the credit they should have. They are not only hard working, decent people, they are truly caring. Prince Richard's mother, Alice, lived to be 102 years under their care. All the Gloucester children are well behaved. There is truly goodness in the Gloucester family.
Richard & Birgitte may be overlooked by the tabloid press, but they were never ignored nor went unnoticed by the late queen or Anne or Charles or Edward or Mike Tindall, who know genuine people with a deep work ethic when they see them. They were always at social events, like state dinners, and introduced to others by the queen as her cousins or "my family." They can be trusted to be discreet, not promote themselves, and to represent the UK admirably in whatever task they are given. Bravo!
The Duchess of Gloucester along with her husband are such a sweet couple and such a credit to the royal family. I hope they enjoy many more years together in good health just like now. 🌹
My husband developed Parkinson’s. I know they won’t see this, but I send my thanks to the Duchess and to Mike Tindal for their efforts. Hello from across the pond! 💕🐝💕🇺🇸
I have always been an admirer of this couple. They both seem to be charming and certainly just get on with things without fuss or fanfare. They are to be congratulated.😊
I had the great honour of meeting the Duke of Gloucester nearly 20 years ago at a municipal opening. A wonderful and very courteous man. A great example of a hard working royal!

I love that the lesser known but low key working royals are now being recognized. They deserve more press coverage; but what I respect about them is they serve the UK in spite of rarely being heard of. BTW, the current Duke of Gloucester looks good especially when younger. What do you mean "geeky"? He looks like Clark Kent aka Superman :)
When the Duke was a student of architecture at Cambridge, he was seen returning rather late from a party. The student newspaper enquired humorously as to which place of architectural interest he had been visiting at that hour! It was just gentle humour though, they weren't like the press are now, savage and horrible.
She was born Birgitte van Dreus Henriksen in Odense, the third largest city in Denmark 🇩🇰 and the city renowned as the birthplace of the famous Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen. While it is pretty well known in Denmark that she is now the Duchess of Gloucester, there is little about her or her family in Danish magazines that love to speak about royals across Europe, and Danish ones in particular. Allegedly, according to rumors, the late Queen Elisabeth was quite fond of her and her husband, the Queen’s first cousin.
Thank you for this video. I have long admired the Gloucester’s. They are quite low-key. Don’t get themselves into the press or try to garner attention. They just quietly go about their work for the royal family. Ive long been fascinated by the fact that they are obviously quite loved and admired within the royal family. King Charles actually named his sons after that side of the family, in that his great uncle was Prince Henry and Henrys son was Prince William. Best wishes to the Duchess of Gloucester. She is the epitome of class.
Two of my favourite royals (along with the Duke of Kent). They're perfect examples of how those royals a bit further down the line of succession can support the monarchy. The old Duke of Gloucester was the same - the third son of King George V - he was a stalwart support for the monarchy through the reigns of his father, brothers and niece. And the Duchess is a perfect example of how a foreigner can integrate with the royal family and become an important part of it. They're still a close knit couple after over fifty years of marriage, and while they follow royal protocols while on duty, there are certainly a number of photos taken during other times when they can be seen hand in hand or arm in arm.
I had the great privilege of meeting the Duke of Gloucester in 1998 when he officially opened the St Matthew's Supportive Accommodation House for Vulnerable Adults that I managed. He was wonderfully interested in how the house ran and spoke to all 8 of the Residents about the support they received etc. Since then, and before, the Duke with his lovely Duchess by his side has been a full-time working Royal.
I remember the duke introducing the DVD of ‘The Trial of Richard III’, a fascinating programme, modestly pointing out that his qualification was he is the first Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, since that medieval monarch.

had the children of George V and Mary of Teck all died when they did, And Edward VIII had not abdicated, the Gloucesters would have inherited the crown. Prince John died in 1919, Prince George died in 1942, Prince Albert (King George VI) died in 1952, Princess Mary died in 1965, and Edward VIII died in 1970. Prince Henry, the Duke of Gloucester, was the last surviving sibling of Edward VIII, and since he was childless, the crown would have passed to the Gloucesters, Prince Henry died in 1974
No you are wrong if Edward VIII had not abdicated and still died in 1970, the Crown would have passed to his neice Elizabeth as the eldest daughter of his 1st younger brother. That is how the line of succession works if it worked the way you suggested then Henry, Duke of Gloucester should have become king in 1952 when. George VI died
I definitely wouldn't call him a Royal Spare... prior to his brothers death he had a flourishing career in architecture and is so far down the line of succession "spare-ness" is irrelevant. They are such a lovely and dedicated couple.

had the children of George V and Mary of Teck all died when they did, And Edward VIII had not abdicated, the Gloucesters would have inherited the crown.
Hearing about them is way much better than hearing about the pretentious Sussex’s (esp the duchess!).
I definitely wouldn't call him a Royal Spare... prior to his brothers death he had a flourishing career in architecture and is so far down the line of succession "spare-ness" is irrelevant.
They are such a lovely and dedicated couple.
Great role model for all!!! Ethel, Jerusalem, Israel
Her name is Birgitte, not 'Beergita'
Know nothing about them!
