I thought the original table was already fantastic, I had no idea how you were going to improve it. But wow, incredible job!! Congrats to the buyer, excellent buy!
I just got this recommended and saw two of your videos (the pallets to desk top first). I love the fact you're not looking for the biggest profit, but for a genuine buyer that will appreciate the work you've put into it.
Not sure if someone mentioned this alrdy, but Cam at Blacktail Studios uses landscape border for edges when doing round tables and epoxy doesnt stick to it. He also used flex seal when he gets leaks from an epoxy pour. Hopefully this helps if someone hasnt mentioned it alrdy and I hope your next project goes great!
I think having the expectation that something is going to sell immediately as a creator and artist is a challenging way to approach projects. Not everything sells, it may takes weeks or months. That’s only from my experience but I’ve made leather goods that sell the second I put them out and some I think will sell immediately end up sitting for a month or two.
Man blowing customers minds is the best part of woodworking. I love that moment when I pop the hatch on my car and they see it for the first time. 👊 thanks for the inspiration man. Love your channel!
It's such a small thing, but I hear it all the time in the woodworking community and just have to mention it: epoxy doesn't "go exothermic." The chemical reaction that takes place as epoxy cures IS exothermic, meaning it generates heat as it progresses. This is in contrast to an endothermic reaction, which has to take heat in from the environment in order to progress. One example of an endothermic reaction is the one that happens inside those chemical cold packs that people use for injuries. Until very recently I taught math and science, and this is one of those situations where I love that people know the word, but want us to use it correctly. When epoxy is poured too thickly, the heat that is released by the chemical reaction that is the curing process can't dissipate quickly enough. This actually speeds up the reaction, releasing more heat and causing a sort of runaway greenhouse effect in the epoxy. The temperature differential between the top and bottom of the epoxy causes it to warp and crack. Anyway, end of pedantic science teacher rant. The table is gorgeous! I love the white epoxy. I'm not totally sold on the circular shelf. I think that because it's the only curved feature on the table while everything else is polygonal, it draws too much focus from the top, which is clearly supposed to be the star of the show. I think that a general good rule to follow is to choose one element of your design that will be the central focus, and to design the rest of the piece around that that element in ways that support it and match with its style. I think I would prefer a hexagonal shelf basically. I love the white epoxy though! Black is so overdone and boring to me, and the white makes this look so visually lightweight, which I love.
I think you made the right choice with the change of legs, but that bottom shelf tho, not a big fan. I usually take notes from your designs tho! Very very creative!
Not that the goal of making stuff is to make minimum wage, but when you have a YT following at least you can subsidize the cost by using it as content for the channel, which in turn provides some level of extra income. Thanks for sharing the build with us :)
My gut feeling is if you’re going to make more unusual design choices, you have to expect them to take longer to sell, because you’re looking for a more unusual buyer. Let’s be honest, if it was black epoxy it would have sold much easier.
Its all the same table tops. Every one. Different shape just a little but all same. Different color but same design. Let me cut squares or diamonds or rectangle and place them on to then epoxy them in and put legs on it. Its all the same s*** over and over and over. How are you not bored of it? Ignorance is bliss I guess 😂😂😂
for the leak, Blacktail Studio uses "Flex Paste from Phil Swift". He also teaches an in-depth course in making epoxy tables, but in several videos, where he's sprung a leak, he lathers this stuff on the leak and stops it in its tracks. Might be useful for future projects.
Just use better caulking that’ll help stop all your leaks. Might be a little more expensive but it won’t leak. I’ve done both and trust me this helps wonders
Hi Morley, thanks for another enjoyable video. I do a lot of resin work, and I seal my mould by pouring a small amount of resin along the inside of the joints to seal them and let it harden for a day, before doing the main pour. You're affectively sealing the mould from both the inside and the outside, and I very rarely get any leaks. Take a quick a look at one of my videos if you want to see what I mean.
When you said "I'm trying to think of something witty to say" before sanding, it sound like you said "woody" instead if witty.....so mission accomplished XD
If he's not honest about how long it takes a project to get from beginning to end, he'll never have an honest picture of how his business is doing. Repairing errors is part of any business and has to be taken into account for the overall production picture.
I enjoy your workethics and enthousiasm. Your design choices though I have mixed feelings about. But I’m glad you found a buyer. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all. :)
If you are using silicone caulk then it should have worked unless you aren't letting it cure long enough before you pour. I do know they make specific kinds depending on the area and what application you are using it for. But amazing work! I personally would have gone with black or a near black blue epoxy, but I love how the table turned out!
Pretty sure Rubio Monocoat instructions says max grit 150 as higher grit sanding ‘seals’ the pores prevent it from soaking in the fibers and compromising the protection it can offer. I may be wrong?
I think you should use black instead of white next time. Black goes with everything, white, not so much. By the way, I love the table, but wife said no way because it was white. That and Black Forest Wood Company sells a really good nano protective spray. So does Blacktail Studios, but Black Forest is in Canada. It protects the top against stains and scratches. I use something similar on my tables at home and it works really well.
Another great build! Think its worth it for sure! Maybe its better to cover the rockwool in your workshop, better for your health and easier to hang your tools ;)

Try reaching out to a Gallery or contact high end interior decorators, high end Realtors because they usually use staging companies. What is that resin pour just to try to anticipate and prevent leakage considered just mixing a small batch initially, and painting it around the borders, as prep work. It should seal it, and then at that point do more of a deep pour. Maybe that’d be better.

@MorleyKert you are very welcome! If you and your partner ever have time you should check out midland, specifically Fosters farm/ mountain view ski area! That's where I started woodworking myself and my father still does! Might have some salvaged wood for you or other cool things!
I wonder why not use thin plywood and pour epoxy over it? It would be less epoxy and maybe stronger? (Edited, as you explained the reason. I didn't feel like deleting the text but I like the look of it. Cheers from Burlington)
@@MorleyKert i started comment while watching (too into the video 😁) thank you for letting me know. I love the contrast of dark wood and the light epoxy
With epoxy being so expensive why not trying a bucket of water 1st to test for leaks just enough to cover the bottom. Then if no leaks just dry and proceed with use.
since you had to drive to make a delivery, what if you drove accross the border for the delivery? Like cross the border to a post office and ship it from there,.

Great video. I just got my first 3d printer and it's been great. Are there any prints that weren't job specific that you would suggest as a maker? I also just bought that same doweling jig, it had the biggest width capabilities which has been great. I find the glue ups to be a little messy but that's probably my own fault for using too much glue.
