At a TOP Concert everyone is dancing!! They had to be seen live.
Tower of Power puts on one of the best concerts I've ever seen. No one could possibly sit still, their energy is crazy, they perform so joyfully, and they are oh, so good!
The best, seen them many times, they are amazing
@@acooksla I've only gotten to see them once, but I'll never forget it!
'' So very hard to go '' is the BOMB !!!! ❤❤❤
They had a big hit with "So Very Hard to Go." Highly recommended, beautiful soulful sound with a gorgeous trumpet solo.
Hey guys, I just came across your video after I did a search for Tower of Power reaction and I love that you instantly appreciated the feel and impeccable groove of this song. I’ve been a huge fan of TOP for decades and I’ve seen them play live 3 or 4 times from Boston to NYC. They have tons of great songs from soulful ballads to songs with a killer groove like this song. In addition to having great singers over the years, they had one of the best horn sections and rhythm sections, with the classic line-up of David Garibaldi on drums and Rocco Prestia on bass. Rocco was an innovator of soul/funk bass playing, but unfortunately, he passed away a couple years ago from kidney failure.
So many other 70's TOP songs. What Is Hip, Down To The Nightclub, You Strike My Main Nerve, etc.....
This particular album is great! Love it! They often tour with Average White Band and that’s a hell of a funky show! 😎
Loved AWB . BEST soul group to come out of Scotland ever from the mid 70’s
All they need is the Ides of March for a triple threat!
They still touring, to see them is a must!!
Tower Of Power has been around for a very long time. When I was a kid they used to play at our town fair. It seemed like every summer but I know it wasn't. I had to have seen them at least 3 times. They're why I love horns.
"So Very Hard To Go" and "Diggin on James Brown" are great songs by TOP.
"What is Hip" and" Your still a young man", on drums Dave Garabaldi,on bass Marco ptestillo and the best horn section in the business. Yummmmy.......
BS&T have the best horns in my opinion, but these guys are a close second.
how come I missed this song ... hoping and jiving in my chair ... wow!
You’ve got to check out their album “Live and in Living Color” (1976). Even if you don’t react to it, it’s a life long listening album. Iconic musicians. Side note… the TOP horns recorded and toured with Huey Lewis and the News in the 80s.
That’s no trombone, it’s a baritone sax by “Doc” Kupka. They’re still going, never died in the 70’s.
Yeah, this sounds a lot like "What is Hip!" I go back to "You're Still a Young Man" and "So Very Hard To Go"... Bay Area Sound (Santana, Grateful Dead, etc.) was killin' it ! I call this Genre "Big City Band" akin to Chicago and Blood, Sweat and Tears... Love it!
Try so very hard to go or your still a young man if you want 70's tower of power. GOLD
TOP is the tightest band ever they sound like this live
I’ve seen them 3 times and every time they were great.
You can never go wrong with these guys!!
You have to listen to What Is Hip? Released in 1973, you have funk, soul, awesome lyrics, it's timeless!
This is the baddest❤band in the world
Loved TOP for the past 50 years.
You guys have to hear their song, What is Hip? That song is so hot, you better listen to it in the winter so you won’t get burned!
Should try this track “Boys of the bay”. (meaning they are the ones of the Bay Area) you would love the horns, lots of horns and very intense!! Really need to seethe actual performance of it. Larry Braggs is another previous lead singer, the guy is amazing!! I was on a cruise with them with their 40th anniversary and this is when I saw them for the first time. What a show!
This song is catchy as all heck🤘Love these cats from the Bay! You guys should check out the rest of Tower of Power's catalog.
Saw these guys in February in Greenville, SC. Still going strong. You should react to a live video of them, maybe doing "Soul Vaccination," "What Is Hip," or "There Is Only So Much Oil." And the foundation of the band is the Funky Doctor Doc Kupka on baritone sax.
Satan wanted me to sell my Soul. I said "get thee back to hell!"
They still sell out even in Europe, kings of funk! I’d suggest What is hip!?. Then you’ll hear their original line up from the 1970’s. And you’ll be served dazzling solos 😉
I have been listening to them since I was in high school. I am now in my mid sixties. Live, they are unreal. One of the best bands ever, many, many hits….
I saw "Tower of Power" on their 1993 tour, from which their album released in that same year this song is taken from. It was fantastic!! Everyone in the audience was "Gettin" On Down ALL the way to the Ground", as the saying went back in their original heyday of the early 1970s. Two other songs I would recommend from the TOP are the classic "You're Still a Young Man", and the super-funky, deep cut "Squib Cakes".
They will be playing at the big Fresno fair on Oct 11th. always great to see them play.
You pulled deep into the catalouge and left a at least a dozen or more classic ones on the table. My fav: What is Hip
Trombone! That’s a Barry Sax! Enjoyed the video. Song is way better when they use the full B3 Organ and Leslie speakers.
Still together 50 years later! Check out one of the latest versions of "What is Hip" Youre in for a treat!
Founding Fathers of Funk(all came before & influenced Tower of Power)
1) Sly and Family Stone - Thank You (fallettne be mice elf agin) (70)
2) James Brown - Superbad (71)
3) Curtis Mayfield - " Superfly (73)
4) The Meters- Cissy Strut (69)
All absolute must reacts !!!!!!
Love Tower of Power BTW just if you like that you'll love these!!!!!
Woohoo!!!!
Live at tipatinas in New Orleans. So good!!
These guys are known for having the tightest horn section in the business.
I loved /love AWB. The best soul group to come out of Scotland ever. Check them out.
Tower of Power: "So Very Hard To Go" - massive hit for this band(and this fan!!!)😁
Tightest 5 piece horn section...ever!
Also; Earth, Wind and Fire - "Can't Hide Love". Big Band Soul. Average White Band - "Queen of My Soul" and "Would You Stay" , basically the whole Soul Searching album.
AWB! 🥰
SO VERY HARD TO GO!!!
Not a trombone, its a Baritone Sax playing the low notes. “Doc”
Nothing like "The Funky Doctor!"
one of the rare songs where there werent any solos
I loved Disco especially The Bee Gees
This stuff is great, but for me, nothing can tough 70's ToP.
"Walkin' Up Hip Street" has always been my favorite.
super duper
Earth, Wind & Fire -- "Can't Hide Love" - is must listen to!! It will blow you out the door!!!
Now you found my❤!!
Hey, Could you plz react to Mornin’, The Theme from Moonlighting and Just to be Loved by Al Jarreau? This guy is AMAZING
Yes he definitely is!
Thank you for reacting to this. This song was my introduction to T.O.P. when it first came out. Loved them ever since.
This was your intriduction?
Not " What is Hip" 1973?!!
@@jgsrhythm100 yeah, I wasn’t born in 1973. A friend from school played this song for me when it first came out. I hadn’t even heard the name Tower Of Power before. My friend’s father was a huge fan, that’s how my friend knew about them.
@@justann1358 Check " What is Hip" !!!
Yeah I did not know it as a kid.
Music was segregated, Discovered in my 20's.
Also check!
Curtis Mayfield- Superfly
Sly and Family Stone - Thank You
James Brown - Superbad
@@jgsrhythm100 oh don’t worry I dove into that rabbit hole a long time ago and I know What Is Hip.
Thank you for the suggestions. Of course I know both James Brown and Sly And Family Stone. Will have to check out Curtis Mayfield although the name sounds familiar.
Do you know PB Underground or MF Robots? I think you might enjoy their music too.
If you react to Tower of Power I suggest not doing a 1993 track as a first time introduction.
First check ' What is Hip" (1973)
Exactly! This song jams, but nothing compares to early 70s T.O.P. "What Is Hip?" "Down to the Nightclub" and my favorite and funkiest protest song "There's Only So Much Oil in the Ground."
@@thefunkybuddha69 And yes for 93, it was not disappointing but as a general rule always the heyday first.
Do you check James Brown
" Living in America " before Sex Machine I think not 😆
@@jgsrhythm100 Indeed.
@Topjunkie Looks like a killer playlist. I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks for sharing!
SO....................Tower of Power is 100% funky. They are dancing music, to be sure. Next........at some point..........soon..........Earth Wind & Fire - ANYTHING by EW&F. Whew......good stuff, good times
This sounds to me like a clone of a James Brown song, down to the guttural screams you were so impressed with. Hey, can't get any more soulful than that.
Which is why they should check
"James Brown '
Live Tami Show " Out of Sight (64)
Best live performer ever !!!!!!!
@@jgsrhythm100 And just for fun, watch Eddie Murphy playing James Brown on SNL: ua-cam.com/video/xeSwrFKFNFw/v-deo.html
@@PK1971PK Classic but got to be familiar with JB to appreciate the humor !
BTW did you see Eddie in
" Dolymite is My Name"?!
Flipping fantastic !!!!!!!
More , please and thanks ...
ITs the barritone Sax Not the Trombone. And its their secret Sauce. CHeck them out LIVE.
That's not a trobone! That's a baritone sax!
Check out What is Hip!
Check out "still diggin on James Brown" and "Soul Vaccination "
There is no choir, it's the band singing. There's a baritone sax, trumpet, trombone, rhythm section, etc. real musicians.
Try "What is Hip?" ....it kicks butt!!
'What is Hip' by these guys may be the song that you say would be similar, but better.
That's not trombone. That's doc kupka on baritone sax with that scoop sound. Sophisticated and tight musicianship. Tom Tom Bowes from the long island band, Funkfilharmonic.
Listen to the live stuff even current as they’ve aged. They have lost nothing.
Kids, that’s a real band playing real music with real musical instruments, NO COMPUTERS!!!
THE POLICE GUYS STEWARD Coppeland STING and ANDY SUMMERS
ROCCO!!!!!!!!
TOP Squib Cakes. 1981 much earlier funk
You know, guys, James Brown (rest his soul) no pun meant, he would approve of this. It may be Soul, but it has Funk all over it, especially in the rhythm section, which, to me, makes it a Funk fest from start to finish!
Saw them live two nights in row 1994 in Helsinki Finland. I felt better than James Brown after their gigs.
That "Barrump" is a Baritone Sax played by Stephen Kupka, "The Funky Doctor".
The funky doctor!
Two of us have played instruments, and even if we didn't we can still have an opinion. That's kind of how the world works.
@@jimreinking5282 You are correct, I corrected it. Thx
It’s a baritone sax not a trombone. And the second song on the album has probably my favorite Sax solo ever.
I'm with you..never could stand country, and just told my grand daughter, who had some rap crap playing and asked if I liked it.."That's just BS to a beat" Tower of Power has been around for a long time, and always great..thanks again for all you guys do to make me smile!!
Check out the live version.
Don’t change horses in the middle of a stream by T.O.P
So very hard to go.
Your still a young man.
Harump! is a Bari Sax. Check out more of TOP because the horns are fire. This one not so much. Too repetitive is a far crit.
What Is Hip? TOP
what is hip big hit and they had live videos on here
Not a trombone!! Baritone sax...pull up some of their videos!!! That horn line has been on so many albums of so many big names... Look them up... You guys are fun though
lead singer tom bowes only white singer ever had
That is a Baritone sax, not a trombone
93 around area yes tom bowes
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
It's Baritone sax not Trombone
larry braggs 13 seasons as singer only one that long
They're not dissing
-There are better songs that do this ...
-Oh I see, you're not a musician
I'm not sure people would claim this to be one of the best funk songs, let alone one of the best tracks from the band themselves
So Very Hard To Go from 1972 was my introduction to TOP.
