The magnificent space of the Catedral de Léon is a suitably sublime space within which this wonderful music resonates.

Un des plus grands chefs-d'œuvre de la musique du 20ème siècle, et ce n'est pas le seul que l'on doit à Poulenc, interprété magistralement. Merci pour le partage.
I know im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Eden Marshall Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Magnificent - a monumental achievement of pure brilliance by the composer Poulenc & the tremendous performance by Daniel Oyarzabel to bring this to life with skill & the power of his execution! BRAVO! !
Many years ago I had the privilege of performing this work on a 3 manual Austin organ in New York. A applaud this performer's registration which was as Poulenc suggested. Also appreciated the 32' pedal which the work requires. Poulenc was one of the French composers of the period who remained faithful to tonality whereas others like Ravel and Debussy followed impressionism more closely.
My orchestra just performed this magnificent work, and I'm definitely looking forward to performing it again tomorrow. That organ sends chills down my spine. . . 😱
I performed this with a double string quartet and timp..I wish I had this orchestra...and this organ. I played a wonderful 37 rank Aeolian Skinner but I would have loved more colors which you were able to add! Superb performance!
This is a big, bold and passionate performance of the concerto. I have watched and listened to several performances recently and this is the most impressive.
Awesome! I love this entire performance! Pity one can't find orchestra back tracks for pipe organ... It brings the pipe organ to life and this concert redefine the pipe organ.... Thinking out of the box! Just awesome!
I've never been much on organ music. But when I heard this decades ago I loved it. Poulenc first got my attention with his double Piano Concerto. He was quite the outsider, innovator. Worth listening to, if just for something different. The interrupting political ad is offensive.
You are very good and Poulenc is really brilliant. My choir sang "Les Tisserands" in quarantine style. Write this down in the research. You will love it for sure: Corale Novarmonia - Les Tisserands (F. Poulenc)
Fucking wonderful!!!! We need to hear this great work more often. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful skills and education. All of you (s)... orchestra and conductor included. !!
The faster sections originally struck me as a tad poky, but I've since learned that the Leon Cathedral is HUGE, so the soloist was probably respecting the room's acoustics.
I always enjoy some of the inane comments that are posted such as " a little pompous", "too animated". I take it that the people that are making these comments are not musicians or artists of any type. It takes great skill to play the organ this way, or any musical instrument, and most artists/musicians put their emotion into the piece they are playing and usually it shows in the movements of their bodies. If they didn't, I do believe the music would sound flat.
Sustaining temporary vision problems I am writing here in addition that Francois Poulenc, and this Organ Concerto is my favourite organ work of all time! Beautifuly performed. but BOO to UA-cam and their capitalist advert interruptopns!
The advertisements allow us to enjoy these videos which I would likely never view and hear. As an organist, I have been able to hearecordings from all over the world.
Robert, really? Why on earth would anybody defend advertising that trashes us with litter nonstop? Trillions of dollars of it worldwide each and ever year.... What a waste of human endeavor! It’s social plastic garbage.
@@tonylogan4092 Yes, but it allows us to enjoy these wonderful recordings. The television and radio programs we have enjoyed over the years would never have happened if not for advertisers paying the bills.
Nice performance. Very good sound, but very narrow dynamical diapason, as I hear. It is live record, may be to turn off the dinamic processing (or to do it in lesser scale)? Sound will be more rude, but more expressive.
Once again those rude photographers taking pictures with their noisy cams SCHLACK-SCHLACK...SCHLACK-SCHLACK. Definitely unacceptable! They should be allowed to access the concert hall ONLY if their cam(s) have a silent operation mode. Otherwise: out!
Höhepunkt der Langeweile, am Kulminationspunkt des Werkes. Einfach darüber hinweggesaut. Null Spannung.
This whole work is an act of rebellion against the Nazis. That means a great rebellion against the great mordent of Bach A-G-A... in relationship to the Toccata and Fugue in D minor. Francis defied the structures of the German authorities both musical and governmental. This whole work is an act of rebellion. Listen. He threw Pigall at them. He makes it soft when they said make it loud. He slowed it down when they said make it faster. He not only broke the rules, he shit on them. This was done on purpose. This work will stand on it own not only as a supreme work of genius but as a work of great beauty. Fuck... the great mordent. Freedom lives!!! Breathe it in. Freedom comes with a price, a great price. Some have paid this price more than others. The comfort of little things, the smell of fresh bake bread, the ability to wonder, etc., etc. Joy is a wonder. Listen and learn. CVD
I have the score and have conducted it several times. One of Poulenc's finest, in his usual style, though more appreciated in the U.S. than in Europe. "German authorities" didn't hold sway in French culture in the years (1934-38) Poulenc produced this, a time that coincided with a reappraisal of his Catholic faith. Very fine rendition.
One might change the word " Nazi" to German Authoritarianism. Bach laid down a lot of rules. The French consider it their duty to break them. Viva la Satie.
Mr. Stover: This is a great work and Poulenc did a fantastic job of balancing the organ with the orchestra. The organ partsd are delicate leading you through the transitions. More interesting it the tympani that he used for punctuation. I have a recording from the 1960 period. The subtitle is Jeiu de cartes 9 Game of cards) is this something someone made up or was this originally from Poulenc himself?
Hmm - I thought I knew the work intimately, have performed it, have the score for many years, even wrote out all the parts when I couldn't locate them. I don't think the 'Jeiu de cartes' thing is Poulenc's, but maybe a reviewers' comments(?).
@@charlesdavis7087 First you claim this song was against the nazis than someone informs you that's false so then you just replace the word "nazi" with Bach??? Heil Bach! lol
what the hell is with those photographers? There’s a reason they should come in for the dress rehearsal and not the performance. The flash and clicks is absolutely appalling for a concert setting.
Klanglich alles ganz prima. Das Orchester hat die Musik verstanden, toll. Die Orgel. Naja. Wie wäre es, Agogik einzubringen? In meinem Ohr (ich habe das Werk auch gespielt) eine langweweilende Orgel.
That organist was a little pompous The organ sounds pretty good. Remember folks - the sound of the organ and orchestra depends on the final mix of the master tapes.
Remember this Robert; Fuck you and the horse you road in on. This work of great genius doesn't depend on you, you approval or how well it may have been recorded, etc. It will stand among the great works of all time as a work of pure rebellion, defiance, and creeps like you... for all time!!!! Up yours.
Well, This is the first time I have had an offer for sex as a result of making compliments. Did you forget how many amazing performances of inspirational mucis have been utterly destroyed in recording by poor placement of microphones or bad mixing when the masters were made? No. Ah, yes your were likely in the stable with my white horse. Why don't you be a little more respectful of other people's right to comment. Certainly yours has little to do with the subject matter. It does, however, reveal your sexual preferences.
Robert. You are right, crude vulgarity has no place in comments. But, these days, it's not very common for the engineers to stuff up the audio - particularly if recording in a regular, well-known venue. It's sub-professional to expect less and you expect good engineering just as you expect the organ to be properly tuned etc etc.
great orchestra performance and great organist. Bravi
Toda a vez que ouço esse concerto, me volta a sensação da primeira vez que escutei e me emocionando sempre.
A devastating piece of art

My orchestra performed this . An absolutely amazing experience.
Theatre organ sound. Perfect.

Wonderful - the organ sounds just right.
A truly great organ concerto -- magnificent in conception, and magnificent in execution.

Maravilloso, virtuoso, talento puro....
Powerful evocation of majestic motion on a planetary scale.
The majestic power of what it means to be a human being... with all of its faults and wonders. HERE... in the middle of it ALL.. !!!!

Watched a rendition of this seminal composition in St Albans Abbey yesterday, a very movong piece
I’m going to chetham’s school of music in Manchester to study organ and I really hope I get to play this at some point!

What was the rest of the programme?

Carlos Domínguez-Nieto, conductor
