Top tip: invest in some injinji socks. Second: find an anti-chafe solution. I use bodyglide, others use squirrel nutbutter or some other petroleum jelly. A smart watch or garmin is great, but expensive. When I started I just used the free runkeeper app on my phone for tracking. Last tip: you're running too fast. Yes you are, stop arguing. Whatever pace you're running as a beginner, it's too fast. Edit: I say this as someone running a third consecutive 150km week, with 10 completed marathons and another coming up in a few weeks.
I’m in week 3 of your couch to 5k and it’s brilliant 😁👍. Looking forward to doing the 10k and half marathon plans too - as a keen cyclist I never thought I would get bitten by the running bug!! 🏃♂️
I am literally your past. Injured my ACL and waiting for MRI and orthopedic consultation to see whether I will need surgery or not. Already wondering how and when I will get back to running! Stay strong, be patient and enjoy running again!
I’m trying to getting back into running and I would strongly suggest doing 5-10 minutes warm-up and warm down exercises because you can easily get injured! I’m not an expert but hamstrings, shin splints and ankle sprains are common. Perhaps, you can do a video on this and provide some expert advice so I don’t mislead people? Thanks
Make it a habit and get rid of obstacles, e.g find routes that's safe and shaded. Nothing wrong with starting with walks. 10-15min walk to your favorite coffee shop and back, just to get the habit. Extend the walks to maybe 30-45mins and do them more times a week
I struggle with my arms, my right arm swings differently to my left, and this throws out my hips, sometimes I find this twists my body so my right shoulder is permanently forward and my left back, and I lock into this position. Knowing this has not helped me solve it, any advice would be very gratefully received. Thanks for your amazing videos, such an inspiration.
I just started to seriously back to running with structure again. find you clip about running quite a lot helpful me on my way to make it integral part of my daily life. Grateful❤
Hello GTN. You are one of my favorite running channel on UA-cam. Although this doesn't have anything to do with the current video, whould you be kind in considering making a video on how to get back to running after partial or whole ligament tear (ACL)? Perhaps hosting a medical professional as well? Thank you and greetings from Greece! ps. in 6 days Spartathlon 2022!!!
Definitely think an investment in the right shoes is important. I’m a pronator and needed support shoes took a few pairs to get it right. (Kayanos all the way after a flirtation with Hokas). Definitely anti chaffe stuff and good set of ideally wireless headphones help. Second the injini socks (recent convert now). Motivation ebbs and flows, 2 months to my next half and it’s down at the moment but swings and roundabouts happen
I started running this summer with the goal of completing a 5k and within my first month of training I already experienced huge improvements. Coming to the end of summer and running is a fun hobby of mine I enjoy now! One day I'll run a 10k and next year, (it's getting quite cold now) maybe even longer?? :)
Training Tip: If you suffer from ulcerative colitis, Crohn's, or other chronic illnesses that reduce your intestinal fortitude, the repeated vertical jostling can cause gross complications at first. Wear a Fanny pack, and carry some plastic bags and toiletries so you can leave no trace when you need to tuck behind a bush and make.
Hello, great job on the videos! Awesome content brought in an engaging manner. I think regarding the topic of running, a video about running drills would be great as well. Cheers! :)
Winter is coming... so we'll be jumping on our treadmills soon... then having some beautiful scenery to watch will be important! I've got you covered...
Most investing mistakes and losses usually occur when you invest without proper knowledge of the market. I was able to recoup my losses with him. I'm glad to know that many have already benefited from it…..
Can I encourage new runners to do strength training right from the beginning-nothing fancy but keeping on top of stability muscles like glutes to support knees. Not having good alignment for example can lead to horrible problems later on. Learnt this the (very) hard way. 🩼 🩼 and really regret putting off including this type of stuff from the start.
On shoes I would advice zero drop or barefoot style shoes. These types of shoes really improve your running form because they almost force you to land your foot under your body, promoting forefoot or mid foot landing
AAAAAAHHHHHH Elves!!!! Running.... 1st It's not easy as you think! I go through Bath every day and 95% of those who think they are running are NOT! Yes they are moving quicker than walking but they are NOT running. You mentioning walking and running to begin with CORRECT!! Why I think people would be hard pressed to run more than 17 paces correctly. IF IT WAS EASY WE WOULD HAVE GREAT RUNNERS. What's the difference between an average runner and a great runner more than you think but not as much as you think as well. The number 3 comes to mind!!!

Same!
Do you trail run, or just road run? Trail are fun!!
Have a look at the None to Run program -- like couch to 5k but with better pacing and some strength/mobility training to reduce risk of injury 👍
I got 700km out of my $15 k-mart shoes when I started. Just run on the grass instead of the concrete. Even gravel is better than concrete.
Run slow in the beginning, not all out. Do leg workouts to strengthen your quads and glutes.
Right on time, I was just about to put on my running shoes after a four month brake (injuries suck)

Glad you're getting the running shoes back on!

Congrats on returning to running. Do you use a treadmill or just outdoor running? Trails are the best...
Outdoor running on trails as the scenery is much more interesting and healthy!
Any tips of finding the right shoe and also when to know to retire your shoe

Good luck getting back into running!
Love all your videos, I've bing watched so many. Any tips or suggestions for treadmill running. Winters here are simply not conducive for outdoor runs

I loved the 5k series. Hope you do another one soon.

Great video. Thanks.
Thumbs up for awesome video
I always avoided running cause of fear for my knees. Now at 53, I'm considering it. Any tips for an older person getting into running?

Hello ! great video, can you do a cycling version please ?
Any advice on getting used to running in a city? I would LOVE to start running but feel self conscious running beside grocery stores and homes lol
Get out early, I guess😅
If new to running then start running on grass as it's pretty easier their compared to running on concrete
Good advice!
After achieving my target pace of 6min/km my knees hurt after.
5к runing 5 minnts rest then 2k swimimg .. 3xa week

Explore your environment, running round a track ( for me anyway ) can be very boring
