I make amigurumi dolls and I'm planning on making some of these for some beanies I wanna do next. The excess fur can be used as stuffing too! Just mix it with the polyfill. =)

You can also use an x-acto knife to carefully cut the fabric and it helps reduce cutting the fur as well.

i use small nail scissors to start it and then super pointy medium size one. fiskars have great ones
Stuff your pompom with the stray fur and scraps for 0 waste
Xacto knives are great for cutting fur
Have you ever tried using a large sized seam ripper to cut the fur? I’m curious if that would work???

Does the pom pom tunr out about the same size of the circle you cut?
Good question! No, the pom pom will be about half the diameter (or a little more if the fur is long) of the circle you cut.

I hand wash them, or make them removeable from the hat so you can machine wash the hat and gently hand wash the pom pom.
