The oldest black supermodel on S.I. Vogue covers, Elle covers an international cosmetics campaign ads with Versace and Yves Saint Laurent. I don't know what Tyra would've had to do for people to put respect on her name?
I’ve always seen Tyra’s walk as more flirty and youthful. Models like Yasmeen and Naomi were more elegant, classical, and sophisticated. Nothing will ever compare to 90s runway.

She honestly made the clothes she was wearing seem more appealing. Some of these outfirs aren't all that interesting, but Tyra made them something special. Now THAT is good modeling.

One of the factors in fantastic runway back then, is that you still had people in America who had some class, some taste, and a whole lot of chic. Can you spell "chic"? If you know there are folks in the world who understand your POV and love your aesthetic, like customers, it's more fun to test yourself, to push yourself, to another realm. Millennials killed fashion. They killed glamour. They damn near killed sex. The newer, younger kiddos have some passion for fashion, especially Boomer Fashion, but they have awful taste, which they pretend is full of irony. So much taste, and all of it bad.

See Jon Kortajarena for the men's collection. A lot of the boys have little personality, even those at the very tip top, who dominate the camera. I like Chico who is at least pretty. Mr Personality was always for me, Chad White. He smiled at us like he was up there but still one of the crowd. Two presences who can do anything, even scowl, and hold our attention were/are Tyson and Gandy. Both had no problems with Editorial and Covers. But Tyra was a favorite because of her face and her bosooms, and that she seemed to have curves. Lots of people who wear ladies clothes seem to have curves. Of course for supreme achievement in the service of fabulousness, no one can top La Linda. Jesus, reason enough for me to get out of bed. Damn, she was the girl we queens all wanted to be. @Methias I agree with you, but I will make a point that today's models have absolutely no training, finesse, or style to know how to show off the garment. Models of the 90's knew how to sell the garment, not sell themselves. Today it's all about put the garment on, walk up and down the runway, come back, change, and go back out. Fashion shows today are quite sloppy and lacking finesse, glamour, and style. For designers, editors, and photographers, going to a fashion show now is becoming a "task" rather than a real event, and we're all bored. Back in the 90's it was Naomi Campbell, Christie Turlington, Yasmeen Ghauri, Karen Mulder, Helena Christensen, Linda Evangelista and Nadja Auermann.
Tyra does not get enough credit for her work as a runway model. I think that is because the mainstream didn’t know enough about her. The fashion world LOVED her, and kept her on those runways, consistently.

All the names above made millions of dollars while in the fashion business! All are considered legends in the fashion business! Tyra Banks was in their league! Tyra had more interests than fashion and left the fashion business to start a TV talk show!
She was asked to lose 10 lbs and according to her at the time she already was 123 lbs so she instead geniusly decided to reinvent herself and do swimsuit/lingerie instead it was a brilliant move because Sports Illustrated and Victoria Secret really put her on the map

It isn't that impressive....unless the one's listed were doing it. Always looked rehearsed on TB..the models i named did if effortlessly n with regal grace n eleganza. Tb herself said prior to going to Paris her momma n her sat down and watched VHS tapes of the women named on the runway.....mainly Pat Cleveland, Iman, Kimora Lee Simmons, Janice Dickinson n Naomi. She's nothing but a copycat...at best...but it worked well when she was with VS.

Tyra always stood out because, unlike other models, her catwalk was daring and spontaneous, she did not even walk with the same flat gestures that most models make, currently there is a lack of models like them, the best models make the same gestures and their monotomous catwalk
Tyra brings more life to her presentation that matches her fadhions. Too many high fashion models look too stoic and detached from the styles they are modeling.
Tyra was literally my role model on the runway when I use to model. She had so such poise, confidence and a hint of a playful flirt. I wanted to emulate that so bad.

I am a male model, and I have never seen any model male or female, including myself, live off yoghurt, coffee and cocaine; we eat a normal healthy diet and stay away from coffee in favour of water. I think that is your own perception of the modelling world, and it is simply not true. I would agree that modelling is a 'tough' business at the start of one's career, and it certainly is not glamourous until you get to the top. It takes a lot of sacrifices to get to the top and stay at the top. Starving oneself and drinking coffee, yoghurt and taking cocaine will not enable a person to become a supermodel, which is every model's dream. Maybe modelling used to be like that. However, it isn't like this now.
I was a model from 19-21yo, and can certainly say that model's diets were not coffee and yoghurts (or coke*). I would be very jealous of what other guys were eating because they ate lots of junk food and drank fizzy drinks. I wasn't 'lucky' enough to have such a fast metabolism 😅

Always looked rehearsed on TB..the models i named did if effortlessly n with regal grace n eleganza. Tb herself said prior to going to Paris her momma n her sat down and watched VHS tapes of the women named on the runway.....mainly Pat Cleveland, Iman, Kimora Lee Simmons, Janice Dickinson n Naomi.

I am a male model, and I have never seen any model male or female, including myself, live off yoghurt, coffee and cocaine; we eat a normal healthy diet and stay away from coffee in favour of water. I think that is your own perception of the modelling world, and it is simply not true.
I would agree that modelling is a 'tough' business at the start of one's career, and it certainly is not glamourous until you get to the top. It takes a lot of sacrifices to get to the top and stay at the top. Starving oneself and drinking coffee, yoghurt and taking cocaine will not enable a person to become a supermodel, which is every model's dream. Maybe modelling used to be like that. However, it isn't like this now.
I was a model from 19-21yo, and can certainly say that model's diets were not coffee and yoghurts (or coke*). I would be very jealous of what other guys were eating because they ate lots of junk food and drank fizzy drinks. I wasn't 'lucky' enough to have such a fast metabolism 😅
