- Every year on my birthday, I post a video that shows something about my long fitness journey going into older age. Since I recently posted a video of me doing Cha Chuan in 2015, nine years ago at age 69, I though it would be perfect to show me doing the same form today on my birthday at age 78.
While gathering material for editing, I happened upon a video showing me performing Cha Chuan way back in 2008 at age 62, so I added it to the video. This shows a 16 year difference in my age.
Since this form requires flexibility, agility and endurance it would be a good test.
Still standing up straight, on your own two feet, flexible, mobile, remembering -- obviously, perseverance furthers. Happy Birthday!

I'm 54 n been practicing martial arts since I was 15. I think this is totally awesome what an inspiration you are to all of us to show that. We can still practice and be fit as we age. Thank you

Thank you very much. Yes, in the old days I was more empty practicing going through the moves as fast as possible, but with age I started to express the feeling and function more. Thank you for noticing that, it shows your knowledge.

Sifu, even at the tender young age of 62 you looked amazing! I am 65 and still practice martial arts almost daily. As you know, 99% of the people out there couldn't do the form in their 50s let alone in the late 70s. You are an inspiration!!

@@ranjanroy82 Just depends on your flexibility. I would suggest relaxing with the movements and let the power come from basics, flow and root, rather than from strength. And to soften the power when not actually hitting something so that it is easier on the joints.

Hello Kenji. Glad you found me again! Are you still practicing? I do remember you from the old days.
I think I learned two techniques in the whole time I was at a Gung Fu gym. All the time was spent on hard physical training to get faster, stronger, more agile, and more stamina. Not that I was there for many years, but had similar experience with my Hapkido Classes. They do not teach you much technique-wise until you have been there a long time just getting in better shape...

@randallfung5457 For your scissor kick which is clean where would you be striking if you had to use that on a person?
@@dennisrobinson8008 Low to mid height the target would be the groin, and high would be the bottom of the chin. The first kick can be a feint with the power in the 2nd kick. Although in the form, the kicks are practiced as straight leg, actual kicks can deviate into thrust or snap as well.

However a good placed shot to the testicles will down the strongest man in the world, i said to do two in succession... She's a good kicker, so two good field goals to the testicles in rapid succesion will put the most powerful man down.

To me, Gung Fu s not about the movements as much as it is about being in crazy good shape. All kinds of styles and movements are in Gung Fu, grappling included, but the common thread is the crazy training and amazing shape you have to be in in order to use the techniques successfully to defend yourself.
That is why everything has it's own time. Flexibility for youth, Tai Chi for elders. 😀😅🤣😂
But some "elders" never grow up!LOL

I suspect your persistence has been good for your mental and physical health. I'm almost your age and I've been doing forms in a much different style for many, many years. My forms are much more focused on whole body coordination for each movement, with the base of gravity and energy in the hips and almost every movement involving substantial hip torque I don't understand why Gung-Fu forms involve so much leaning and striking while misaligned. I'm not seeing its practicality in the event of a self defense emergency. Most likely this will remain a mystery to me. I hope to see another progress video from you in another 10 years.
