I'm completed new to digital planners such as Notion. What was your initial time investment, in order to get your account set up and functioning on the level you show in this video? Are you building each of your unit studies from scratch? How much time do you spend per week navigating and managing your Notion account? I appreciate you videos, thank you.

Hi, so the initial set up with Notion is very time consuming, in my opinion. I really love it for database management, but, personally, I find myself spending more time getting stuff set up for units than I should. I’ve actually gone back to paper-based planning to keep my ADHD brain focused. 🙈

Such a great break down and way of remembering all the resources. I’ve two quick questions - do you add resources that aren’t books - like downloaded printables/games/physical resources to your data base ( I always forget online and downloaded resources )
Do you ever record/ observe or reflect on Notion ? Or is that something you do in your paper planning or offline.

Hi! Yes, I frequently add non-book resources! I have not consistently used Notion for reflection or portfolio-type work, but that is a goal of mine this year. I'd like to start using my student databases as portfolios.

Wonderful! Have you considered selling your Notion Unit studies? We have a similar teaching philosophy and I would love to get my hands on a few of your units!!

Yes, I might in the future. I currently plan on sharing UA-cam videos with resources etc for our unit studies and am considering a Unit Study Resource Guide.

Thank you for the breakdown. My boys will be 5 and 3 in July. I have History Quest Early Times. Is it silly to start it the first official year of homeschooling?

Hi! While I totally understand your enthusiasm for officially starting a homeschool journey - I would hold off on content-heavy work like history/formal science. There are so many wonderful preschool and early childhood programs available. At newly 5, we loved Exploring Nature With Children and Whimsey Days morning basket. Consider starting a reading program like Pinwheels closer to 5.5-6.

@@homespun.childhood Thank you! I need to remember one of the reasons we're homeschooling is to have more time for them to be kids and have fun. Going to start Pinwheels and Math w Confidence (which he already loves) in the Fall. Other than that, lots of play and organic learning.

@@alenatorres7071 I totally get it! It's so hard when you are just starting out, especially if you live in an area where early academics and "rigorous" schooling are typical (I'm in the greater Boston area and this was a huge struggle for me when we started out). Sounds like you're off to a great start!

Does your course/template allow to make a planner for different kids that they can follow and check off or just for mom.

This would be easy to do with the template, but I don't have a video up on that yet. It's on my list.

I am trying to find something like Trello that is easy to print. I really only need a list of books and their page numbers for the day/week, do you have a more basic template that would allow me to do this? Also, is it easy to re-arrange a weekly plan if something comes up and say we don't get to a few books, is it easy to move them to next week? I like the ease of Trello, but really need to print so I am not constantly on a device. I also need all of our links in the lessons for the day so I'm not also going into Goodnotes to pull up the teachers guide and find the link.

Notion isn't great for printing. Personally, I use Notion for long-term and big picture planning. The day to day stuff I put in my Schoolnest Planner. www.theschoolnest.com/lesson-planning-notebooks
