In this video, I flip through Spellography, a spelling program designed for older students (4th grade and up) who read well but struggle with spelling. Spellography, by Dr. Moats and Dr. Rosow, has recently been reprinted, and it is unlike any spelling program you have ever seen.

Thank you for the flip through.
Would you consider perusing Apples & Pears for spelling by sound foundations in the UK? (They have american english editions.) There are a lot of old comments about it on the well trained mind forum. It is not orton gillingham, but morphemic in approach. It’s open and go scripted, spiral review through word and sentence dictations. Levels a and b really accelerated my child’s ability to write in real life and across her curricula. It’s like really excellent fluency practice for spelling!
We started my 7 year old after she had finished Recipe for Reading. We also review the spelling rule cards fro Spell to write and read, and can analyze spelling patterns that arise it words that trick her up.

Also from the samples it seems similar to Engelmann’s spelling mastery, but much easier for a homeschool parent to purchase.

What are your thoughts on this curriculum vs all about spelling for a struggling 5th grader? We started all about spelling which requires you to start at level 1. We flew through it, but it seems the program has a lot of elements that appear “baby-ish” to my son. That also leads me to my next question, if we do switch to this program would we need to start at the beginning?

Hi! This is exactly who the program is geared towards - older students who struggle with spelling. If your son is a decent reader, this would be a good fit. I would recommend starting at level A. It really is unlike any spelling program out there.
