    Hi. this video is great, but if you don't mind could you tell me why the dual igbt has four wires on each gate when you only need one (red) wire for G1 and one for G2?

    • @DorianMcIntire
      @DorianMcIntire  8 років тому

      +Kenny Dominguez Not really sure but why but since they are using a wide connector it may be they are providing a lower impedance path to the Gate using two wires instead of one. This would allow the gate to turned on faster when necessary.

    So what exactly is the major difference in a traditional power mosfet and an IGBT? Is it the very small gate threshhold to gate saturation size(hard switching)? Is it just a separate but similar technology to mosfets designed for hard switching? Does it handle inductive voltage spikes differently?

    • @DorianMcIntire
      @DorianMcIntire  8 років тому

      +Richard Smith IGBTs are basically devices with a MOSFET front end and a BJT back end. They have the high input impedance of a MOSFET with the low saturation voltage of a BJT. They are designed primarily for high voltage, high current switching.

      I removed this IGBT from a variable-frequency motor drive unit. They are normally very expensive but you can usually find a good deal on Ebay
      Ebay www.ebay.com/itm/1-pc-PRX-IGBT-Module-CM150DU-12F-150A-600V-/181110639712?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a2b090c60
      Hope you get a chance to play with one.

    This device is very used to control high power Induction machines. They can handle high current and voltages levels!. It is mostly used in the automotive industry.
    Question, what is the part number of the IGBT with two devices that you are showing here?
    Do you have another demo with AC motors?
    Best Regards!

    • @DorianMcIntire
      @DorianMcIntire  9 років тому

      IGBT are also used almost exclusively in current variable frequency drives for AC motors in industry. The part number for the device used in the video is CM900DU-24NF. This is a 900 Amp, 1200 volt IGBT pulled from a 600 volt VFD. This IGBT is capable of controlling over a million watts of power!!!

    Thanks for yous primorous explanations, could you please tell me if is possible use 3 toshiba (MG75M2CK1) as a SSR relay, on 48dc water 1500w heater element. If yes, how to wire them. Thank you in advance.Natanael.

    • @midwestmangos2452
      @midwestmangos2452 4 роки тому

      quick glance at the datasheet tells me that your toshiba transistors would probably work, but never use a SSR ( solid state relay) with dc. as for wiring you'll need to look at what you're driving it with and the pinout on the datasheet. Would need more info on what you're doing to give you more info.

    sir,can i use 6volts instead of 12volts as gate voltage.

    • @DorianMcIntire
      @DorianMcIntire  6 років тому

      6 volts may work ,depending on the IGBT threshold voltage for your IGBT, but these voltages typically run higher for IGBTs than they do for MOSFETS.

    Sir,
    Great Job.
    My question is
    1:What is the value of Battery i.e. battery voltage.
    2:Is the motor used over here is Induction motor ie AC motor?????
    3:Can i use this test as a test setup to check whether IGBT is working properly or not???

    • @DorianMcIntire
      @DorianMcIntire  9 років тому +1

      1. The battery voltage used is 12 volts but the device is capable of much higher voltages (1000 volts).
      2. In this video I'm just using the IGBT to turn a DC motor on and off although IGBT are extensively used to create Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for 3 Phase AC motors.
      3. The video was intended to demonstrate the sensitivity and operation of the device but also a method of testing such devices. This same method can also be used to test a MOSFET.

    Actually it is rated for 50 A 600 V. That's why it' 50N60. Most devices that I have run into follow this rating convention.
