(Ah, young people) Defender of the Crown was at the cutting edge and pretty amazing at the time. In fact it, it was so cutting edge because it was rushed to market. Cinemaware got it out the door quickly to be the first really fancy Amiga game. There were no almost no patches to games back in 1986 because they had to be sent out on expensive disks. Therefore this original Amiga version, while legendary, has many bugs that are fixed in every later version.
Geofry Longsword always! I played the #### out of this game on Atari 800XL. It became super easy when I discovered that the jousting had only 3 or 4 patterns that cycled in fixed order - so once you know your current pattern, for the next joust you know how many times to press up/down/left/right to score a perfect hit and win… Played with a friend for a whole night just to see how much money we could collect and how big an army we could get. Good times! 👍
I would love to watch this in a livestream but we have seen a lot of the mechanics by now so I'm not sure about the reception for the next one. Edit: We did miss a few events, like the kidnapped lady. Prove me wrong. I'd love to see more of this game.
I always wanted to play these types of games but was always intimidated. Thanks for giving us a little walkthrough of how to play it doesn’t look too difficult. Perhaps you could show us Romance the three kingdoms seeing how the series is still going to this day (which shocks me there must be a real following for it).
Fun fact: PC version, and some other later ports, had a bit more advanced gameplay in some sections, since Amiga version required to be released first, so devs did not had time to finish some of the game systems. And there were no patches in those old times. On the other hand, none of the other game ports had a graphic fidelity of the Amiga version.
The ST pretty much looked identical to the Amiga, but it was fixed. In the Amiga version, the Jousting was broken, you could just move the mouse into the corner and win every time! (Unless that was a hack / cheat, I just remember playing on my friend's Amiga and could win that way. Tried it on the ST, but got my butt kicked.) But the Atari ST version is technically the best release of this game. Also, a nice fun fact, this game was ported to the Atari Jaguar.
86? I had a C64 at the times. I remember that I gave it in at the end of 88 (the keyboard and the floppy)... in the first days if December, now that I think about it, 36 years ago now... to get a discount on an Amiga 500. Paid 500.000 lire instead on 900.000 for an A500. The 1Mb expansion came 120.000 lire. That Christmas I gifted myself 620.000 lire of a games machine (810€ nowadays' money... more or less). The games? In discount at the nearest news kiosk. At the time, things were different.
Amiga is a super sweet pc line. Not too familiar with it habing grown up in the states and being a few years younger than you. Windows 3.1 is my earliest memory using a PC and playing Prince of Persia on DOS.
Ha, back in the late 80s with the Atari ST and Amiga... it was hard to imagine in just 5 or so more years and both Atari and Commodore would go bankrupt and we would be stuck with Apple and Microsoft being the main choices. If it were not for Linux, I probably would have stopped using computers in the early 2000s...
If you did not attack your fellow faction (i.e. the Saxons) first, they would not attack you. The Normans had always lots of knights and were very agressive. I would always initially conquer adjacent unoccupied territory with only one soldier unless confronted by a superior Norman faction. This would distract the enemy faction while preserving (and building up) your own strength.
I'm curious if it was just my friend's copy or not, but the jousting was broken on the Amiga. Just go to the lower left corner as much as you can and you win every time.
Hey Metatron, please, do you know a game called "Centurion: Defender of Rome"? It's just what you imgagine it is, and I think it would be right up your alley. It's an MS-DOS game from 1990, so it would really fit your channel, and you love for Rome.
I remember playing this on my amiga 500 back in the 80’s too.
I loved this game as a kid. I miss my Amiga 500 so much. Such a sad day when it finally died.
I had no idea video games were this advanced nearly 40 years ago. Amazing

That was so much fun! Please make another clip about Defender of the Crown! 😊
The French guy found the ultimate DotC hack: lots of money.
I was literally thinking just yesterday to seek out some videos on this game! Great minds and all that. Thanks!
I still love these kind of graphics.
Oh I remember this game....a very very very very very long time ago
It was fun! Really enjoyed it! Thanks Metatron
I like these let's plays. I wasn't old enough for these types of games. I was playing Mother Goose.
I used to play the NES version. It's definitely one of my most played games growing up.
I got to remember the awesome 1952 Ivanhoe with Robert Taylor. I love the jousting tournament in this movie.
Comfy late night watch.
You gotta use the roman fire and disease catapult shots!
I never played this game but I'm intrigued.
I'm going to need more gameplay of this

Or do a night where you play several midevil games
DEFENDERS OF THE CROWN!!! This was our favorite Amiga game until we lost disk A…
It was a great game. I didn't get to play it as much as would've liked back in the day, but it was a lot of fun. Even if I wasn't exactly great at it.
I'm liking the game so far.
I played this A LOT. And I've been trying to remember the title for some time now! I will sleep well tonight. :)
I loved that game on the commodore 64 always played wolfram and mastered the joust. Bump down twice and you were in

Man 1986 I remember, that was 19 years before I was born, now I am 19 years old. 0:07 😊😅😅
such good memories
I loved playing the GBA version of the game!

Good day metatron

Defender of the Crown was great. So was the Amiga :)
Next up Centurion: Defender of Rome or Joan of Arc: Siege and the Sword?

Only played the C64 version and don’t think I ever even hit anyone in the joust 😂
Niceee❤❤❤❤
Will you do more play throughs of this?
Yes!
this should be good!
Why is Metatron on a video about Defender of the Crown? How strange. I must investigate.

Yes I have a copy!
What's the best way of getting this game on PC?
I got it on GOG but I don't know if it's still available
Still patiently waiting for your reply to badempanada 🙏🏼
Better than I thought it would be!
