Me rolling my eyes at the obvious folder structure. Im a pro i know all of this. Me spitting out my coffee at the time saving tip I did not know about. Guess I have been humbled. How did i miss / never know that was a thing.
Incredibly boring subject, incredibly useful tips. I did not do this, but my setup is youg enough that it shouldn't be too painful to fix. Thank you SO much for this.
@@SigurdBraathen I did the same thing had a license for over a year before we even attempted to use it lol. Now I use it weekly for my online games and will be using it for in person games once my MaterialFoundry hardware arrives :)
It's crazy how I intuitively picked up those practices after spending a whole year using Foundry. While this video might not help me directly, I'll be sure to link it as a reference for aspiring Foundry DMs among my friends. Love the content!
Thank you so much! I am still just getting started, and I have already messed up, so I am going to have to fix things, but this will make things so much easier for me! All your tips are the best.
I do this the other way round, after years of bad data foldering. I have my core folders set out (Assets, Tiles, Scenes, Maps, NPCs, PCs, Music, etc), and then underneath that, I break it down into game specific folders, or other collection-based folders (if they're generic enough to be repeated in multiple games/worlds). But took me YEARS to figure this out and I used a break in DMing to reorient it into the new format for all future facing games. Old and discontinued games were archived out so I could start fresh
Ooh, I know it's touched upon by making a root "imports" or worlds folder, but also: DON'T SAVE ANYTHING IN MODULE FOLDERS! Easy to do if you're poking around the module for existing assets. I have updated my world/modules 5 minutes before starting time only to realize all the assets gets overwritten with the newly updated module folder. And it was the one session completely homebrewed too. 🙃
Alternately, between campaigns you can spin up a new foundry instance and retire the old fucked one, using best practices to not also ruin the new one.
Found your channel a week ago and just now had troubles with my foundry files(trying to transfer over to my laptop). Crazy coincidence

I actually helped someone! Yay!!
Yes!! Thank you!!! I will have to Restart and follow your example on this!
This is very useful .... if I ever get to buy & install Foundry and get the campaign I'm planning going! =-((
Wait... I already own a Foundry key?!? Which year did I buy that? When will I get to use it?
ADHD & GM is a terrible combination! ='(
It's definitely worth transitioning to if you have any games online, there are so many useful upgrades from something like roll 20

@@AKA_Kira : Material Foundry seems awesome! :)

The time saving tip was great, didn't know that!
Thanks a lot ! I know you saved me hours of pain xD

Yes! Fix it now! Amazing that this helped, thanks for the comment!
Even if you just establish the structure now and use it going forward without fixing all the old stuff it'll wind up being a big help
I even went so far as to have a shortcut to my foundry data folder i prefer that method... but just shining light on folder structure is a great idea!

First step, configure AWS S3. Then use that instead of User Data

Sometimes it’s just FUBAR 😂
