  • In this video I show how i remove the seized crank and its bearing and a look at the damage to it. I seem to have found a lot of aluminium floating around which has got into the oil galleries and underneath the bearings.

Sterling effort! Thats brilliant mate. Really lucky with that bearing. Getting all the pick up off as well is a real stroke of luck. Looking forward to the rebuild!. 👍👍

Thanks Rich. Got lucky this time I think, but I’ve found shards of aluminium and steel floating about so the next vid will likely be hunting the source of that as well, and it’s nice to actually do something worthwhile for a change. I have been meaning to ask you what the BB stood for, for quite some time, now I know 😊 I like the new channel name, it sounds very pro. How’s your gear selector repair holding up ?

@@memybikeni9931 yea the gear shift is bang on now. Amazing what a bit of cleaning does. Glad you like the new look, the BB has stood for a few things over the last 2 years, so i thought i should nail it down.

Very kind comment, I am just a home gamer of course and have my limitations. If I had my life again, I’d definitely train as a mechanical engineer. Nothing like nuts, bolts and spanners to put me in a good mood. Thanks for watching 😊

Hi, I watch carefuly your videos, awesome job with great explanation. I have 535 Virago and some knocking noise at idle, when I give it a gas no knocking, that's first sound. Second sound from engine: After a 5 minutes of druving when oil get hotter engine start to make clicking nosie, very similar to valves sound but it isn't. I check clutch basket it has a little play and crankshaft has end play of 0,34 mm. Is it in specs or out of specs? Also timing on front cyclinder is more than half tooth off. What can cause knockin and clicking? Thanks in advace. BR

I don’t have the service limit on end float for the crank, but that seems a bit out of range, I would expect 1/2 that typically, and certainly could contribute to the knocking. clicking can be over stretched cam chain, weak tensioner. You could try shimming the spring inside the mechanism. The fact you have 1/2 tooth out situation backs up the fact the chain is stretched, so new chain and tensioners would assist, but of course there are to of them. New ones are pricey, and no point in getting used as they won’t be any better. The other cause of clicking when warm can be exhaust, so check the header bolts are secure and haven’t worked their way out. With too much end float, this can cause rod and big end damage, so worth keeping in check, and can also be shimmed with the correctly machined parts, but it’s a lot of work.

Video very well explained and super useful to help me with my engine which has the same symptom, but still runs by luck.
Are official parts still easy to find?

Like many bikes of this age, most parts are still available from dealers, and eBay is a great source, and on an old engine I’m not averse to getting used OEM parts. They’ll be worn but they’ll mate to another old part just as good as a new one will. Time to get it apart and see what the issue is then decide if it’s aftermarket, OEM new or used that’s suits best. Does it go through all the gears ok ? It could be so many things it’s hard to say without an internal inspection. Hopefully something simple my friend.
