Victor Meldrew - two GREAT bits!

- Two classic bits from "The Trial" (1993). Meldrew's long-suffering wife had gone out with Mrs Warboys, leaving him alone in the house, waiting for a phone call concerning his jury duty. Thus the episode was a SOLO performance. And a tour de force, to boot!
Most people say; "This is what I'll be like when I'm old." This is me now....
Same.
both in the trail episode epic absoulutley hillarious
Same
Me too and I'm only 25
I’m getting that way and I’m 43. Mind, if I found a plant in the toilet bowl or a wig in a loaf of bread I’d bought, I think I’d be justified...
As a kid of 8 he was my idol. I wanted to be just like him as an adult, and now with every passing year I get closer to the real thing. Iconic character.
how old are you now ?
I hope you’re not married! Insufferable.
Richard Wilson: absolute legend. A masterclass in comedy acting.
It's not comedy acting, it is now, sadly, my life :)
One of the best sitcoms ever made
Mrs warboys is so funny with her one liners
Chris De Luca one of the funniest
Along with In Sickness And In Health! ua-cam.com/play/PLOqlcRBgAGt3OOc_otTFUuPtiICZmQJwz.html
Fawlty Towers also, just a shame that the UK is too PC for them to make shows like that any more
Amen to that def the best x
I relate more and more to Victor with each passing day it's frightening.
“A young chap. I didn’t catch his name. It may have been Frank Spencer” - what a seriously underrated line. Always cracks me up 😂
'The Trial' is a phenomenal episode, Richard Wilson pulling off a solo 30 minute rant effortlessly.
"Hello...yes I'd like to speak to the manager please and be quick about it."
I use that line every time I ring up to complain about stuff now lol. Thanks Victor.
"No he doesn't but he bloody will shortly!" 😂😂😂
The man is a legend I wish I could say all the things victor says
And a truly lovely man in real life too. ☺
MY OLD MAN WAS JUST LIKE HIM AND THE LANGUAGE TOO LOL
All you need is to get old, then it just kinda comes naturally. Well, it does for me😂.
Don't hold back. Let loose. You only live once. Enjoy yourself. Besides, it feels great when you're in the right. 👍😁
Richard Wilson was made for this character. Something I notice between US and UK comedy is that the Brits put a lot more focus on the character's delivery of lines rather than the witty lines themselves.
SO true!
The difference is easy: British comedy is actually funny.
That and the fact British people have a sense of humour and Americans don’t
He almost turned it down coz he was 53 when he was cast, and Victor was 60. He didn’t feel he was old enough
I dearly hope they show this in the US ;)
The older I get, the more I find myself more aligned with Victor Meldrew than I expect
WHAT IN THE NAME OF BLOODY HELL!
Steven R "I didn't catch his name, it may have been Frank Spencer"
Steven R I just DO NOT BELIEVE IT!!!!!!
I DO NOT BELIEVE IT!
A BBC Sitcom Reference: Richard Wilson Once Appeared In A Some Mothers Do Have ‘Em Episode Once.
Mike Colin Wilde i forgot about that!!!
He may be a grumpy git, but it's not as though he doesn't have good reason for it in a lot of situations.
The only sane man in a world full of idiots
mzytryck the older you get the more you turn into Victor meldrew Lol 😃😂😄
mzytryck so hilarious 😄😃😅😆😁😀
mzytryck the plant in the toilet is so hilarious poor old Victor everything goes wrong for him
@@charlottecole5281 That's something to look forward to for all of us :D
Oh boy, the plant in the toilet scene almost caused the blood vessels in my face to explode because it was that funny. Richard Wilson's appearance in Father Ted was also really funny. Imagine if Victor Meldrew and Father Jack were living in the same house- that would be absolutely priceless!
this man is a total legend
I love the way that he say what in the name of bloody hell had me in stitches
ive seen this a million times. i could recite it word for word. and yet im crying with laughter even now.
I find myself smiling 😃 while watching these so many good memories of sat with my grandma 👵 and grandad watching them. My grandad was a cross between Victor Meldrew and Compo from last of the summer wine. I miss him terribly every single day 😪 😢 😞
I’ve always liked what I call “complainer comedy”, any sort of grumpiness, insults or sarcasm.
victor rocks and tells people like it and sticks up for himself.
I got the boxed set of all episodes for 10 quid but it's a priceless masterpiece of die laughing comedy drama. That solo episode Jury Duty is indeed a tour-de-force. Amazing performance.
The episode where they go to the seaside b&b is incredible
I'm on for Jury service in october not a pleasant prospect
This is me and how i go round my house ranting when everything goes wrong, which is frequently, I'm not like that on the phone, if anything I'm too nice and polite. Thinking I should adopt a more Victor like approach lol 😂
It's me when I'm cooking and what ever I'm cooking ends up slightly overcooked.
😄
When he pulled the toupee out of that loaf of bread, I was laughing so hard, my sides split. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wet myself laughing at this scene
Happy memories of watching this growing up in the 90s
How can anyone down vote this? C'mon!
This episode always sticks in my mind. It’s a brilliant piece of acting from start to finish. Richard Wilson’s soliloquy’s are hilarious.
The toupee in the loaf of bread I.nearly wet myself laughing
Luke Garner I saw that episode I nearly choked to death from laughing too much Victor is a legend 😃😄😅😆
That doesn't occurr every day!
False arm in the french stick, a glass eye staring up at me out of the coconut meringues 😂😂😂
@@aagrille7222 That was absolute genius! I almost got dizzy - I was laughing such a lot!
Love the way he says HELLO! Too
There is something about British sit-coms.... you either love them or hate them.. no in between. This is a perfect example... absolutely priceless.
The thing about British sitcoms is they place a lot of importance in how the character delivers the lines. Whereas generally American sitcoms focus on the witty lines so you could just replace the actor and it wouldn't make much difference.
I seriously pissed myself laughing one night watching one of these episodes absolutely brilliant comedy loved it one of the best richard Wilson is a legend
When you get older you do get grumpier and more empathetic to Victor's life 😂
After not even thinking about this show for nearing 15 years, the first 5 seconds of hearing voice hit a nostalgic vibe I didn’t know was possible.
plant in the toilet that is so Hilarious
I shat myself when I first saw that image! Nowadays I just piss myself!
He did say *"put it in the downstairs toilet"* so they took it seriously 😂
One of my favourite scenes, along with the time the phone rang and he picked up a puppy to his ear instead of the phone. Lol.
I'm binge watching this at the moment,so funny, brillianty written and acted, great show
Imagine Victor Meldrew living next to Hyacinth from, "Keeping Up Appearances!"
actorben She would invite him to a candle light supper and he would tell her to “Sod off!” LOL. 😆
This would be hilarious
Oh what a combination that would be lol 🤣🤣🤣
I think they would argue alot lol 😂
One of the greatest comedys ever
This solo jury duty episode is my favourite one. I think I would even say it is probably the best episode of One Foot In The Grave. Victor Meldrew's solo performance here was second to none. This was 30 minutes of a laugh a minute comedy at it's very best. They don't make 'em like this anymore.
The Trial.
Victor is hilarious
Love Victor what a legend classic comedy 😄😃😄😄😃😄😄
People say, "I will be like this when I'm old" this is me now...
Who would of thought of putting a plant in a toilet and a wig in a loaf of bread?
Priceless
Victor meldrew rocks
Those 5 classic words...
"I DO NOT BELIEVE IT!"
The best comedy ever made. Brilliant writing and acting.
I once taped "what in the name of bloody hell" from this to my text message tone lol
I should do that as my ex husbands and ex mother in laws ringtone.
I think I might do that to unwanted callers Lol
good idea to get rid of unwanted callers
I tape that to get rid of foreign people phoning me up
Imagine that phone going off during an emotional scene at the cinema or theatre
I like Victor Meldrew!
Jax Nean I do to he says what he thinks and doesn't care
Jax Nean the man is legend
This was great, Richard Wilson played this so well hahahaha its not just what he says its how he says it lol
Love this guy, one of 🏴's greatest exports 😂
Comedy is all about timing. And Richard Wilson has impeccable timing
Victor's finest moment.
We should all strive to be like Victor Meldrew.
Frank Spencer! A reference to Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, that is fantastic!
HAS NOBODY REALISED THIS!?
The Real G.O.D., nigga Yes. That is the joke.
Probably my favourite episode and the two funniest moments in the whole series. Utter genius writing and delivery! Hilarious!
It's so funny also because Richard Wilson appeared in Some Mothers Do Av Em in 1978 as a potential buyer fro Frank Spencer's furniture lol!
James Fahrenheit Yeah, and he corpsed like fuck :)
LOL he did! :)
Some people say Victor is a bad tempered, miserable and grumpy old git - but I disagree. He is actually a thoughtful and kind soul who is simply frustrated by, and rightly complains about, the insanity, poor customer service, "couldn't care less" attitude so common in the UK these days. Played to perfection by Mr Wilson and wonderfully written too. It will never go out of fashion, as we will always have dealings with jobsworths, and hopeless companies with appalling service, and those who take no pride in their surroundings.
I liked "Iv'e had a good life..." then stands up "No I bloody well haven't!"
the plant in the toilet totally hilarious
Plant in the toilet! Somebody musta been on some weed that day!
This was just like my dad Bless him
Hilarious comedy,loved it
"A mistake anyone could have made...!?!?"
this is one of the best episodes ever made
Victor Meldrew always reminds me of my dad
This is why we loved this series. Brilliant just brilliant. I don't care if you are white, black, a different religion or creed... This will make anyone laugh..... Everyone of us has either seen or witnessed something like this in their life
Love the series. Who Bloody well won't !!
how time flies cant believe its 20 years ago
i laughed so much i started crying!!!!
I love Victor Meldrew! I understand the frustration he faces lol
"Only somebody's bloody toupee"
Absolutely incredible 😂😂😂
My favourite episode, simply because it's just him on his own.
When I first saw victor pull that now I know to be a toupe out of that loaf of bread 🍞, at first when I saw the top bit of the toupe come out, I thought it was a dead bird lol.
genius writing and brillant cutaway shot
“WHAT IN THE NAME OF BLOODY HELL!!!!!!”
I love love this prog back in the day but still great .
My god its my late grandfather, god rest his soul xxxx
I often find myself ringing and complaining like this nowadays. Always think of Victor.
WHAT in the NAME of BLOODY HELL?!
From cartoons to comedies I have to say this episode of one foot in the grave has to be one of the funniest. The part I like the best is Victor Meldrew’s temper when he uses the phrase “What in the name of Bloody Hell” I find this comedy so hilarious when he finds a plant in the downstairs toilet and a wig in the baking dough. The other part I live is “I’d like to speak to the manager please & be quick about it” he then gives his surname & the “No he doesn’t but he bloody well will shortly “ . Absolutely hilarious
funniest programme i have EVER seen
That’s Not The Only Solo Appearance, The 1st Of 2 Red Nose Day Special Before 1 Foot In The Algarve.
The donkey in the jacuzzi?
This is one scene which will make me laugh every time I see it till the day I die
plant in the toilet Lol
I'd love to be like Victor when i'm old!
Came here because my dad said im worse than this guy with my complaining
Simply the best comedy of all time 😂
so good
The Meldrew is my spirit animal.
Imagine being the manager of both companies on the other end of that phone call 😂
frank spencer? richard wilson appeared as a buyer for frank spencers furniture in some mothers do have em
He was the insurance man after the Spencer's had moved into there new house. Funny episode 😁
One foot in the grave is so much more than Victor shouting "I don't believe it"....it's a shame that most people seem to only know the program for that and not the other many hilarious lines and jokes etc.
I bought the boxset and counted. It's said only twice throughout all 6 series. Some of the best lines are rarely said, or even not actually said at all. (e.g. Play It Again, Sam; Don't tell Him Your Name, Pike)
The first time he said "I don't believe it" (or "I do not believe it") was actually the very last episode of the first series ("Return of the Speckled Band"). It's a catchphrase that stuck, even though the premise of a grumpy old man who has every right to be grumpy considering what happens to him is just a goldmine for comedy!
@@dcarbs2979that’s not true, in addition to this video, he says it when he sees the car in his skip and I’m sure at some other times too.
@@dannylagangonzalez6832 You've checked every episode? That's only one more example.
That's a much harder gag to pull off than it looks!
Victor is the man
WHAT IN THE NAME OF BLOODY HELL , I DO NOT BELIEVE IT !
This is my fave episode
Comedy gold absolutely hilarious 😂😂😂
Victor is a legend 😄😄😄😄😄
Classic remember watching this with the family when i was younger lol
you know when he has the hump his signature is straight to the phone to sort it out haha quality best episode ever was when he stayed in all day
Best sitcom of all time for me. Beats Only Fools for rewatchability
Pure class
That's my favorite episode of One foot in the grave.
And of course Victor Medrew met Frank Spencer in previous life! (Well Richard Wilson did when he appeared in Some Mothers Do Ave 'Em).
