Returning home from work, traffic jams, eat, watch BKXC new video's, sleep, dreaming about these virtual trips, wake up, eat, traffic jams, work... at least this channel is giving me positive energy, keeping me focused for the next spring eMTB and MX rides... amazing footage, positive energy as always. Thx a lot.
That train route is one of the ten legendary train rides. Basically one of the ten bucket list train rides to exprience before you die. It's full route is #7. Amtrak's California zyhper is #6 Amtrak's empire builder ( Seattle to Chicago)#5 #2 is Australia's gazelle.( a train ride from port Adella to Darwin.) (if you are lucky to be on the first summer ride you get a sunset BBQ in the Outback. They even have a special siding just for that)
And I was thinking to myself about how neat it would be to catch a video of the train while you were riding, Brian. That in itself was super cool, then you get out on the trail and you get the flowing trails, water crossings and beautiful vistas......unreal!
Very cool riding! Not sure if someone else has already said in a past video or something, but the reason you have to backpedal to get into the easier gears is to release the "Pauls" in the gearbox. It's the same in my Surmey Archer hub in my Brompton.
St.Moritz region is one of my favorite areas in the entire Alps, if I was rich I'd have a house there! Lakes of Upper Engadin valley are amazing and mountains all around are so beautiful, especially the mighty Bernina group.
Only bit by bit I can catch up with all the great videos you post! This is another stunner! I've been to St. Moritz at the end of last April when I shuttled my Dad to St. Moritz for a 80th birthday trainride to Tirano & back. I tried to do the 673 back then, but there still was too much snow everywhere. I planned to come back anyway, but after watching that video, it is 100% I have to go back :)
Kind of funny how you eliminate the clouds and the grey sky you change the whole dynamic! If you didn't say this trail was from last year's video, I would have never known!
I do the "oh F it!" hard brake for forgotten gloves all the time! Ha ha. This series is very motivating to get out and ride for some reason (I just did 15 hard miles and now I want more!!!)
So you started in Switzerland but ended up in Italy. I recognize you had the final meal at “Crotto Belvedere” in Chiavenna, that’s awesome typical food from Valchiavenna (Lombardy). Great choice, definitely no game at all with the close swiss friends...

Brian, time to get on the emtb train...even Ben is riding one. Imagine how much more riding you'd get in, or far fewer shuttles you'd have to take if you had an emtb...
Hi buddy I wouldn't be happy with the gripshift as well its like going back in time, spend all that money on a brand new bike excellent suspension and then they stick a gripshift on it WTF lol. Great trip tho Brian excellent footage.

Brian. Fantastic ride and the scenery is bloody stunning. Still not sure about the bike and the shifting... Think i'll stick with the lever on my Rallon! What are your thoughts on it now?
The grip shift problem is not an excuse, it is a legitimate ergonomic concern. The same goes for the difficulty of getting into very easy gears -- the ones you are most likely to need *right now*. The system needs work.
You can get used to the grip shift and not being able to shift gears under load, just shift in advance or stop pushing for a split second, for me a bigger issue is the double freewheel (both in the transmission and in the hub itself)
Those are split seconds you do not have in rough terrain. Getting used to the *required* added movements does not make them disappear. You can not anticipate everything, and that is how the standard shifting setup became standard. It just does not care how you fucked up, it will work regardless.
Yep, I agree the ergonomics didn't quite work with my riding position, it felt like a pretty big distance. I'll be riding another gearbox bike in January in NZ and I'm curious to see if the "easy gear" shifting thing will happen on that bike as well.
Your comments on grip shifts are not excuses, I was really surprised that the bike you are riding had them. I thought grip shifts went the way of the dinosaur like friction shifters . The comments you have of them are the reason I thought they were not used any more, because they far inferior shifting system than what out now.
Srs question: when you ride a trail or terrain that you've been to before, do you find that you take different lines or ride a little more ballsier than if you were 100% blind?

Still riding the grip shift gear box bike I see. You ready to trade up your bikes when you get back home? Seems like it would be more difficult to ride to me.
@@bkxc The 2 big problems I see and have had early days with twist grips are. 1/ They were hard to twist and the need to grip hard to twist 2/ The ergonomic of twisting puts your wrist into a position of risk of causing injury. Especially if you hit a hard bump or rock.
@@nickvrancken2131 Definitely dont knock them until you've tried them hey. Yes they're not for everyone I agree that much with, but they've allowed me to ride further and for longer than I normally would on a regular bike while still getting a huge workout.
@@galdwyn .... That's what some of my friends were saying. My experience was that even in Eco mode, it's not nearly as taxing on your legs when climbing. I think you can get your cardio into the target zone reasonably, but I don't feel the fatigue in my legs with the "help" that the pedal assist affords. I'm sure Brian doesn't want this to become an e-bike discussion board, but I will say this. If I'm headed out to a trail system where I want to cover 50-60 miles over a couple of days, at nearing 50, and it doesn't have any bigger jumps, drops, or sketch rock gardens that I LOVE to ride....I might consider an eBike just to enjoy the adventure aspect of it, cover more ground, and not be completely wiped out following the ride.
