Oh Rachel. I love what you are doing for all of us. I have watched Martha Washington and it was wonderful so I decided to watch the intro. It was so interesting listening to your take on MadMen. I am 70 years old. I retired in 2019 from being a flight attendant for 46 years. I started in 1972. Talk about changes. Oh my goodness. Thank goodness for smart strong women. Also after retirement I found out I had Breast Cancer. The treatment I received was phenomenal. I credit this to all the woman and men that fought for and some died for a cure. It has been a privilege watching the people, especially woman, change the world.
Well, I'm not sure my life was a caricature. When I was 18, my dad had to approve my bank account because I wasn't married. My husband and my doctor decided I had a miscarriage even though it was a still birth. Less paperwork that way. I trained all my male bosses. TV and books do conglomerate traits of many into one for the sake of the story, you're absolutely right in that! I am hooked on your series and look forward to listening! My love of first ladies started in 1962 with a school tour of The Smithsonian. I spent every minute possible reading everything about each. I didn't realize Eleanor was so admired now! Thanks again, love some quirky history!
I CANNOT wait for these videos! I love American History and fining out about the First Ladies and needlework of their time is so wonderful! Thank you so much for doing this!🪡🧵
I am so looking forward to watching all of these stories about the First Ladies. Thank you for your interest and your willingness to share with all of us.
Thank you for this! Several times I have tried to get into American history but the emphasis was always on the men. Which is great but… what a great way to learn history by studying the lives of the women that served alongside the men. Just excellent. American independence is in my blood. I was born on July 4th and if you can believe this my anniversary is 9/11. Yeah for real. 😮 so excited for this series. Bless!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Cannot wait! I grew up just a few miles from Mt Vernon on land that belonged to George Washington at one time. So excited! Love, Cheryl
I am so looking forward to these. I love to learn the history behind needlework and have read some books on the history of quilts. Thanks for all the work you have put into this and sharing. Have a blessed week. Lucinda
I really enjoyed listening to your flosstube. I was able to get both recommended books: Martha Washington & Founding Mothers at my library. Thank you so much. Very enjoyable
Like you I have always loved the history of our country. I didn't get the in depth history till I had a class in college about the Civil War thought in Southern California by a Professor from the South. I can't wait for the next videos.
Really looking forward to these videos. I do love history and have read a little bit about First Ladies. Read more about Mary Lincoln since Civil War is my favorite era. Even got to go to her childhood home in Lexington, KY when I was there. I wish kids got more American history.
I can't tell you how excited I am about this coming series. I lam looking forward to each one. I have always loved American history and am always ready to learn more. Thank you so very much for making these videos.
Oh this is totally interesting. I can’t wait to get into these videos. As a 5th and 6th grader I read every autobiography of First Ladies I could get my hands on. Now I’m in my 60’s and you just seriously caught my attention big time.
Very excited you are doing this fun and educational series, from Massachusetts and love all its history, however, only a skim in going to museums etc learning about needle history - beyond the necessities to make clothing or “blankets” out of scraps- Thanks for doing this - my mother was “Martha” so, looking forward to Martha Washington.
My gosh - I'm so excited about this. THANK YOU. I've been holding off watching them until Easter weekend. I'm Australian and studied American History at University for one year. I love history in general also but American and English history is my jam. I can't wait. Thanks so much.
Sooo looking forward to this series. I love history, I love stitching (though appreciate all kinds of needlework). This will be the perfect combination for me - and I have a feeling, a great many others. So thank you. Have to get one of those mugs too.
Heard about the series from Sweetwater Stitcher and I am so glad she shared. I am very much looking forward to seeing more. Thank you for your time and passion to dig deeper and share.
I love this! What a fabulous topic that is so lacking in our culture. I'm in! Can't wait to see them all. How very fascinating, thank you so much. And you are so fun to listen to!
I’m excited about this series of our First Ladies. Barbara Bush was a huge needlepointer and did very large rugs for her home. These rugs still exist!! Thank you for sharing and maybe you should share with Tge Womens Monument which is going to be built in Washington DC. I believe Michelle Obama is managing/leading this enormous project!!
Thanks for doing this Rachel. I agree that we didn't learn alot of American history in school, more state history- it least on the West coast. I'm looking forward to learning about the First Ladies and their stitching.
I too love history & this series is right up my alley. I’ve read books about Mary Todd Lincoln & Mrs. Grant. Jennifer Chiaverini has done books on them. Love the coffee cup.
I agree, you deliver an off the cuff info in general better than some college professors. I love history but have never loved American History -- but the way you have presented material has me all in.
RacheI, I love your idea of talking about the first ladies. I don't know much about them as you mentioned. I just watch the Martha Washington video yesterday. I missed the live program on Friday but I will be watching for them in the future. Thank you for doing this.
So looking forward to this series. Loved the Martha Washington episode. Just finished reading Ladies, First, common threads by Debra Scala Giokas. It only left me wanting more. Thank you for doing the work for us to enjoy!! Take care!!
There are some amazing American samplers available to view online in the catalog of the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Art. I was lucky to see a few of them in person.
Thank you for doing this series. I love reading about Martha and Abigail and what they went through to support their husbands while still keeping the home and raise children.
Hi Rachel!!! Really looking forward to this series. I used to shop at Barbara Bush’s LNS!!! I have never been a big needle pointer but a needlepoint store is a great thread resource!!!❤
I’m really looking forward to learning about our First Ladies. I love learning about history by learning about the people who lived during those times. Thank you for allowing me to “geek out” with you on such an interesting topic. And thanks for all the work you’re doing to put together these stories and connecting it to our needlework passion. I look forward to learning about Martha!
Sounds wonderful. David McCullough's book on John Adams has as much information on Abigail. She was an equal in their marriage, highly intelligent and valued by her husband. I loved reading it!
Love history and looking forward to your series. If you haven’t already listened to “History Chicks”. They have some great podcasts on various women in history and it sounds like something you might enjoy also. Just thought I would pass that along. Thank you for your podcast. All the best!! Sheila
I am delighted you are doing this series. I love American history and have all my life. I turn 80 this year, was born and went to college in New England, and lived in the East till moving West in my 60’s. I was amazed how little people new about or were interested in American history. It really was regional our here. I guess it was living in and visiting all the early places that made it so much of our lives. I went to high school in late 50s - early 60s and appreciate your insight into women of that time. They are so stereotyped these days, and there were so many kinds of women just as there are today. I am excited to see what you have found about their stitching.
I only just found your channel but as a lover of all things history and needlework this is a wonderful idea. I have been stitching for the better part of 50 years and mostly stitch cutsie stuff and use aida cloth. That being said recently I have been dabbling in small samplers ( things like the cuckoo bird) but would really like to do a traditional sampler and possibly stitch on linen. I did stitch on linen years ago but age makes aida much easier to stitch on. I can't wait to start watching the series and my only comment would be if there is anyway for you to make contact with Roslyn Carter ( if she was a stitcher, which I don't know), I think it would be an awesome telephone interview to get with her before she passes. This series is going to be such a blessing to our community of stitchers.
This is so exciting. Such a great topic in this country’s short history. I know the first video is released already but I want to thank you for taking on this part of history.
I appreciate your thought process and reasoning regarding generalizations, and I have always used my other interests as a vehicle to learn about the time periods and places (the history) surrounding those interests. Thank you for all your time and knowledge you’re sharing with us!
You can do a Q&A at the beginning of each video to answer and address things from previous videos. That way the rest of us can learn also. I’m so excited for these videos. Thank you for wanting to do them and sharing your interest with us.
This is going to be so much fun!! I love Early American History & have been privileged to visit Mt. Vernon, Monticello, Montpelier, Mary Todd Lincoln's home in Lexington, KY as well as the Lincoln home in Springfield, IL & the Hermitage. Each of these women are all so different but extremely interesting. I think Rachel Jackson may be my favorite because of the relationship she & Andrew had. Think it's a beautiful but tragic love story & how strong she really was to withstand all the hurt & criticism. It's going to be great...can't wait!!
just watched your martha washington episode, but for some reason couldn’t comment, so here i am. i just wanted to say thanks, and i’m looking forward to more!

I'm so looking forward to the First Ladies series! I love history, especially early American history.

I’m really looking forward to this series. I’ve been a President and First Lady buff since the 4th grade when we had to learn all their names!

Hi Rachel!!! Really looking forward to this series. I used to shop at Barbara Bush’s LNS!!! I have never been a big needle pointer but a needlepoint store is a great thread resource!!!❤
You are so right!! Needlepoint shops have amazing thread selections and are a great resource for stitchers without a LNS!!
I am excited you are doing this series, I like hearing about the way of life for the time period.
So looking forward to your series! I love❤history. This is right up my alley.
