- This simple life hack will change the way you make boxed cake mix forever! I've spent a lot of time avoiding boxed cake mix...it doesn't compare to making cake from scratch, but many times people are in a pinch and only have the resources to make a cake from a box, so I thought I'd share this super simple method to elevate that boxed cake to the NEXT LEVEL! Should I try more boxed cake mix hacks? There are so many more!

After working at a bakery I can tell you they just use box cake and not homemade

YUP. I've heard that as well.
Usually it’s from commercial suppliers, but they do “make it their own” by adding different things to the base mixes.

Yupp. That's one way.
Here's some more tips.
1. Use softened butter. Whip it until it's fluffy and pale in color.
2. Add the 4 eggs to the whipped butter one at a time.
3. Sift the dry ingredients.
4. Alternate dry and milk ingredients in to the egg/ butter mixture.
5. Add more vanilla or another flavor of your choice.
6. Don't over mix.
Never bake at the suggested temperature learn your oven.
I bake at 335.

@@Kim-cz2mq After step 3, add some dry ingredients and mix until combined. Then add some milk, mix until combined then go back to the dry, then wet ingredients. Alternate.
Make sure to not over mix. Mix until smooth then stop. Hope that helps.
the last part is so true. my oven somehow always finishes things in 80-90% of the time they should take. i know that now but it was infuriating for a while lol
Learning the nsture of my oven took a while for me. 350f is around 275f for my oven.

I just made a chocolate boxed cake mix with 4 eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1 stick of melted butter, half cup of oil and a box of chocolate instant pudding. I also whipped 1 can of frosting with the mixer, and used strawberry jam as the filling for my wonderful, best tasting ever cake.
For chocolate cakes, I love to mix in instant coffee in my milk. It enhances the chocolate flavour and balances the sweetness out!
My box doesn’t call for brown sugar but my tastebuds do 🤣

Cold butter using a cheese shredder will take your cake to the next level it had my cake so fluffy and moist

@@williamtrent7815if you grate the butter it creates pockets since sometimes the butter isn’t fully mixed in which makes the butter spread through the cake nicely making it tastes delicious!

To be honest, I still use vegetable oil or Canola for box mix cake because it makes it more moist

What happens if you add both evenly?
@@Khoriander you would get best of both worlds. Okay it's not that simple. You must divide the oil of a third of a cup (1/3). And most Box caked need 1/3 oil or fat, which if you want to, divide that and use the amount for the butter. Best of both worlds
Maybe with the other method also add a tablespoon or two of sour cream, sour cream tends make it moist as well and brings out a tidbit more flavour

I also recommend adding 2 fingers of bourbon to a slightly chilled glass. 3 drops of filtered water. Then drink as you bake.

You can literally add milk or water to the cake mix and pop it in the microwave for a minute. You don’t need oil or eggs if you’re just looking to curb your cake craving. I’ve done it! Oh, and I mean like a mug cake or some thing. Not the entire box at a time.
Definitely! I make mug cakes with my box cake mix and one box can make so many! The ratio is 2:1, For example: If you use 1 cup of the cake mix, add in 1/2 cup of milk or water (preferably milk) and microwave! The texture will be a bit different but it’s delicious! And it definitely satisfies my craving.

keep at least 1/4 cup oil because the only thing it does is keep it moist!

Butter is like 15% water and that extra egg you added is like another 45g of water. I'd reduce the milk quantity by 50g if you make these adjustments

Salted butter or unsalted butter?
In Baking its best to use Unsalted Butter always so you can control the amount of Salt in your Recipe.

Apart from the time saved not measuring/weighing ingredients, making these changes defeat the point of using a box mix.
For all the messing about with butter, milk and extra eggs, you might as well have made it from scratch. Adding these things make it more expensive, and I would venture to say that a bag of flour and a tub of baking powder would come in cheaper than a boxed cake mix?
No. This way is so much cheaper. The butter is really the only place you’re spending more money. But a lot of homemade cake recipes call for things like sour cream, cake flour instead of regular and just a lot more work than necessary.
