I Was Given The WRONG Dimensions

- Miscommunications happen, plain and simple. When a job has a rapid turn around time some of the details are bound to slip by, and unfortunately that just happened to Tay. The building is set to open on the 22nd of September, and they need Tay to fix and finish this project YESTERDAY. So there are many late nights ahead for Tay and Steve...
And that's just one of many moving pieces in this wild week! We still have to finish a custom firepit and a massive custom aluminum sign which also needs to be installed this week! Tay may not be able to enjoy a vacation afterall... stay tuned and find out!
Thanks for watching!

you did nt quit....that's good Character. ( I hope you ended having a great vacation, you worked hard for it...so relax a little.)
Great build on the fire pit! Perhaps a small piece if light gauge with a triangular notch to aid in scraping off the bars on the cook-top after use? A nice little parting gift for the client at very little cost/labor involved. Another very interesting piece!
Why is it so funny to hear someone use the word "fuck" with such authenticity... Sorry... 😆
Very beautiful design for that fire pit. You guys made it safely through it. Enjoy your break now Tay. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friends. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends. Forge On. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Making. God bless.
Helyi! of a week! But you’ll be on vacation soon! This is what happen when trying to condense 3 week into one. Rest is in reach!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 been there and have learned to just laugh at the situation. Laughing helps the heart.
Rough week! Your getting it done! Always great work!!!
I have stopped using customers measurements, too many times I have gotten BS measurements and finished a project only to find out its wrong. I feel your pain my friend...
All the respect in the world for you. I owned my own custom fab shop unfortunately I started much later in life and couldn’t handle the stress and physical demands. Keep up the grind it won’t last forever and your building a great team!
If you remove the long piece of angle iron from the grill. It will allow it to slide across the fireplace. Then you can control you cooking heat better.
I was thinking that too. Could include a couple independent hook handles to slide it without getting near the heat…?
Ah the yellow stained wrists from Tillman welding gloves haha
I so admire your ability to handle the stress of dealing with the customer! Enjoy your vacation!! I did take your advice and opened a beer.
Out of curiosity is his measurements floor to top of his stairs? Like, his last stair being one step from the landing? Could be enough to throw off the angle.
Yep. Bule prints / drawings are merely suggesting. In your situation, I have resorted to having the customer sign the drawings and noted that any change is time and materials. Or I wait until everyone has the finished their rough in. Its always amazed me why other trades have such hard time building to called out measurements. Charge them accordingly. Welders don't run on high five and knuckle bumps.
I've had the same problem with jobs I've done ,so I don't build until everything is in place
Keep it up. Love seeing local work done. 540 native.
30:37 Sit there and open another beer hahahahahahhahaha
lol I own Powhatan Powder & Fabrication close to richmond va, Ive got calipers im tig welding, Fire place door im building, Dog box a customer is coming ur way at the end of the month bear hunting, 14 mat racks for local car wash station. And 12 other jobs on the board . Caliper customer says his wife is going to kill him if i dont hurry up ( not sure how that works) and Dog box was almost done until i realized my helper made the windows down one more bar than they should have so we had to go back yesterday and fix it... When i say your not the only one , trust me your not. Crazy part is your not the only one in VA ...... #VADontPlay
That fire pit is an awesome design I love it
17hrs haha... I remember my first part time job.
I feel the irritation young man, I have been in that exact situation and believe me you were calm compared to what I was. In the end though, it gets done and nobody cares as long as it works and did I mention looks good. Doing great guys hang in there. Thanks for the ride along sir.
Yeah sure you can do it like that, if you want to be taken advantage of every damn time. Nobody would have let that fly I get the wrong measurements after my work is completed, they screw up now I have to fix what I've done? No either they're going to get the parts that they wanted and they can deal with their screw up. Or I can go back and fix it but it's going to cost them double, and I'd say those are the consequences of your screw up not mine.
Awesome cooking top .
I opened four beers, two for me and two for you, while rooting for you, when you had to redo the @#$%&! rails 🥳 I did end up drinking your beers as well though, just to save you some time 😊
I have a friend I want to surprise with a fire pit. I'm subscribing to your channel for sure. Glad a came across your channel
My friend has a round fire pit. About 6ft in diameter and about 16"deep I think it would be gmcool to get one. Shaped like. An octagon. With similarities to this or perhaps a round one. So curved pieces would need to be cut to do that but idk. I'm definitely interested
Maybe you should try sheetcam instead of enroute for the CAM?
How long did it take to fab up the firepit?
Rough go of it on the rails…..keep grinding. Never let factors you cannot control from a contractor get you too bent out of shape. Is what it is.
As a part of the millenial generation, I'd like to apologize for the shortened 17 hour work day. I usually try to get 4 hours of sleep maximum
You can do it! I believe in you! :-D
Thumbs up #295 from NC! Yep, i just watched the entire video. Might have to get me one of those firepits. I can smell those steamed oysters now =]
If you don't wire your plasma table to have a big blue button that says Nut on it to start the table that is a missed opportunity!
when I went self-employed 35 years ago I remember friends, who weren't self-employed, saying I was lucky I could have as much time off as I want, I'd be my own boss, life would be great!! what bullsh*t
Firepit looks grate (Get it? Grate?) :D I won't remark about the railing job, other than to say that you got it fixed - Like the pro you are
Great looking fire pit! Would you consider selling the CNC designs?
why not just put a sheet of expanded metal down on the 1/2 squares?
Did you weld steel all thread to aluminum sheet?
Will that Material hold up on really hot fires? Pretty sure the grate in our fireplace at home is thicker than that and it deformed after some really hot fires... Looks nice though!
I think that's why it was made removable. You don't cook on a massive fire.
Goodthing your young, I did many 17 hour days in my 20s 30s and 40s but in my 60s no no no no.
Your fixture table appears to be more than a metal table with holes I would like to know all that it does
mild steel 36 or 588? Very nice work
Not that someone would be moving these firepits a lot but you could cut some windows in the legs for weight reduction.
My dad was a machinist back in the day (he did more than that, had all his certs and shit, but he built things to fix things that they didn't make anymore) anyway.. i remember one day he came home.. his boss 'boss' gave him a drawing for a special project.. well, the 'boss' confused his ' and " feet and inches, and my old man spent the day building this part.. well the boss was furious and shit on my dad, ...dad wasn't a dummy (quite intelligent as a matter of a fact) so anyway the boss 'boss' ended up losing his job due to the major mistake he made.. dad continued doing what he loved.. Fuckin people
Are we there yet?
17 hr day, its like your not even trying... you've got at least another 7 hrs of work time left.
Remember the GC is never really your buddy. They will always find a way to cover their ass.
Curious if the floor is level in that area. Old buildings like that should have a large fudge factors. Get some rest
Hey it's not your fault!
Always field measure. Drawings are always wrong.
I hope you charged the general for his screw-up.
Your way better off welding nuts to a plate instead of studs
The welding is way easier that way
Now, hear me out... have you considered, simply, ... working harder?
🤣
pretty sure after a couple fires that cook top will be un useable because the bars will be warped uneven from heat... maybe a bar or two in the center running opposite would be more stable... .... or not
I would never fabricate rails until deck and stairs are in place. No one cares if yourrails aren’t right. It’s not concrete let them build to your rails.
Kool episode, fire pit is awesome, aluminum sign letters with the studs awesome, everything awesome. Well...until you were leaving the project and drove all the way back to the shop without your seatbelt on. Bad example for viewers to see. Hell, if you are going to risk life and limb, no real point wearing safety goggles or a welding mask or gloves or any protective gear for that matter! With all due respect to such a smart man...BUCKLE UP BOZO!
THATS RIGHT, YOU TELL THAT GROWN ASS MAN HOW TO LIVE HIS LIFE!
@@jdod64 Well, it appears someone has to help the "grown ass man"! Like putting on a seat belt is a lot of trouble? Please give up trying to be part of the problem, it makes you appear stupid. You completely embarrassed yourself with your comment. And you completely missed my point. Please google the words "bad example".
@@jdod64 it seems so that he can…
Dude come on do you have any balls or what. You're going to let these people screw you over, tell you to go back and fix your work when they're the ones who screwed up the measurement? After having your work basically completed? Nah that wouldn't fly with me, two thing's would have happened. I either drop off the thing's with the measurements you wanted, and you fix whatever it is you screwed up. Or I can go back and fix it but it's going to cost you double. That's how you should have handled it, you're taking their mistake and claiming it as your own. You can't let people take advantage of your hard work.
First!
So much stress and anger. You may want to re-estimate your anticipated longevity.
That railing is frustrating enough but... Unfortunately those weld bumps on the letters are going to be visible from a block away. Next time consider using female stud pads you can epoxy to the back of the letter.
And remember, if you don't hit 60 hours it was a slow week. Keep at it you're doing alright.
Sorry to see you guys stressed out because of bad data from the customer. But if the customer signed off on the original specs, isn't this all billable re-work? I know that doesn't make the 17 hour day any shorter, but it's one thing to rework something because you got something wrong and it's an entirely different thing to rework something because of bad specs from the customer.
Dude, when is this magical 'vacation' happening?
It absolutely should be. Him taking the rail for a test fit is just being nice.
Can we say change order!!!
