The Black Country is a coal mining region in England where Robert grew up. For this one, they were recording at Stargroves Manor, at the time owned by Mick Jagger, when they decided to move outside to the garden to get a different sound. You can hear a plane flying by at the beginning which they decided to leave in. I believe this is the only song on which JPJ plays acoustic (stand-up) bass. They must have forgot to tell Bonzo they were heading outdoors 😉; when he does show up 90 seconds late, he basically sits down and kicks bass for 40 seconds while trying to find his drum sticks. (Edit: I am kidding on this last part).
The black country is a industrial hotbed in England it has a very distinctive dialect, that's almost its own language, the people are known for their warmth and good humour
When Physical Graffiti was released in 1975 all previous records entered the Billboard Hot 200 chart. Led Zeppelin is the only band in history to have six records on the charts at the same time
This track was recorded during the Houses of the Holy sessions, and it was originally titled: "Never Ending Doubting Woman Blues." Recorded outdoors, Plant was attacked by any angry flock of geese while trying to sing one of the takes. :)
You oughta know by now that Led Zep ALWAYS turns on a dime and always throws surprising twists in tempo and arrangements. There is only ever top notch....never mediocre even if it's a song that doesn't really do it for you, you still have to acknowledge the genius that they all are.
Never doubt these guys right lol 😂 I swear you could have given them a fork, straw, and a cow bell and behold,a kick ass jam lol thx for your reactions. Please keep Led Zeppelin videos coming. Rock on bro!!¡
and he did marry her sister. There's a couple live versions from 77 that kick ass... one from Seattle.... The performance goes to another level when Bonham's drumming kicked in. Its an example of how without Bonham the band would not have been as good.
Back in the day me and my friends would jam to this album. Smoking some custom made "Zeppelins" And saying Plant's quote in the beginning of this song" not even yet!" Those were the good ole days!
it starts with a continuation of the studio banter from the end of Boogie With Stu, and if Im not mistaken the acoustic guitar is recorded on a Scottish hillside
This song is clearly about a disagreement Robert must've had with his wife at some point as she would be the "Black Country Woman". The line "I know your sister too" is real since he did have an on/off thing going with her. It originally had a subtitle of "Never Ending Doubting Woman Blues" - but really, if your husband was Robert Plant, I'd say some suspicion was warranted lol! Jonesy would play an upright bass when they performed this in concert; it would usually segue directly into Bron Y Aur Stomp.
@@antarcticorb9197 as well as (most likely) Ten Years Gone. The backstory of a former girlfriend whom Robert "loved dearly" (his words) telling him to choose between her and music, sounds remarkably similar to what had happened between him and Shirley and would be a reason why they broke up and he'd move to Maureen.
@@tektoniks_architects Pish Posh! There are often so many comments to scroll through and there are so many of us who know a lot about the band/songs that there's bound to be repeats; I'm sure I've been guilty of it too. Certainly no need for apologies! Hope you're well. 🙂
I believe you mentioned in an earlier video that this album got something like a positive 98 per cent critical rating? I don't normally pay much attention to critics, but even the most anti-Zeppelin critics had to succumb to this masterpiece of an lp recording.
Another Fun song with a catchy groove. Do me wrong, drag me through the coals, it's all good 'cause "I know your sister too" - lol, Oh Snap!!! priceless. Tomorrow you will be closing out the double album with a drum and guitar focused absolute banger about teenage groupies' or "LA Queens" has they are referred to. can't wait...
Continue on your Journey. Led Zeppelin never made a bad album. Coda is a compilation, So it doesn't really count. Although it's a good record in it's own right. In Through The Out Door is their true Swan Song. And a beautiful, brilliant album of it's own. All 8 and Coda are some of the most amazing Vinyl Albums ever recorded. Amazing band!
'I wonder if there's going to be no drums in this one'? Bonzo meme in heaven looks down with a raised Zeus eyebrow and zings a drum stick your way with a hearty what the fuck mate...
Glad this one didnt turn out to be a "dud" for you (you used the term "straggler," which is even better). I saw the underwhelmed expression you had and said to myself, "well, he'll dig it when the drums kick it up a notch," lol! Bingo. All four of these guys had exquisitely good musical *taste*. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards also did, and would talk about "Vowel Movements," lol, like when was the best time to put in an "Oh!" or "Yeah!" Robert Plant had that in spades, but the others in the band did, too, with THEIR instruments. An example here is Bonzo's cymbal crash. (About 5:20 here) I think it's the only one in the song, but it FITS. You're right about no "misses" here. Or, really , any Zeppelin album. I can guarantee "Sick Again" will be another "no-miss." Indeed, it's a HIT! And then, my God, the "Presence" album and its "flagship," "Achilles Last Stand," which, I think, will blow your ass away, lol!
Another greatest rock group you should react is Yes!!!! Prog Rock.....React to Roundabout by "Yes." It is Fire!!!! Glad to you Love Led Zeppelin!!!! Don't let the Axel Rose of Guns & Roses tell or say to you that Axel is a better singer than Robert Plant.....not true......not even in the same Rock league
He does know his ex wife sister he had a affair going on for awhile ended up having a kid by her her ex wife forgave her n all stayed one big happy family couple of yrs ago they all went on a vacation trip too Morocco

Lol...now that's a cool story!!
Who played the harmonica?
That WAS a cool story lol. I didn't know too much about Bonzo, but he sounded like... just a cool person
@@juliemanarin4127 sounds like Robert. It might have been overdubbed.

"we are listening to Led Zeppelin every day" has been my motto for 45 years
Zep was all about pace. Just when you think you've got the sing figured out ... boom! They're off on another angle. Masters of pace, sight and sound.

Song is about Robert Plant having and affair with his wife's Maureen sister and I believe he had a son with her
