- My first attempt at rolling with my Greenland paddle. I got one towards the end!
Kayak: Eddyline Sitka LT from paddleva.com
Paddle: Gearlap Ipik
Drytop: Hiko Icarus from highwaterhobbi...
Camera: Insta360 X4
From looking at the video, it would seem my two main problems is not keeping the paddle to my chest and rotating the paddle to where it's not flat with the water. Any pointers would be appreciated.
1st id like to say I really enjoy your videos. I was impressed with your offside roll with a ww paddle in the pool. My pointer would be practice side scull some to get a habit to keep the blade on the surface. I'm a Greenland and whitewater paddler from Ohio so I really appreciate what your doing with your videos. Fishaholic is right James Manke is 🔥!
Thank you! I’ll give it a try.
You need to set up first in a tight tuck position when starting out, will help with form. Also try sweeping across the surface. Work on your hip snap and don't lift your head! With practice it will come fairly easily, Greenland paddles are great for rolling. There's a few non tutorial pool training sessions on my page may help, took me about 5 months to get really good at rolling and Im glad I learned the correct technique.
Great video and loved the persistence.. you did it! I would say work on leg drive. Here’s a great video from James Manke: ua-cam.com/video/PFW6zMBfxuY/v-deo.htmlsi=wOe4NEQoC9g0Zr7J
Another tip to get your paddle closer to the chest and not using your arms so much is to put something under your left armpit and it should stay there the entire time throughout the whole roll. That will stop you from using your arms/shoulders. This was a great tip shared to me from someone else 😊 hope it helps!
One of the main differences between this boat and my whitewater boat when it comes to leg drive is leverage. I can get much more leverage in my whitewater boat because my knees are more spread apart.
