I'm seeing this video super late obviously, but my god... I'm obsessed with Les Pauls - I play them and watch videos about them and listen to them literally every chance I get - and I can honestly say I think that is the best-sounding burst I have ever heard in my life. I know tone is also in the hands and your playing is incredible, but you can just hear every note so clearly. As you said, there's so much "air" around each note, it's incredible. And that taper! Oh cool! Great to hear that. I love that shape too, glad its out there to buy. Wish I could afford a real burst but I'm doing fine with my historics too. Thanks for saying hello
@@MOBontv I traded my True historic R9 and some cash for a leftover 2023 Murphy Lab R9 heavy aged and have zero regrets! I had to come back and watch this again. The pickups in that burst are incredible. I had dreams about them last night. Ha! I got a new R9 in October 2018 and I have to say the new Custombuckers come about as close to real PAFs as anything Gibson has made in the last 50 years but there’s still nothing like the real thing. I grew up in the late 80s/early 90s thinking humbuckers were supposed to sound “thick” and muddy but that’s SO wrong! The best ones have that single coil clarity that you’re talking about. You can really hear the definition of each note, especially in the wound strings. Great video my man! 🎶

I played the same guitar at the philly show. Also played the 57 goldtop at the same show same booth. Both were heaven . I went to the show this year in July . The old stuff is too valuable for me, even if I could afford it I'd be scared to play them - much less travel with them. Just got a used Maybach Lester Honey Pie (came with a name!) off Reverb, and couldn't be more impressed, cost less than $2,000USD. The German made "Amber" pickups sound just like a good PAF, clarity like a fat telecaster!

@@MOBontv many people do not realize the time and effort that goes into years, hours endless practice but you deserve credit.few people have the dedication. You did the 59 vintage justice Matt.If you knew how many times at my age had the chance to buy vintage 57,58,59,60 all original gibson les pauls for $5000 you would scream.Nobody wanted them,57 juniors,$75 on 48st manhattan.NO MORE.I was great listening to your video.please keep them coming.thanks
@@josephfemoyer7218 wow! Crazy, wish I was around back them to buy. I was lucky enough with my 61 strat. Thing sounds incredible. Really appreciate the words again and for recognizing the efforts from all these years till now making videos to share. They aren't easy either but I'm getting better at it. Happy to share these tones and my years of playing. That's what musicians do.
Brilliant,
Thank you for watching!
that kossoff les paul was also owned by clapton before kossoff.
oh wow, did't know. The tech didn't tell me too much info on it. Thanks for watching!
There's lots of pictures of him using it with blind faith
Holy Grail tone. I would quit my job, move out of my house, and open my case up, and play in the streets to eat, if I owned that rig
haha, me too
I'm sure some one would let you crash as long as you want if you let them play it !
Sounds like every Les Paul
Great stuff as always, Matt! From Middletown, NJ here. I've recorded at Shore Fire, awesome studio in the unlikeliest of places! 😁
Thanks so much! Love Shorefire. Amazing sounding room and owner/engineer. Thanks for watching neighbor.
@@MOBontv yes indeed. Is Joe D. still the owner?
I would love to know how it was set up and what the string gauge was, cause I think part of that kiss like sound formed at the attack might be due to the action?
it had 10's on it. Action was nice, not super low.
How would you replicate that pot taper on a more modern Les Paul? That is crazy versatile!
they are amazing! I have a set of Vintage Inspired Pots here. They claim they nailed the old Centralab ones. I'm gonna do a review video on it very soon. Stay tuned! And thanks for watching
Love This My Friend.. Killer Job As Always... !@@!

thanks brother George! Great to hear from you. Hope you are well my friend
What is the difference of having the covers on or off , and why do the covers only have one row of posts ?
There is a tone difference in having them on or off. Probably better clarity without them, but I just love the classic look. All mine have covers. Hope this info helps and thanks for watching
The Thin necks I like. The Peter Frampton is another and the reissue of it 3 pickup with thin neck is great in the Les Paul world.
I actually like the bigger necks. To each their own for sure. Fun to try them all! My favorite is that bigger soft V. I had the chance to play one of Paul Kossoff's real 58's. It had that V for sure. Love Frampton too! Can't get enough of his playing and singing. Thanks for watching
Sounds stellar man!!
Thanks David! appreciate you watching
I don’t understand how it thins out when you roll down the volume knobs..... Most humbuckers lose that clarity when rolling down the volume unless there’s a treble bleed resistor. Sounds fantastic Matt!
Thanks! Yeah, its magical for sure. Definitely a mystery
I played the same guitar at the philly show. Also played the 57 goldtop at the same show same booth. Both were heaven . I went to the show this year in July . I compared my 2019 LP 50s gold top to a real 57 gold top and it was very very close. Everyine at the booth was excited about the 2019. I think the new 50s 60s standatds are very special. They feel like a vintage piece. If you haven't played one yet id love to bring it to you i live close lol
I heard the homage to Billy Gibbons and his version of "Brown Sugar" in the riffs!
Absolutely! Love Billy. Hero for me for sure. thanks for watching
Sounds great Matt! your playing is insane amigo!
thanks Gil! You da man
Nice job on Born Under
thanks so much! Love playing that song
Matt..do you have a link to you guys playing Born Under? Went to your site but didn't see it. Love to hear your solo to your version.
there's samples on my site. Under the discography. You can order it on CD, Brotherhood record. Its also in iTunes and Spotify. Thanks man!
Have they ever try to truly recreate the PAF pickup? I realize they can’t use the same wood, though. Just wondering.
I wish they could and would. So far, nutin! Ha, thanks for watching
What what your recording setup for sound with this video? What did the mics plug into, thanks!
Mics were into Neve 1073 pres into protools. There was a room mic too. Its still hard to capture the experience of being in the room, but we sure tried. Thanks for asking
Awesome to see that ‘80s Randall RG head on the pile.
Ha, for sure. Still, that paul is one special burst
Great great great .the sustain was making my cell phone rattle in the beginning riffs . Oh yeah 68 yr wood .wow I hear those lead notes ...great great. Damn hum buc,s have some old bucket the white ones
Thanks! Such an honor to play that thing.
Thank you so much for this, as I'm in the middle of making my 58- 2001 as good as is possible, one I'll start with Brass parts in the(Faber) bridge(saddles and intonation screws) (Post and thumbwheel Brass)and tail piece, and go to VIPots 550, to a .015 uf Bumblebee on the neck, and a .022uf bb Luxe on the bridge., if I could afford it I would buy some Stephen Design PAF's or Wizz low output. oh the stop bar with brass insert and full length bolt brass. I'm off to the Moon. Tone Quest
Yeah man! Get it. I'm gonna try VIpots next in mine. Fun to try and get closer. Let me know how yours works out.
I hope you bought her flowers at least, because you rode that old gal hard! She sounded amazing! If only they could all sound like that.
Right??? ha, what a guitar. Indeed an honor to play it. I just used it on our new record too. Stay tuned for news on the release date. Tracks sound incredible.
Ok so I'm sat here with my own LesPaul, looking down and looking up and looking down, and looking up, and thinking DAAAAAAMN!! Really nice playing bud. To think these instruments were built when music was so very different and distortion was a waste product to be embarrassed about. Strange how life goes, and how we change things, but how telling that a 60 year old Gibson can keep up and blow the tears right of the bluest son of a....
haha, thanks so much! I appreciate the nice words and you watching
Cool !
50s Les Pauls sound like a Gibson semi-hollow and Fender Tele had a baby. The sound is traditional Gibson balls with Fender brightness and clarity.
Dead on brother! Thanks for watching
I feel like if you're playing a burst in order to maximize how cool you look you need to constantly be reaching down to touch a volume pot. Even if you're not moving it. 😂
Sweet
thanks for watching
Amazing guitar
Definitely is! Thanks for watching
