Hey folks, today we're breaking down our TOP 5 favourite castles that either are, or were, under the control of Clan Campbell...one of the most powerful families in the Highlands of Scotland! This is just a wee taster and a quick tour, but we'll be travelling to all locations...when we can (given present circumstances) to share a more in-depth history of these locations, so stay tuned for that later in the year! We're happy to produce more of these Top 5 Clan Castle vids, so let us know in the comments below, which Clan you'd like see featured next! :)
You prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost my account password. I would love any assistance you can give me
@Franklin Jaziel thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm trying it out atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments and I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it! We have loads more content coming soon, so stay tuned and have a great day! :)
I am a Campbell. I only wish I could tour all the castles of my forefathers in person! I recently did DNA ancestry and found my actual Clan's Coat of Arms & Family Crest, and was invited to join the Clan geneology. I'm a direct descendant of Sir John.. My fathers name is John, as my Grandfather and his father too... now I know why :0)
William is very popular along my Campbell line. These castles are beautiful. It's kind of fun to traipse through the ruined ones. And Inverary is very nice to visit.
My Great Aunt by marriage belongs to Clan Campbell. She plays the bagpipes. She and 2 of her children went to Scotland a couple years ago and visited some of their ancestral lands. My genealogy says I am over 60% Scottish. I don't know anything about my Scottish ancestors. This tour was very interesting. Thank you.
Forgot to add...I am of the Sutherland Clan and proud to be a Scot. Wish I could come to Scotland to see where my ancestors lived and walked this earth but due to health will probably never be able to do that. Breaks my heart!
I was lucky enough to visit Inverary Castle once upon a time. Think my friends and I were even able to picnic on the grounds. I loved this video's tour, and format, with history and inside peeks. Every giant a gem, despite being attacked in their "lives"! Thanks for this treat! Oh, and I love the OUTLANDER ad beforehand; it's my favorite tv series!! 🇺🇸💚🏴
Thrilled that you enjoyed and Inveraray is a wonderful spot to be sure! If you're an Outlander fan, please so check out our other videos...might be a few there that you like! Lol! ;)
Great video, facinating to see where they lived, can't even imagine the history that happened in those castles.. keep up the good work! Greetings from Croatia!
Thank you so much for this beautiful Video...My Great Grandfather who Was David Campbell left Peebles Scotland and came to the USA..His Descendants of whom I am one are Proud Scots of the Clan Campbell....
I'm a Campbell. My mother and I are the only ones alive where I'm from. So it's nice to be able to learn of the clan somehow since we don't have anyone around here that knows.
Hey Kathy, glad you enjoyed it and sorry for the hard to read dates...if you need any clarification on specifics, just let me know and pop them in the comments. :) Thanks so much for tuning in!
Fascinating history! One of the people I watch on YT toured a lot of Scotland’s castles and went into the history of some of them. It seems the Campbell’s and the MacDonalds were notorious enemy’s and would attack each other’s castles. The MacDonalds at one time burned a church that had the Campbell family inside, brutal! I don’t remember the name of the castle.
are you clan kennedy or o'kennedy descent? --- my grandmother is "Katherine" Kennedy with a K and she and I are clan kennedy descent! -- but aye my last name is harris
I am a decendant of the Campbell's of Glenorchy. My 14th great grandfather Colin Campbell who was the son of Marjorie Stewart: daughter of Queen Joan Beaufort and great granddaughter of Edward III.
My grandfather my fathers father was Sir John Campbell the Fifth, so many greats grandson of John Campbell the fourth, and descendant of my so many greats grandmother Mary Stuart of the Scots, cousin of Elizabeth the first, who I am the spitting image of.
These residences, have been witness, to every human emotion there is. WE are no different, just born in a different, later TIME. Same as all humans....
Yes indeed, it does! The present castle is on the site of the older (now demolished) Balloch Castle and the present Taymouth was constructed by a branch of the Campbells in the 19th century. :)
Built by the chief of the Campbells of Breadalbane, that being the area in which the Castle stands. 4 main strands to the Campbells, Argyll, Breadalbane, Cawdor and Loudon.
family love maxwell and campbell cousin! - does your maxwell go back to herries? -- if so then there is a clan kennedy and campbell line on herries line
Aye! And I've been lucky enough to visit a couple of the old family piles. Touring in Scotland is wonderful. Though when in Glen Coe I pay in cash, not with a card with my name on it.
Why weren't all the castles protected and saved as a part of our Scottish history? How could the Scots stand by and not re-do them as a part of the history? They're so beautiful and should be saved, redone and protected.
If they are already ruins for several hundred years, it may be that they don't even know what they looked like when they were lived in.....some rehabs are done on old ruins. but generally they can only rebuild where the joist holes are & imagine how it looked way-back-when ! Remember it's all about the money too - who is going to pay for all that restoration ? Most of the castles that have come down with their walls & roofs intact are finished as of the most recent era that they were lived in, so not always very ancient inside - ltho still really interesting to see a video of those - I yearn to own my own castle !
Most of the ruins are stabilized and have some interpretive signage. They're open, for free, for people to explore and imagine who lived there. It's kind of cool to be able to see inside the walls and imagine the building process. You can see where floor joists and fireplaces were, examine stone corbels and still climb the stairs in some turrets to look out over the land.
Virginia Collis .. My thoughts exactly .. such beautiful heritage buildings and an absolute travesty that they weren't looked after and maintained. Please save ALL the castles heritage.

I heard some Europeans find it strange that us in the States take such pride in our heritage from other countries. Personally, I couldn't care less what they think. True, I am American, but am no less proud of the Campbell blood in my veins- as is my mother, and as was my grandfather.
It's like reading accounts of the Balkans, or worse, the Middle East. I against my brother. My brother and I against the family. My family and I against the clan. My clan and I against the crown. No trust, no truth, just naked armed ambition. (Jumps behind lectern.)

Y'all Campbells need to get together- I mean all the Campbells in the world not just Scotland- and rebuild your castle! It's gorgeous!!
I am related to the Campbells. Sir John Campbell 1st Earl of Cawdor, Lord of Lorn, Lord of Thane is my 15th Great Grand Father.
That fact an $1.50 buys you a coffee.
Never trust a campbell! Thats what they say..after the red wedding
This was just stunning, informative and breathtaking! What else can one say but that it's truly an honor to have Scottish DNA.

Watching this beautiful video has truly inspired me to return to my oil painting.
Wonderful! Thanks for watching! :)
My grandmother was a Campbell. We have gone back as far as 1799 to William Campbell. My great grandparents are buried at the base of stirling castle

EXCELLENT, CHOICE OF MUSIC SIR ~ ! REAL music,..........nuff said of modern garbage....GOOD will ALWAYS, and in ALL WAYS, TRIUMPH OVER evil.
Some of the key dates in history were hard to read. Great presentation.

Being a Campbell myself and knowing my ancestors built and lived in those castles I just want to walk inside them and touch the walls.
I am a decendant of the Campbell's of Glenorchy. My 14th great grandfather Colin Campbell who was the son of Marjorie Stewart: daughter of Queen Joan Beaufort and great granddaughter of Edward III.

Lindo país.💕
The castelo of Campwell is very Nice.
You need to look at the Maclean castle, I saw it in real life and it’s really big on its own island !
Its an amazing place!
GGGrandparents were the Campbells and also MacDonalds among many clans in my genealogy..
I was there a few days after my wife and I were married, 25 years ago. This is my clan.
These residences, have been witness, to every human emotion there is. WE are no different, just born in a different, later TIME. Same as all humans....
So, what’s your clan? And what are the circles on the ground etched in the stone as you walk up the small hill to the entrance.
Wish there were some stones to travel through.... I hear them calling lol. Who's with me!?!?!?
I am NOT related to the Campbells, but I have eaten Campbell’s soup, AND I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express
Does anyone know if Taymouth Castle had any ties to Clan Campbell?
Yes indeed, it does! The present castle is on the site of the older (now demolished) Balloch Castle and the present Taymouth was constructed by a branch of the Campbells in the 19th century. :)
@@OutlandishJourneys Do you know how to contact Tamouth Castle for a tour and or to stay...Thanks...

I am a Campbell on my moms side but relate far more to the Maxwell side of my background...smaller clan and Jacobites. This is nice though

I have 3 Sons and one Daughter Campbell.🥰

Okay, Sean Connery was Scottish. From what ' clan ' would he be of ? ......just curious....
Welcome to Golgumbaz 2021
Interesting....... especially as I am a descendant.
Campbell of Lodoun, Campbell of Argyll and Galway, Campbell of Loch Lochlane, Campbell of Duntrune that is where my last name traces to.

450 years of rivals for land and money. 250 odd years since 1746 get over it.

The most hated clan in Scotland after battle Glenlivet clan grant clan Gordon clan Craig they lucky to be alive lol
