After watching the ad in the middle of the build, it honestly confused me how well done it was. Not many people are going to appreciate and ad in their video, let alone admire it, but the editing cannot be ignored. An easy slide into the sponsor with the build itself, by using the mini in the sponsor. It gives the ad more priority while still satisfying the building aspect of the video. And it works even better when it fades into a small video highlighting the minis because it’s still holding on to the main build by using a mini that was in the build in the first place. Not to mention his voice fits perfectly with the sponsorship and outlining key elements of the new/topical project that alines even better with the build. It’s so well mixed, the editing is top notch, y’all are sleeping 100%
I am going to try my hand in making a one shot around your fountain idea. Love the gold spewing snake. Will send it to you to share with your community if you want too.
I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate these tutorials. I am not a gamer, but a 65 year-old female miniaturist, in 1/12 scale. (Yes, dollhouses, though not the usual kind.) But the techniques are very adaptable. It was your video on tiles that inspired me to attempt cobbles for a Tudor Blacksmith's forge I'm working on. Thank you!
This project came out incredible! The so-called "discoloration" in the gold paint job, thematically, could just be a spot where the surface gold has started to cool and/or something has fallen in. From what I've experienced, molten metal has all kinds of swirls where the temperature is slightly different, from impurities falling in, etc.
@@westcoastgeeks7294 Ah yes, I remember that lesson. Day 1 essentials. The Goblin Golden Snake Fountains. The number of times that lesson has come in handy since then is astounding...
This is ideal for Frostrgave's sister game "Ghost Archipelago", so you might want to check that out. Basically the same rules, just in a mystical jungle/island setting.
Same comment regarding Ghost Archipelago once I noticed Frostgrave books in background and heard Jeremy say I don't play games where this would work...
This would obviously look amazing on any lizardmen themed table too! Super cool project. Also, a thought. You could make the snake on it an NPC that is using an illusion to make it's tail look like a pool of gold in an attempt to lure would be looters into their doom. Obviously would need more fleshing out but just a thought. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for always including an extensive list of materials in your videos. You have no idea how many people keep key materials and techniques a secret.😁❤️
I have one simple rule for fantasy painting/terrain building: It's FANTASY, so it's allowed. A pool of spewing gold is an awesome idea, and now I have yet another inspiring idea for my growing Snake Men from Frostgrave force to have in their terrain collection :-D Thanks for such a fantastic idea and tutorial.
When decorating the base...Try wetting the sand and other ground scatter with Isopropal Alcohol before the glue. It will help the glue soak in instead of beading up on top.....Love watching your builds!
I really love jungle terrains! Hey moss and little plants will grow specially between the tiles, stones, bricks, so you might want to add some tea leaves on the wall as well, but it's only an idea and I totally enjoyed watching this video, it looks awesome! Those colors on the snake are great.
At 11:40 you pour on watered down mod podge, if you give it a quick spray of watered down alcohol first (I have a bottle of 70% isopropanol mixed with water), the watered down mod podge/pva soaks right through instead of pooling on top. Gives a super solid result once dry and gives less of a mess while pouring. Beautiful build as always!
That tentacled tree figure reminds of a Vincent Price movie I saw back in the 1980's and I cannot remember the title, but he was raising a blood-feeding tree and sacrificing people to feed it.
In the 1975 movie 'Doc Savage: The Man Of Bronze', there is a pool of gold in the South American jungle. It's a pretty cool idea. Your model is excellent. Maybe it could be used with some 'Pulp' figures.
Glad I came across this video. I’ve been intimidated by going airbrush but you make a great point. Terrain building is a great “learn to use “ for airbrushing.
The liquid gold looks amazing, as does the snake skin texture. The green bricks definitely looks cool in a jungle/swamp setting - reminds me of the levels in Quake where you have the zombies in the water - very cool!
You can find really wild cheap plastic foliage in the pets section of big box stores among the aquarium supplies. Some are already wildly colored and make for good alien plants in sci-fi settings, but you can paint them for a more "natural" look.
I can see Indiana Jones doing something there! I guess an open jungle area would be expected to experience regular downpours, so the water fx adds some verisimilitude. Love the colour palette, fits nicely with a jungle theme and contrasts nicely with the gold. Well done Sir!
Wow. As always a great job. I've been thinking of a kind of spider dungeon all the time for a few episodes. Perhaps an old burial chamber in which large spiders creatures have now nested. Hey Jeremy, I've been watching your videos for about a year but haven't really commented. I want to thank you for making great videos, but also for much more than that. I'm a complete amateur to crafting. I have no background in art or design. Your videos have helped me to become much more confident in my abilities. While you have given my tons of awesome ideas, the biggest takeaway I've had is that it's alright to mess up. Surfing through Reddit and other places people can be extremely negative or quick to jump to reasons why a paint job or craft is subpar. I'm pretty sensitive to that kind of criticism, especially since I already know my art is pretty beginner-level. Seeing you mess up has been SO helpful to me. I know it sounds weird, but your willingness to admit a mistake without getting down on yourself or hiding it really encourages me to work through my mistakes rather than scrapping them immediately. Beyond that, your "good enough" attitude to crafting has really helped me to calm down and be more accepting. My painting or creating doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be good enough. The best creators are not always the best teachers, but you manage to be an amazing creator and a great teacher. Your humility and sense of fun is what inspired me to start crafting more than any video of an impressive painting ever could. I know it's random to bring up in this video, but I wanted to say it and your statement about painting to impress the average person brought up some of these thoughts and I figured that if I mentioned it on a more recent video it would be less random. Long story short: thank you.
Nice video! I like the fact you built around a piece for no other reason than you liked it. Great work, I've recently refurbished my air compressor to use the old airbrush for some scenery.
I'm doing an "armored fighter vs dragon" diorama that will be contained within a fake, 9 1/8" × 13 1/2" "hollowed out spell-book" once it's all done. I know I'm not re-inventing the wheel, but it's been a few years since I've taken on this size of a project-- so, I'm a bit "shaky" on getting started again. Been watching a good portion of your videos since I discovered them, and it's helped a LOT... I love your "down and dirty" style that never the less nets incredible results... I had a best friend in high school (sadly passed on now) who use to work like that, and I managed to learn a lot from him-- and build my own style off of that... With him no longer around, I've been looking all over for a concept I can adapt/use as a template for my own ideas, and to "get my feet wet" again... And I think your badass "Snake Temple" is perfect... Thanks for sharing your art with us. You're helping people in more ways than you know...
The liquid gold effect might work well for a foundry. Maybe stick some cranes suspending great iron pots, or spouts in the walls leaking the molten gold into a vat. Doubles as an environmental hazard. Add some object source lighting, since molten metal is going to glow, probably. I could see something like that in a dwarven fortress or forgeworld location in Warhammer 40K.
Huge thanks to you, Jeremy! Another amazing project that shows how this hobby can be surprisingly funny and new every day! Love your bubbles in the pool... Great job, mate!
This is great. I am getting ready to write a portion of a home brew that is going to be taking place in a jungle area, and this has given me some ideas on how the entrance of the dungeon is to look like. I think I will make it that of a large snake head where they have to go through the mouth.... think Skeletor's Snake Mountain.
I love it!!! I’ve also been eyeballing an airbrush for about two years now. I’m getting close to pulling the trigger. Truth is, I love building way more than painting. Although, after the project is painted and completed....it’s pretty f’ing rewarding.
It's funny you say that. I kind of touch on exactly that in next weeks video. It's sort of a love letter to how the airbrush made me go from hating to loving the painting portion of a project.
Unlikely to see much tabletop use? How about running "The Quest For Liquid Gold" in which the PCs are searching for a dozen long-lost wells of magical spell components? Each adventure could focus on finding a new well, and could end with an encounter centred around that terrain piece. Each could be set in a different location, with the "jungle" being unnatural growth caused by the magical energy of the gold. That's a great looking terrain piece and deserves some exposure on the tabletop.
I’ve watched all your videos but I just got back into crafting and thought, hmm maybe I’ll get an airbrush...and then this video pops up and you sold me on airbrushing. Thanks for great content.
This looks so sick. I do agree that this, while cool, is one of those "I may use this once and then never again" pieces. To combat this, you could probably sacrifice a tiny amount of "looks" for increased playability by not attaching the mini to the pool and instead just leave that as an interchangeable option. Need a overgrown jungle snake god worshippers fountain? Big snake statue mini. Fountain of youth? Maybe some kind of angelic statue mini. Just a random pool of water in a dungeon? No mini I guess? The options would then become limitless. Not that this project needs any improvement, Its already super sick as is. Thanks for the amazing content!
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial That is true. Thats when DMs law would come into play. "I know that the terrain piece has liquid gold in it, but I SAID that it was full of crystal clear water. I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE REPAINTING IT, GERALD!" lol.
Now take those random sized/shaped foam stones, make them real stones, enlarge them till they weigh between 20 and 100 lbs (depending on project expectations) add 80-95*F and very signifacant humidity and stacking those are part of my day job. Granted to alot of folks thats not ridiculously hot, but man o man does it get humid. And the stones are REALATIVELY small. 1 day of doin it and gives u a WHOLE new appreciation for the S.American temples, the pyramids, and the great wall. That said i must say you created a very nice wall that is very fitting in a jungle setting. Ive seen worse for dang sure hahaha. I also actually quite liked how the water effexts gave the gold a dingy feel. Good job.
In the campaign world I'm working on, magic is used like technology in a ww2-type conflict. And the best fuel is a liquified version of gold, rather than oil. Gold is a physics form of magic after all, that's why you need all those gold pieces to craft magic items. A fountain or derrick with liquid gold is absolutely perfect for that, great vid!
I've recently gotten into making stuff for Gaslands. It's been a lot of fun and pretty challenging because the differs in scale from D&D. It's funny, I'm most proud of my square toothpick wooden palettes. I'd love to see your take on the game. I bet you'd come up with some amazing vehicles and terrain.

dude, you are awesome at making terrain, i hope i can one day be able to match your skill at this craft, im great at painting minis, but i have some troubles at making terrain projects looking real enough
This is a nice change of pace I have to say - let's be honest here, not a lot in either the RPG or the tabletop gaming (or video gaming industry if we're going to take it that far) takes place in jungles... That said, how about something even more novel, like sea terrain? Thalasso Hobbyer here on youtube makes some awesome water dioramas that I think can be used as both inspiration and to learn from.
hey, love your creation, and i wanted to share a trick with you if you want a better liquid effect it would be better to use 2-3 very fine coat of wood lacquer, you can get these in any warestore you can get them with a water base (wich require mixing) or simply get common one in spray can or ready to paint
Wow. I remember how exciting it was when the original pre-printed DM screen came out. It was pretty and printed instead of hand written and had a lovely Dragon on the front.
This is exactly what i need in my life right now! I've stumbled upon a really nice seraphon/lizardmen army and i love to build terrain. So this is right op my alley.
I'm a lazy painter too. But as you say we aim to impress other players and outsiders, not pros. When my friend saw the, in my opinion, amateurishly painted minis I had and was genuinely impressed. I knew I did it right.
I had to pinch myself when I saw the title of this video.. Epic Jungle Scatter Terrain - I have spent much of my 2 months in Lock-Down building Jungle terrain pieces for my Games Club. 100 palm trees and unnumbered amounts of plastic "Fish Tank" flora later I am nearly done, but I need to pass them on now to the Airbrush Guru at our club for that final step to unify them all and tone down the plastic green of the plants. Your piece looks fantastic I hope mine will look as good in the cold light of non-covid day - whenever that maybe :D
This is possibly, my favorite piece you've ever done.....complexity wise no....But there is just something about this that speaks to me. Great job my Dude
Cool idea. I enjoy watching it really has been inspiring. I noticed a small raft in the video. I recently made one that is pretty close looking for my game. The players thought it was a neat little addition and spent some time riding it down a river.

I actually like that a whole bunch and I think building with foam bricks is likely what got us here to begin with.
This came out looking epic! I love how the gold came out. It looks so real.
Looks awesome. Been thinking about the airbrush especially for terrain.
seal chipboard before working, make or buy gesso for it or glue and coat it both sides. Great work.
Bert from dark matter workshop sometimes paints on the resin and the effect is awesome without making the resin to thick. Great build
I loved the vibrant green plants. Wish to see more soon
Love it! The gold is actually looking better this way rather than clean and perfectly applied. It adds some randomness.
It's certainly a set-piece that would be used once as the centre of an adventure, but it'd still be a cool one in that role.
Love that you mentioned Sultai, because that’s exactly what it looked like to me.
I love this build, it looks fantastic. it is a great combination of d&d and old jungle movies. Thank you.
Thought about it, but a jungle fountain full of liquid gold isn’t much more versatile without the snake so I figured might as well tie it right in.
Good job.
That was amazing, dude! Mind blowing how good it came out! Vallejo water texture is a tricky beast to work with so it came out well!
Very cool, I'm usually not crazy about jungle terrain ( or their environments) in D&D this does look extremely awesome!
I'm definitely a fan of the green bricks. It immediately says jungle to me and would also to a pc that was teleported to the area.
In the campaign world I'm working on, magic is used like technology in a ww2-type conflict. And the best fuel is a liquified version of gold, rather than oil. Gold is a physics form of magic after all, that's why you need all those gold pieces to craft magic items. A fountain or derrick with liquid gold is absolutely perfect for that, great vid!
excellent center piece to go with your jungle tiles and ruins for a really cool adventure.
Can also see your plant creatures for encounters too
Love it! More jungle please! Perhaps a cool jungle outpost? 🤞🏼
I am going to try my hand in making a one shot around your fountain idea. Love the gold spewing snake. Will send it to you to share with your community if you want too.
I did have you saying 'A fountain in the jungle spewing liquid gold!' like the lyric from Welcome to the Jungle and don't regret it at all!
dude, you are awesome at making terrain, i hope i can one day be able to match your skill at this craft, im great at painting minis, but i have some troubles at making terrain projects looking real enough
I'm really impressed and inspired. Will absolutely use this gold and almost neon green colors in my terrain. Thanks for sharing.
Really awesome!!!... I always really like your stuff but something about this one is just extra awesome!! Great job!!!
Could maybe use the fountain for scatter in Frostgrave ghost archipelago, is jungle setting and one of the added warbands are Snake people
hey, love your creation, and i wanted to share a trick with you
if you want a better liquid effect it would be better to use 2-3 very fine coat of wood lacquer, you can get these in any warestore
you can get them with a water base (wich require mixing)
or simply get common one in spray can or ready to paint
Wow. I remember how exciting it was when the original pre-printed DM screen came out. It was pretty and printed instead of hand written and had a lovely Dragon on the front.
I've been on the fence about picking up an airbrush. A good paint job under 30 minutes is enough to make me reconsider.
As always.. totally impressive build. I like your style and creativeness.
Super cool build! I’d really like to see some underdark themed terrain next.
This is exactly what i need in my life right now! I've stumbled upon a really nice seraphon/lizardmen army and i love to build terrain. So this is right op my alley.
How that "Liquid Gold" comes perpetually out of the mouth of a statue raises some interesting questions but all in all I like it!
Awesome, I definitely like it. It looks like something from Thulsa Doom's garage sale so that's a bonus.
Watching your vids while deployed. Enjoy the ideas and am super excited to jump back in soon as I’m home!
Get home safe!
I'm a lazy painter too. But as you say we aim to impress other players and outsiders, not pros. When my friend saw the, in my opinion, amateurishly painted minis I had and was genuinely impressed. I knew I did it right.
I love the detail you put in all your projects.
Fountain of Youth meets El Dorado, sounds like a perfect quest for adventures in Chult lol
Cool idea. I enjoy watching it really has been inspiring. I noticed a small raft in the video. I recently made one that is pretty close looking for my game. The players thought it was a neat little addition and spent some time riding it down a river.
