    I think Eddie's tone started in his head and was then transfered to the freatboard through his hands. I mean he KNEW what tone he wanted to come out of his giutar. He had a clear vision. Great video as always, Cameron 😉

    Hey Cam, thanks for the info, excellent playing as always. I love the sounds you get both with the Yamaha and the Blackstar. Have you ever mucked around with plugins? Is the tactile thing (knobs and such) a big reason for you preferring physical units? Or is a tone/feel thing?

    • @CameronCooper
      @CameronCooper  8 місяців тому +1

      I've never used plugins because I've been happy with what I've got. Not a tonal preference or the need to have something physical. Plus my computer isn't the best so I thought, best not haha. In a way, the architect software is a plug in AMPED 3, except your sound is stored in the pedal itself.

    Hey Cam' ! Many thanks for sharing, this is indeed much appreciated, indeed answering a repetitive question you got and EQ tips (e.g. what it does mean to 'scoop' a tone, etc..) :P
    BTW, how do you output/sound in room: I believe we hear your guitar through PC (direct digital line out from Amped3?) but how do you hear yourself? pair of FRFR (on the PC then) ? the massive 4x12 behind you ? Is it affecting your tone ? Thanks again ! :)

    • @CameronCooper
      @CameronCooper  8 місяців тому

      Scooping is generally said when dialing back a part of the EQ usually the mid range. If you ever hear someone say 'scoop the mids' they're taking the mid range away so it favours the bass end of the EQ making the sound bigger.
      I'm monitoring myself through the Yamaha THR30II

    Cameron what practice tips do you recommend for improving alternate picking

    • @CameronCooper
      @CameronCooper  8 місяців тому +1

      If it's for building speed, practice at a speed that's on the edge of your ability. Hold the pick gently, pick lightly in the beginning. Remember tis more important to make sure your fretting hand is time with your picking hand. Too many people blame their picking when it's actually the fretting hand at fault. If you want to use a metronome by all means do. Practice rhythms, they're just as important for alternate picking if not moreso than lead.

    Been a long time since watching this kid, and clearly the “success” (whatever that means with a standard-less platform like UA-cam) has gone to his head. He had a good thing going as the kid with the cheap Yamaha practice amp, channel. Now he’s using click-bait-esq video titles. And, he’s completely forgotten a lot of what put EVH on the map, which were his rhythm playing (and tone), every bit as much as his tapping. Hopefully, he’ll come full circle to what made his channel special in the first place.

    • @CameronCooper
      @CameronCooper  Місяць тому +1

      I'm still the kid with the cheap Yamaha amp. I depend on it to run the whole recording process on my channel. Watch my rig rundown video for the info you need. By the way this channel grew partly because of those well titled videos featuring the Yamaha amps. Probably how you find me in the first place.
      What makes my channel special is teaching in my opinion, not necessarily gear reviews. As for success going to my head, you have no idea who I am. You don't know me at all. It's far too easy for punters like you to criticise than create anything. When I have an idea for a video, I do have to title it in such a way so that people do watch it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
      The whole point of this video was to try and share how to get a good sound out of the Blackstar AMPED 3 for Van Halen fans. I've been using the Blackstar AMPED 3 a lot more because it is more in line with what I want as a player since it was released a couple of years ago.
      Finally, regarding what put Van Halen on the map, clearly you didn't see this video. ua-cam.com/video/yxO2ZYLpsWQ/v-deo.html

I just found a setting I liked and got comfy. Just recently I started using another sound that I like that would make a good VH sound too but isn't as processed sounding as my favourite setting which was purposely designed to have a wet sound to it. Here in the states the modded domestically built options like Suhr or Metropolous are actually better and don’t cost more.

    Hi Cam. Been following you for a good long time and it is because of your advice I have a THR30ii. So the guitar goes into the Blackstar and out to the THR with the sound coming from the THR right? May I ask what THR settings you have it set to? You specified the cab on the Blackstar but it seems like I have to also specify a cab in the THR settings. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am considering getting one but just unsure right now. Thanks.

    • @CameronCooper
      @CameronCooper  8 місяців тому +2

      I using the THR on the FLAT setting which basically turns the THR30II into a DI box. No cab is selected for the FLAT setting. All the knobs on the EQ are set to 12'oclock. Apart from it being my recording interface, I use the THR30II for my basic effects, reverb, delay and chorus if I need them. I am using reverb in this video.

      Glad you can tell the difference between me and someone else. I like you said all this gear, my signal chain is 2 things, AMPED 3 and the Yamaha THR30II.

      @@CameronCooper I know I said all this gear. Lol. Of course that's not what I meant. I use the Yamaha THR10II and that's pretty much it. You turned me on to that too. I need to check out the AMPED 3.

    Are you using the Yamaha for anything other than interface?

    If you played through a pound shop amp you would sound good!

    If there's any people who really play a lot of Van Halen stuff, getting that sound is pretty easy. It's more about the way you pick and how hard you play the guitar. I can make my positive grid spark and EVH EL34 all sound just like Eddie on almost any form of gain setting with a decent mid-range. It's more in the playing than the amp although the amp can help

      Bang on! The bulk of his sound is in the playing. I see people online that have the exact set up he had from a particular period back in the day and still sound nothing like him
